I have a routine that exports data to HTML and works 99% of the time but now and again I get an error of Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list on this specific line of the code

Now sRetMessage is declared and passed as a string and contains approx 5 lines of text with <br /> for each VBNewLine.
What I did notice is on one of the errors I have caught, the last 3 characters on every line are =20 sRetMessage is extracted from a text file and so the contents are out of my control.
why i'm getting this error? If it is the =20 within the string, why should this matter as it has been stored and passed as a string value

I have a function that is getting passed a String and a DataRow.The String is a custom formatter. The idea is to do this
String.Format(passed_in_String, DataRow("ColumnINeed"))
The reason this is being done is at this point we have no idea what the column contains.However, if the formatter is "{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" and the DataRow("ColumnINeed") is an integer containing 42, String.Format is returning: MM/dd/yyyy In this situation I need it to throw an exception instead of returning nonsense.Is there anyway to make String.Format throw an exception if the object does not match what the format string is expecting?
I have a user that is receiving the following error: "Input string was not in the correct format"So I looked into the code and I can see why he is getting the error. The code is trying to execute this line:
_MyObject.LineBreaks = "0"
And the property looks like this:

Now, I immediately see that this old code is trying to set a string into an Integer and the old programmer was not using Option Strict, so he didn't notice this, BUT the problem has only happened one 1 user's PC. Running from the IDE works fine as well as installing the application other PCs. The code is executed every time the application runs, but yet only one person has reported the issue.Why would one PC baulk at this, but not the VS IDE or any other PC so far? Is there some system setting that determines how type conversion is handled? I need to get this user up and running.

View 8 RepliesSo I need a format string to pass to String.Format that would "move" the decimal point.I can't perform any math operations before doing the String.Format, so it has to work right off the bat.Basically I'm emulating a formatting string from a proprietary server. In it if I say:
"MR2"
for the value:
12345
The result is:
123.45
I'm close with this, but it's not spot on:
String.Format("{0:#0.##}", 12345)
an extra, but not necessary... there is also MR2Z, which moves the decimal 2 left, but if the value is 0 "" is returned.
I am having problems with the code below. I have copied and pasted the code from a program that I wrote to test and see if the code does work. In that program it does. I have a field that I display via: String.Format({0:c},amount) This produces the string "$28.28" However, when I try to convert back to a decimal amount, I get an incorrect format exception: amount = Decimal.Parse(amount.Text, NumberStyles.Currency) I also tried it with NumberStyles.AllowCurrencySymbol with the same results. I verified that the value in amount.Text is "$28.28". Am I missing something? Shouldn't these two operations use the same currency symbol and formats?

I have a application which gets info from an external feed where dates are in the format ddMMM. I'm trying to turn them into full date format so I was using DateTime.ParseExact. Which was correctly working out whether it should be 2011 or 2012 . But it is erroring when trying to parse 29FEB (which should be 29 Feb 2012. I can guess why its erroring. But if that correct behaviour is this documented and is there a better alternative? [code]

Error Message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL 2005 are supported VB.NET" I am using VB.NET 2008 and attempting to connect to SQL Server 2008 with XP as the operating system. I have service pack 1 installed in Visual Studio but this error message presists. The articles I have read on this error said to install sp1 as a solution but I have done that and the error persists. FYI, the error does not occur when I am using code to connect to SQL Server but when I attempt to connect using one of the designer wizards this error occure.

When looking at other posts with this error its obvious that each time it will be specific to the users' project. Therefore my main question is, is it possible to generate a more informative error message?
I am already in debug mode but it does not tell me in which string the problem lies. I am converting some strings to integers with "Cint" and have also tried the Integer.Parse() method to no avail.

My problem seems simple but I can't find an answer for it.I need to be able to pull a phone number (string) from an entire string. example: "My phone number is (xxx) xxx-xxxx, call me as soon as possible."
Its obvious to me that the phone number should be able to change depending on who you are talking too. So the question becomes, how do i search for the phone number's format within the above string?
I am using String.Format("{0:C2}", -1234)to format numbers.is always formats the amount to a positive number, while I want it to become $*-*1234
