This is the first time i am using ToolSTrip in VB.NET. I have set some navigation buttons like First, Prev, Next and Last. i have set Image property in buttons. but at runtime these buttons are not visible, i can not see any button, even if i set Display Style property to ImageandText, the Image is not displayed but text is visible.
View 1 RepliesI am relatively new to C# and winforms, although I have been using Java for years, so forgive me if im asking something relatively straightforward!I have a DataGridView, it needs to update regularly so I wish to provide a Collection of objects as its DataSource and NOT a database table.So far I have a List<MyObject> which will be constantly updated via a BackgroundWorker thread. I want my DataGridView to update when a change has been made to the List i.e. if the objects are resorted, added to or deleted from etc.Currently my DataGridView only displays the first object I add to the List, if I add more the DataGridView doesn't update to display the new objects added.This is a basic overview of how im coding it:
private List<MyObject> myList= new List<MyObject>();
myDataGridView.DataSource = myList;
Then my BackgroundWorker thread updates the list, e.g.

I have been playing with VB6 for quite a few years now and I can normally get by ok on my own.I finally made the move to VB.net, but I am totally lost.I have started writing a program that is basically a planner. It helps the user organize and plan activities with a client.I have created the ui and have added a BindingNavigator and it happily pulls in the records from my Access database which I can cycle through.What I would like it to be able to do is, allow the user to see all the current records (maybe in a flexgrid), select which record he/she would like to view, then the entire record is populated into the ui.I would have no problem in vb6 of course...but I could do with a little help in vb.net (2008).My main problem is I think is, once the flexgrid is populated, how to create the event that allows the user to view and update that record once in the ui.

I added to images (.png) to my resource folder. When I am coding, only the first image is showing in the intellisense.
Example:
PictureBox1.Image = My.Resource.Picture1
I cannot get it to show me: My.Resources.Picture2 even though picture2 is in the resource folder.
I am working on the old hangman game. I am up to a part were I have to use a sort button to alphabetically sort the letters already guessed that are showing in the list.
I have found this code:
Array.Sort(strLettersGuessed)
lblGuessed.Text = ""
For i = 0 To strLettersGuessed.Length - 1
lblGuessed.Text = lblGuessed.Text + strLettersGuessed(i) + ", "
[Code] .....
The problem I am having is where the flow chart asks us "is the letter at counter < the letter at counter -1? In my above code I am trying to answer this with this line:
If intCounter < strLettersGuessed.Length - 1 Then
I have tried about 50 different things in place of intCounter as well as strLettersGuessed.Length -1 and nothing seems to work. Sometimes I get an error stating can't be infinite, etc or I get no error at all but the sort button doesn't work.
I have an application with a few forms. The main form, and 2 others. When I click a button on the main form, one of the others display "attached". When I move the main form or one of the other forms around the 'attached" forms follow. The problem is that sometimes if you have another application on top of one of the forms, and click the other form, both forms dont come to the front. How can I make that happen? I've already tried things like on bringtofront for all the forms but I also don't want to take focus away and if I do that it ends up in a loop of grabbing focus via activation.

I want to display the exact information into the list box of my program instantly when it is displayed in the command prompt not after whole process is completed.
As in the ping google.com -t, I want to display the each reply message instantly in the list box.

I have developed a win form application using vb.net 2.0, mistakenly my vbproj file deleted. Now the issue is that when i open the solution in the design view all my forms ( 170 + ) shown blank. but when i run the application all the controls are properly displayed and application is running fine. Issue is why all forms are shown BLANK in design view , as i cant make any changes to the design now.
View 8 RepliesI have been going a couple of directions as I learn and try to figure out more. Basically, I have a form that has a tab control that contains 6 tabs and tons of controls on each tab. They are like Orders, Invoice, Customer Info, Quotes... What I would ultimately like to do is have individual forms that fit into the tab with a parent/child relationship as well as be able to not use them in a parent/child type of relationship so that they can be used as stand alone forms.
I have done something like this, but the form moves around. I would like to lock it into the top left so that everything lines up.
Dim frm As New Form2
frm.Show()
SetParent(frm.Handle, tab1.Handle)
I also have to pass values from sibling to sibling, but I think that I can handle that if I can come up with a good format.
So overall, I would to have forms that could be in a tab or just displayed as a child not in the tab.
I'm storing images in a List Of Image. When I want to clear/remove all the images it contains should I dispose & set each item to nothing before using .Clear? Or can you just call .Clear? I'm doing it like this for now...
' remove all images in list of image named "images".
For i As Integer = 0 to images.Count - 1
images(i).Dispose()
images(i) = Nothing
Next
images.Clear()

View 2 RepliesI have a project with several forms. I need some of them to be in a modal window. How do you set this to be true? Also, when some of the forms are shown I need one of the buttons on the previous screen to be active.
I have tried:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Form.ShowDialog()
Button.Select()
End Sub
I need to execute some code after the form is loaded and shown on the screen, how can I do that?
View 2 RepliesIf I have a large number of classes, each similar to the other in certain aspects (they all share a common base class, but each does things differently), and I need to create Windows forms for each to allow easy changing of their values through a GUI? Create one matching form for each object in VS' forms designer, Or Use code to create the forms dynamically at runtime.
#2 makes the most sense to me, because a lot of these objects will share very common features of the form, notably "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons. But one object might need to draw a textbox on the form while another might need to draw a combobox. Not to mention, if I want to put icons on the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons, I'd have to do this for each copy of the form in designer, and that sounds like it could get out of hand quickly.But is drawing forms through code sane? VS' forms designer is pretty sophisticated and designed to make life easier. Am I wise to consider ignoring its functionality and diving into the trench warfare of forms design through code? Or are there examples of automating form creation based on an existing object's properties?
Does anyone know if it is possible to resize an imagelist/listview image without repopulating the image list? I am using scroll bar to change the image size from 25 point to 256 point. When I leave the scroll bar the imagelist repopulates from the files list. This can be very slow when working with high resolution pictures. I don't want to limit the image size to 2 sizes by using large and small imagelist.
View 1 RepliesI have got two image folders namely a and b which consist of images of products. All images are save as there productid. how can can i find the images from a folder by passing there productid and save the images in a list.Dim AllImages As New List(Of String)
After saving it , how can i render those images one by one into string builder like
Dim imagecontainer As New StringBuilder
For Each image In AllImages
imagecontainer.Append("<img src="image" alt="" />") Next image
aside from the difference mentioned below, what are other difference the two events might have and how will affect the application as a whole? What is more preferred to use and why?

I am loading a series of JPG images into an image list then using that to fill a list view. My program is using ALOT of memory by doing this. What would be the easiest way to add the images but take up less memory/time?
View 3 RepliesI've been searching for hours tonight searching existing posts, other websites and all i can find are examples of how to capture a image from a webcam.Does anyone have any code that simple talks to the camera device via WIA, and then saves every image found on the device to a hard drive?I found this code below. Credit i cant tell you as i have a bunch of different flavors of code, but this only saves the file as a tmp file, and not the actual image file i expected after selecting?

I currently have a list of words in a text file sorted in to alphabetical order and put into lower case, but I would like to be able to also display the line numbers on which these words are associated with.. but only one instance of.
For example,
"This is a random text
file that I
have just made
up this second"
[Code].....
As you can see above, I would like to show that "this" for example appears on line 1 and 4. Hopefully tabbed so that it keeps a nice look to it.
I'm having a bit of a 'brain doner' moment here
I have a list of Objects. Each of these Objects contains a list of other Objects (pseudo code) :-
Private Structure Object1
dim Name as string
dim ListOfObject2 as List(Of Object2)
[Code]....
I need to sort the list of Object1 by the Value in Object2. I have a comparison class which sorts Object2 by its Value nicely.
