GUI - User Interface For Capturing Data Into A Budget Database
Mar 12, 2010
I want to do a user interface for capturing data into a budget database but ran into a problem. Budget items are captured one line at a time. For example, say a Company wants to prepare budget for 2010, the entry may look like this;
I am designing a database using access 2010 and I ve been asked to design the user interface with Visual basic.I actually have designed tables and their relationship and did some queries according to the requirements. how do I create user interface in VB from this point knowing I don't have any form and report designed in access?
Write code or use tableadaptors, bindingsources, dataset, etc.? I have experience with the older ways i.e. connection strings, ado code, sql, etc. but was hoping the newer tools in vs would make the user interface easier and more flexible. So far i have been disappointed. Am I wrong and I am missing something? Am I alone in this opinion or ? What is your past experience in VB and have you found vb.net to be a step forward in db user interface design? if your answer is yes then what is the easiest way to put a table record count into a text box? should i bypass all the new stuff/objects ( adaptors, binding sources, navigators, designers, etc) and just write code or what?
in my form..there's a couple of textboxes..these textboxes display data from the database using databinding method...my problem is when i click on my delete button to delete the data displayed in those textboxes...the data will be gone from the textboxes...but when i check my database..the data is still there.....how do i solve the delete button problme???...i want the data to be delete from the textboxes AS WELL AS from the database.
here's my delete button code
Private Sub btnDelete_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnDelete.Click Dim intresult As Integer Try
I'm working on a design project where I have to use a Graphical User Interface that contains a drag and drop form. It consists of having a window dropped on a wall. Both of them are images to scale. I would like to know what kind of code I would have to use to show the x and y coordinates of one of the points of my window when dragged so when I drop it, I'm dropping in it on the desired coordinate of the wall.
today I successfully configured an interface to work with a test database I created in MS Access 2003. The database consists of only 8 records with 10 fields.
I used the basic built-ins with VB 2010 to build the interface in a simple form which shows only 6 of the 10 fields. It all seems to work well, that is the connection string built correctly, and I can run the program and view the individual records. My trouble is that when it goes to the 1st record it's actually the 3rd record in the database. And when I go to the last record it's actually the 2nd record in the database and the next to the last record is actually the first record in the database.
why the program seems to start at the 3 record and shifts the first two records to the end. All the records show up, it's just that they are somewhat out of order.
I'm designing a PC-based app that has a little local database. I'm using VB.NET with SQL Server Compact Edition. The user will only ever have access to one database file, because it's all about storing a user specific data. However I'm thinking of the situation where there could be multiple users that access the PC, each with their own Windows account. So ideally I'd need separate database files for each User.
I'm not sure how to implement this. I was hoping to deploy the 'empty' database as a ClickOnce deployment, but I can't see how I can have a database per user doing this. Also I'm not sure where to store the database files anyway. perhaps in MyDocuments for each user? Or perhaps I need to stick to just one database, but add a 'User' column into every table, so it can hold data for every user. I didn't want to do this though - because I wanted to keep the nice separation between the data offered by physically separate files.
Im trying to capture the result of a combo box and time/date stamp this to mysql. I have a working connection between the form and the db able can anyone tell me how to achieve this?
I am looking for the best way to capture and validate US & international personal data. I have to use ASP.NET 2.0 (vb.net) and no 3rd party web services. This are all client restrictions.
The main point of this is I have to toss their data to FedEx for a shipping quote. I think FedEx has a address checker but that web service was not approved in the scope of the project and its too late to get it added.
My current solution is to just let the field be required and free form then before I save their profile check to see if FedEx will return a quote. If it fails then I will ask them to recheck their profile or contact the admin.
I have created an application with 3 terminal windows for capturing data from 3 serial ports and outputting the data to a file. It seems to work well with one serial port, but when I fire all 3 serial ports at once, the application hangs. Here is the portion of the code that I believe is the problem. The code below is for Serial Port A. I have the same code for Serial Port B and Serial Port C
Private Sub ASerialPort_OnComm() Handles ASerialPort.OnComm ReceiveBufferA.Append(ASerialPort.InputString) Me.BeginInvoke(New EventHandler(AddressOf ReceivedTextA))
I'm displaying data from a database in a datagridview, but the player also needs to be able to add new rows, which isn't allowed because the datagridview is data-bound. What is the simplest workaround to this problem?
I'm working on a project. Part of the project needs me to capture data, for example, email address, from certain rows/columns of a datagridview and displays them in a textbox on another windows form(form1.vb) with a click of a button(Add Contact button). I am familiar with doing these in web form but windows form are different and i am not familiar with it.
I am trying to write codes for new user to fill in the form, then the new data will add into my database. Below are my codes: Imports System.Data.OleDb Public Class NewUser Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load End Sub [Code] ..... There is no error encountered, however, the adding is failed and no new data can be add in.
I have a form with 5 fields(inputs). When I entered data in the form and click submit, the data is entered into an Access 2007 Database(Table). All the set up (connection) is working because the data table is getting populated with the user info. However, I also need to search the database by entering a name in the name text box and clicking a button.
This is suppose to populated all the fields with information from the data base if the user exist. The search part is not working. I have no more hair to pull. :) Here is the code:
I am trying to essentially allow the user to merge data from a database onto a document and print it. I am new to working with the PrintDocument, but I believe this would be the way to accomplish this. I know how to print the text onto the PrintDocument at a certain position, but what I am trying to figure out is how to deal with the coordinates of the text I am drawing on the PrintDocument. Ideally, I would love to click on the PrintDocument in a PrintPreviewControl and capture the coordinates of the PrintDocument.
I have an interface class (IUser) which is the interface of class User. Now, i want to put these into an IList but am confused as to how i should declare the IList:Dim userList As IList(Of IUser) = New List(Of IUser) Dim userList As IList(Of User) = New List(Of User) Dim userList As IList(Of IUser) = New List(Of User) Dim userList As IList(Of User) = New List(Of IUser) when instantiating should you always use its implementation; and when using it as a type use its interface?
And when im creating a new user should i use: Dim myUser as IUser = new User?
I'm learning how to use visual basic and come from a background in Java. In Java I use the swing class to build my interface and code all of it. Is there a way to do this with visual basic, or is the designer the only way to create an interface?
I want input from user and when he click on view report button report should come in report viewer. May be my design is not good but my aspect is to design a user interface so that user should able to pass parameter in all the ways and get desired report.

I'm making a VB.net program via a text file and I'm compiling it using vbc.exe via command line. I'm trying to get just a simple program to run in the background of my computer. Problem is, it displays the annoying console window. How do I get nothing to show? No form, no console?
How can I customize the user interface in Visual Basic .NET and is there stuff you cant do in Vb.net that you can in higherj level languages usch as Java and C and C++?
i want the user interface to be kinda similar to the jQuery UI. This means themed buttons and windows(preferabely the ones form jQuery UI) Also, i'm looking for nice sliding and morphing windows.
I am using Visual Basic 2005 for an Operator Interface in an industrial setting. Where should I be looking to help make my Operator Interface even more eye pleasing and practical?
i have few questions about the user interface when working with a VS setup project
1. i have added a Checkboxes dialog, i have 3 checkboxes they are used to select upon 3 tools to be installed, so during the progress of the instilation, how should i let the project know which of the 3 tools was selected ? (i hope i was clear)
2. a bit of silly question - is it possible to edit something in a dialog ? like in my case in the "finished" dialog my customer didnt like the the end button is named "close" and he wants it to be named "Finish"
finally, this is an extra non programing but it would be good if i was able to find an answere :P, when i plug a USB in the computer it opens the autoplay, and i have my instilation file in the USB (it will be distributed on a USB rather than a CD), so i want to add to the autoplay a button that runs the instilation file
I'm writing a program in which I'll receive data using serial port using Comport.DataReceived event which I've written in seperate class. Once I receive data from my comport I need to display that data in my listbox in the form. What is the best way to do this?? I don have much knowledge on using delegates. An
I would like to make an application where there is no form, only controls, this way theuser can see what they are doing on top of their work. How could I for instance put a textbox on the screen, just like form1, but without it being a parent of form1, almost as if it was form1. Basically form1 is hidden.
