VS 2005 How Many Times A String Appears In Another String
Jun 4, 2009codes like(x is variable)
dim k as string="5b5" & x & "85"
I want to know how many times "5" appears in k,
codes like(x is variable)
dim k as string="5b5" & x & "85"
I want to know how many times "5" appears in k,
How do I count the number of times that a string appears in another string. I know this code:
If odocument.ToString.Contains("window.alert") Then
pops = pops + 1
End If
But that will just see if the desired string contains "window.Alert" once, rather than how many times it does contain it.
How can I count the amount of times a character appears in a string?
The assignment is to create a program with 2 text boxes, label, and a button. We then need to type a phrase into the first text box, and a character in the second. Then click the button and then the label will display the output of how many times the character in the second text box appears in the first.
I have all the above setup except for how to display the amount of times the character appears in the first text box, here's a picture:
this is my first post in this forum! I guess my question is very simple. I just started with VB.net yesterday I want to search through a text string, and then count how many times a word appears. How do i do this? Is there some sort of function that i can use together with a loop of a kind?Something like the inStr(), just something i can use with mulitble appearences!
View 4 RepliesI am testing for a string if it contains at least n chars in consecutive order: I have this regex but it doesn't seems to work (w1){3,}
View 2 RepliesI know it sounds strange but let me it explain. It has a purpose, but really all I'm looking for is the item with the most duplicates.I know it's possible and I've had a few ideas already, though none were successful or practical.What I'm doing here that requires this is creating an intuitive search for clients in a database. You type in a single field and click search. Behind scenes each keyword broken down from the single input field is searched through the table of clients, hitting each column and returning matches. the results are large in numbers, but truly it's the client that appears the same number of times as there are keywords.
View 1 RepliesIn my DataGridView, there is a column for names of machines in the database and I want to count how many machines of each time I have. I have set aside 1 text box with 1 label for each time of machine and in the text box, I want to display how many machines of that type are in the DataGridView?For example, I have 50 records and 30 of those records use machine "80ER" while 12 use "90E" and 8 of them are "PM100". I'd like the 80ER text box to show 30, 90E text box to show 12, and PM100 text box to show 8.

i am having a bit of trouble getting a string to print a specific number of times. I am writing a do...loop or a For...next statement where it prints a string ("*") times the counter on the do...loop/for...next but can't quite get it to work.

I wanted to count the number of times letter A - E is in the input string.
I am trying to count the number of times a specific character is in a string. The problem is when I run the program the letter doesn't advance from "d" in the string "debugging" and doesn't display the number of time the character "g" is found.

My problem seems simple but I can't find an answer for it.I need to be able to pull a phone number (string) from an entire string. example: "My phone number is (xxx) xxx-xxxx, call me as soon as possible."
Its obvious to me that the phone number should be able to change depending on who you are talking too. So the question becomes, how do i search for the phone number's format within the above string?
Can I do anything more or less with IDictionary? How do these two collections differ?

I want the Function to accept List(Of String), Array & String and similarly return List(Of String), Array & String respectively. The Function simply adds a string (month) to the input collection. I just want to use it for string, array and list with needing to think of conversions.

I have a open and file save dialog which I use to open and save file. There are also some labels in the application. During the time a file is open or saved, the file open /save dialog becomes blurred by the background labels. Is there any way to prevent this? The attached pic is given as an example to explain the dilemma.

Suppose I have a string, if I want to basically write it multiple times, depending on some integer value. How I can do that?For example:
dim STR1 as string = "</li></ul>"
dim INT1 as integer = 4
dim STR2 as string = " "
I would like to see the output as
STR2 = "</li></ul></li></ul></li></ul></li></ul>";
Can I achieve it in VB.NET?

View 5 RepliesI'm looking for a way to cut out unneeded text from a string. The remains of the string should be "Result: Sucesfull".
Example strings:
[Download Report]
26 october 2009
Result: Succesfull

As you can see the string in my first example contains 3 lines, and the second example contains 5 lines. In my application they differ depending on the situation. I want to cut out all lines, except for the line starting with 'Result:', which I want to display to the user of the application.
I'm trying to convert a string containing XML data into a string containing an HTML table. Mostly I've got it working, except for empty XML elements. I'm trying the following code :my_string = my_string.Replace("<Value />", "<TD>no value specified</TD>")This isn't working. For some reason I can't fathom, the string "<Value />" isn't replaced. It stays exactly as it is.
View 2 RepliesI'm working on an application that will look through an XML file and match strings. However, some of the text in the XML that I'm searching is Cut with an *. I'm trying to search through model numbers, and say I'm searching "RGI6400GB", and the entry in the XML is "RGI6*". Is there any way to search if there's an * in the text and have it able to search like that? Some also have the ending of the model, like so; "*GB".

but string changes every request
I'm sure there are better ways to do this and i am open to suggestions. I'm not worried about speed i figured get it to work then i could improve it but my problem is mynewstr2 is not being set to the last value of mynewstr for some reason.(probably something silly im overlooking right now). at this point just converting the image to a string i can work with for my very basic ocr.

For a labels text I need to use the & symbol in the text, so I did this:
Const symbol As Char = Chr(38) and I am using like this:
Me.Label1.Text = "Welcome to A " & symbol & " R Storage Management Systems" I am looking for this because it is how the business name is spelled: A & R Storage
any other Char symbol I use in place of 38 will display the Char, but not the ampersand, it leaves a blank spot. Any advice. And yes I know the & is used to concatenate string variables, but I should be able to use it as a Char.
Basically I have a webresponse stream:dim lol as string = readstream.tostring there is a lot of information within the string but only one link starting with http: located near the end of the string - however there is no constant character point where I can start... (i.e. 38)
I want to extract the link from the string i.e. dog cat plane car [URL]..that is approximately how it looks above - words and url substituted I want to just extract [URL]..I had an idea of parsing the string from http: to the end Then after that splitting the string up again to remove the }], however it does not return anything
