Forms :: Checks If Certain Variables Have Been Flagged And If So Runs Relevent Code?

I've almost completed my first VB.Net app which is a rewrite of an old vba app I wrote.The last part that I need to write is the timed events part. What I have in VBA is quite straightforward.Every 500ms the Timer event runs through, it checks if certain variables have been flagged and if so runs the relevent code? Code is nothing major, just updates a networked device.I've looked into timers in .net but it seems like there are various routes that I can go down.

How to work a sub procedure. I'm trying to follow my instructors example, but I get a red box around my code in two places, with large red bullets on the left side of each. The program I'm trying to follow is underneath solid line.
First code that is flagged:

a simple question. Given the following code:

the first being a duplication of the second key, strangely obtained from a private field.
If you remove the WithEvents keyword, the pPerClass_PersistableClassID key is not created.
I am new to EF but it seems to me a strange behaviour.

I am creating a very simple game for a project. There is opportunity for bonus marks, and one thing I would like to do is be able to "save" the game. The only thing I need to do is save about 4 variables to be recalled the next time the program runs.
What is the best way to do this?
I have searched Google, and there are ways to link the program to an Access database, but that seams a little extreme. I tried seeing if you can make an XML file to hold them, but I can't really find any good information.

I am teaching myself VB, and when I try to run this program, I am getting "An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." If I was to declare the variables inside each event handler, the program runs, but why won't it run when I make the scope public? Seems repititous having to declare the variables in every event handler. [code]

I have a class that needs to check for errors in the data contained in a object.The routines that will check for errors could be implemented in concrete interfaces of supertype IErrorCheck. That way error checks can be discrete and added or removed from the class that requests the error checks.Each IErrorCheck implementation would be programmed against the supertype IErrorCheck (Strategy).But it would be nice not to recompile when checks are added or removed.Is there an accepted procedure for abstracting the error checks all the way out of the program, such as to read the checks from a file?

I would like to take blank secure stock paper and convert it in to a check.
I know you can get magnetic toner and print MICR.
The question is What is the actual font to use or should i get a package and send the data to it to print the check?
Has anybody done it successfully without having to resort to pre-printed checks.

I am a new member that has just start coding. Im currently working on a small application for a desktop that will give me information from my system. I have code that works but might not be great. I have code that checks that the network is connected but need it to keep checking and updating. I Have tryed loops, goto and timers but not having any luck. I am developing an application that automatically checks player numbers in the Irish Lottery.
The code below checks each players 3 numbers against the six drawn numbers and reports on matching numbers and winnings. Each players information is stored in a specialised.string.collection in my.settings as shown below

The following checks the numbers but only the first item in the collection is being displayed in the multiine textbox.

I've got a vb.net 2005 form that calls a stored proc to load a combobox with eligible sales reps. There are approximately 40k sales reps available...I know that's a lot, but that's what I'm dealing with. I'm trying to figure out why it's taking this form 15 seconds to load.

Want to load this in the most efficient way possible given the HUGE amount of data that my client is wanting to see.

I am using Microsoft visual basic 2010. I am using the following code to connect to a local access database. After the line myReader = cmd.ExecuteReader () no code runs. I am not receiving an error message.

I have used this method to connect to the same database multiple times in the same program without a problem I've also tried using OleDb with the same result.

I have made my own installer over the last 6-9 months.Let me explain how it works.It's designed for monetization.We have a hook product and 3 to 4 additional pieces of software that we offer the user.When an offer is accepted our installer pings a website(PHP) that is linked to a mysql database. It makes a value increase by one when pinged.This represents how many accepts for offer A we have.For some reason we are getting flagged by some AVs and it is because of the http web requests to these reporting urls.

I'm having an issue with the startup of my build app with vb2010.Let me explain what the situation is at the moment.
I have a form and a splashscreen. I use the application events (startup event) to check if there is a network connection, if so the splashscreen will run and it will check if the database is available, if this is the case, it will copy the online database to the local ms access database.If the startup check of the network is false, it the user gets a message that there isn't any network available and the program will try to run normal, then when the user clicks the ok button of that message, it will check if the local database has any records. If so the splashscreen will run and the program starts normal (without copy the database, because there isn't any network available).The issue that I am having is, that when there isn't a network connection and the local database is empty, (I do get the message that the local database is empty), but the program still runs, while it should exit.Here is the code of the application event:

Having recently installed IIS Express I was hoping that it was going to make life easier for me, but I've run into a problem almost straight away.Consider the following which is representative of some live code:

Running the code under the ASP.NET Web Server (Cassini) everything is fine and I can see that Thread.CurrentPrincipal is of type MyCustomAuthentication.Principal.MyPrincipal.Running under IIS Express this same line throws an InvalidCastException and checking the type I find it is now of System.Security.Principal.GenericPrincipal which is confusing as nothing else has changed.I can confirm that MyCustomAuthentication.Principal.MyPrincipal implements IPrincipal and remember this is Live code, it is currently deployed and working.

i wrote a piece of code to write some data to a card reader, and read back from that device, filling a form with the data (after reformat).When I step through the code while debugging (using F5, F8 for stepping forward) the form is filled correctly.However, when I run the code (Ctrl-F5), the program seems to hang for about 5 sec and then throws an exception: 'Length should be >0' When looking further during debug - it seems that the program calls 2x the Sub Frm_Read_Display(). I once heard about a software that could dynamically run dotnet instructions (C#, if I remember well) on its command line, e.g when entering 1==1, the output would be true.I don't remember the name of this soft, and sometimes one just wants to know the result of a given instruction, without having to create a new program, compiling it and run it...
I would happily take the challenge to make a soft like this on my own later, but for now on I'd just like to find this soft.Does anyone know its name, or another app which would achieve the same result? (Don't tell me PowerShell, I'm searching for something more handy.
EDIT For those who use Visual Studio and who didn't know (I just learnt about it), you can also use the Immediate Window. It even allows you to get intellisense in some cases.

I'm creating some buttons in Word 2007 that I want to use in my company application to make our teams life easier. The application is a server application but when it loads it goes through our internet explorer.If I could reveal the source code then I could get the ElementbyID to hook up the button to the text field in the application.When the application loads I can quickly right click on view the source code and it is written in C#.This is one of the id's i was able to grab

I've noticed something in vb that is rather disconcerting, and now i'm trying to find if there is a way around id. Given the nature of enumerated types, they are more or less substitutes for named values, usually grouped in some sensible manner for readability as well as other things. Now, .Net added the FlagsAttribute() for affecting a Enumerated type so that it can reference multiple values (bit flags) for additional support. (Basically it is easier to say If MyEnum And MyFlag as opposed to if MyNum and 65536) However, sometimes we just want to cycle through our enumerated values For x = 0 to N Next I've noticed that with Enumerated types, it is ever so annoying in two folds:
A) Dim X as MyEnumType = 8 '<- Causes a Type Error : Cannot implicitly convert Integer to MyEnumType
B)
For X as MyEnum = MyEnum.Lowest to MyEnum.Highest

However, as per usual, VB cheats, and performs the latter (violating VB's own Strict Typing rules) and thus if I have 8 enumerated values, each representing a Bit value from 1 to 256, How can I smoothly (with not extraneous executions) run the loop from lowest to highest. (now of course this is bitwise, so i could do a while loop with a << operator, but let us just assume we don't know the values of all the Enumerated elements, we just know they aren't sequential (+1)). I want a loop that ONLY executes the ACTUAL elements of an enumerated type, nothing in between their intrinsic values.

When I run or debug the code, it asks for the First Number and then just completes the running of the program without asking for the second number and uses some random number. The console.readline() doesn't work either, the console window just disappears.

I was wondering if there is any way to make a sub run when another bit of code has run like doing a handles event bit.The reason I want to know is that I have made a custom message box and would like to effectively create a shortcut by whereby when the string CusMsg (my chosen variable for the message box message) appears in the code and runs, it makes form3 (custom message box form) open and label 1 on that form is the writing the of the message.

I seem to be running into an issue. This may seem like a noob question (which it really is, I only have experience in vb6 from years ago) but what Im trying to do is pass a variable from one form to another. Ive tried telling the first form to set the value of the variable on the second form like so frmsecond.variable = "value" but that does not work. Ive tried placing a public variable in a module to do it, but again, no luck. The only way seem to be able to get it to work is the second form setting the variable by reading the value from the first form like so [code]The problem I have with that code is what if for some reason the selected line gets changed as the form is loading or something to that nature. It doesnt seem very secure.

i am writing an application that will require users to provide login details. After the user has logd in a second form will be shown. Allowing the user to change his/her own details. What i have a problem is, im not able to pass the variables, containing username and password in the login form to the second form. Ive tried declaring the variables as Public but when the login form closes the variable are reset to zero.

I have some vb.net code which should print out labels using Teklynx LabelView software (which I've had working before.)Problem is, it runs fine on Dev machine, but when I run it on the end user's PC, I don't get any error messages until it completely dies with the "Send error report to Microsoft" message.
