So I am nearning completion of my 7th major project And I need the application to load files into ram when the application starts..Almost like a splash screen but with a loading bar.I have to load over 90 JPG's And I would like to have them in RAM so the application isn't so slow at first IE System.Load(My.Resources.JPG1) And LoadingBar1.Value += 10 Etc, etc.I have a Form I have created as a splash screen..I need it to load all the JPGs before starting the application..
Can i make from this image to make it Loading Screen I mean i put this in Form1 [URL] And i want when the program start the progressbar (the white line to load)
Is it possible to make custom buttons for the forms? I know i can add imaging to the button controls, but if is it possible to really customize the buttons so they look different, like designs instead of blocks?
I have an application, when the user clicks on a button it will open the 'view form', which loads data from a database into a listview. This takes a while if there is alot of data in the database table. How do i create a loading screen (asuming i need to make a new form as the loading screen) which appears while the application is loading the data into the listview. And once the process is finish, the loading screen will close and the 'view form' opens.
I have this application that fetches huge chunks of data from databases and i would like to have a loading screen, or simple image (gif) appearing on top while the app is working... but what normally happens is the whole application locks up. How can I make a certain part of my application still responsive while the rest loads?
When i try to view MDIParent screen in designer mode I'm getting below exception...
`Could not find endpoint element with name 'NetTcpBinding_IMyService' and contract 'ClientProxy.IMyService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this name could be found in the client element.'
Little background to understand my question more clearly...
I've a WCF server which I'm trying to consume in my Winform application. So i've created a separate class library in which i added service reference and created a proxy. I've copied the client endpoint info from app.config in class library to UI app.config file.
When i run the application everything is working fine but when i try to open MDIParent screen in designer mode its throwing above exception.
Note: I think i'm getting error because i'm trying to create a proxy object on NEW method (form constractor) if i comment that line - i'm able to view designer screen.
I wanted to make a screen recorder (not screen capture) program, but I am not entirely sure how to get it started. I have seen many videos and things on how to make one, but all of these just take multiple pictures and then don't compile them into a movie file, and I don't want to take many pictures (unless that is the only way possible.) I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I have looked at the Windows Media Encoder, but I can't seem to figure out how to use/implement it (yes, I have downloaded and installed it.) Maybe I can use some kind of ActiveX control?
I have a few combo boxes that need to be loaded up once and displayed multiple times (whenever the main form is opened) The reason for this is because it's taking about 10 seconds for the form to load each time it's opened due to unnecessary re-querying. Here is an example of what I have as a combobox source and what I've done. I've put the query, connection, etc... in a module and call it on the login form - I don't get any errors but the data does not load into the combos.
'In Module sql = "SELECT DIR_ID, DIR_NM FROM LTC_FBS_DIR ORDER BY DIR_NM ASC" RConStr = String.Format(RConStrFormat, LoginForm.txtUser.Text, LoginForm.txtPass.Text) 'using instead of dim connemp Dim connemp4 As System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection = New System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection(RConStr) [Code] .....
I am having a problem, which I did not have until recenty, adding personal macro buttons to the Quick Access Toolbar using Excel's Customize function. The macros, which I know are, enabled and executable, cannot be assigned to new buttons on the QAT. Actually, I can add macro buttons to a new workbook fine, but when I close, reopen the workbook, and try to add another personal macro button, they all disappear.
I set 'Show Add-in User Interface Errors' in the Advanced tab of Excel Options and get this error when I open a workbook with personal macro buttons added to the QAT[code]...
I deleted the macros and manually keyed some simple command (msgbox 1) into a new macro and still got this error message.
I set 'Show Add-In User Interface Errors' on a remote server (where I do not have this problem) and I do not get this error message when loading workbooks with customized QAT.
I have alot of forms here who need 10 or more seconds to load when the method InitializeComponent() starts to run. It have a lot of pics for that is too slow to load. I need to do a loading screen to show while the initializeComponent() components is running.
i am trying to create a password system for my excel document which allows different users to change different things but i dont know how to make it so the login screen comes up first and dosnt allow you to do anything else.
Im trying make my application display my splash screen for 5secs before loading my main form. I have read lots of threads on this and they all seem to point to the following:Add the following code to the New() sub of the splashscreen.
I have also seen a suggestion to add the following code to the OnInitilalize event in the ApplicationsEvents file.
Me.MinimumSplashScreenDisplayTime = 5000
I've have tried both ways, and although it successfully makes my splashscreen wait 5 seconds before closing, it doesnt prevent the Main form from waiting for the splashscreen to close before loading. The mainform simply loads over the top of the splashscreen. This thread is exactly what im after but i cant seem to get mine to work.

I have application framework enabled. I have my startup form set to my main form, and i have set my splashscreen in the application tab of my project properties. Im using VS2008.I also noticed that when i clicked on the "View Application Events" button in the application tab of my project properties, the file was blank. I have seen that some other people have had problems with this. I just cut and paste the following code into my ApplicationEvents file. Potentially an issue??? Any reason why the code was not auto-generated to begin with?
Namespace My ' The following events are availble for MyApplication: ' ' Startup: Raised when the application starts, before the startup form is created.
I'm loading custom listboxitems in to a listbox. But the problem is that i load over 300 items and it takes a while and the program stops responding.I've tried to load the items in a backgroundworker, but i didn't help.

I am having trouble trying to get NAnt to compile my project, which consists of a windows forms application, a utilities library (DLL) and a data classes library (DLL). The problem is that I can't get the main WinEXE application to reference the data classes library, which gets compiled as the second step, before the app is compiled.
In my program, there is an option for a custom size object. I want the user to be able to click on the upper-left corner and then click in the lower-right corner and save the location as integers. How can I do this?
i'm working on a project right now and I need to create a graphic library. The game I'm experimenting with is an RPG; this project is expected to contain many big graphic files to use and I would prefer not to load everything into memory at once, like I've done before with other smaller projects. So, does anyone have experience with libraries such as this one? Here's what I've came up with:
Have graphic library files and paths in an XML file Each entry in the XML file would be designated "PERMANENT" or "TEMPORARY", with perm. being that once loaded it stays in memory and won't be cleared (like menu-graphics)The library that the XML file loads into would have a CLEAR command, that clears out all non-PERMANENT graphics I have experience throwing everything into memory at startup, and with running the program running with the assumption that all necessary graphics are currently in memory.
I would like to create my own custom login screen for windows xp, so instead of typing my password, just put my finger on a fingerprinter sensor and my app will read the fingerprint and see how it is, then make the login itself.
I created a bitmap, that is supposed to be displayed on the screen, in the middle. It will have to be on top of EVERYTHING!! Even if a full screen application is running, I want it to show. My questions are: Is it possible to even display a CUSTOM MADE bitmap on the screen?
Option Strict Off Imports System.Drawing.Drawing2D Imports System.IO[code]....
I want to rewrite logonui.exe completely. I want to add features that I just can't in ResHacker. Problem is I have no idea where to start. Well my idea is for it to be more visually appealing and faster. Almost like a dock with the user pics fading away as they are further away from the centre and having them zoom in and out aswell as move toward the centre when the mouse enters.
I have a WinForms app with SQL05 backend. It has a standard Login window where users are required to supply a username/password. This is validated using my own code and sprocs. Now one of my big clients has scared the bejezus out of me by saying, "Hey Chris, I want you to change your app in line with all our other IT systems so that users can use their common username and passwords with authentication against LDAP". Having had a moment to reflect, I have some questions (some very noob in nature!)
1. Is this requirement a big deal? :) Or straightforward to implement?
2. Does this mean that when user's double-click my app icon on the desktop, the authentication automagically happens without the need for a Login screen?
3. How on earth can I test this. My dev environment does not use AD, but I do have SBS2003
4. Can anyone point me to good resources about this on the web?
I am designing a yahtzee game in Visual Basic. I am wanting to save the form's background color and the picture boxes dice so they can be set the next time the form is loaded. The user can change the background color of the form and choose between several sets of dice. I want the last color the form's background color was and the picture of the last set of dice used placed back in the picture boxes of the dice the next time the user opens the Yahtzee game. I am trying to do this in a module, with generic collections of all the picture boxes on the form. Am I able to do this before the form loads?
