Catch Error While Inserting Data With SqlDataSource
Oct 30, 2011I have a SqlDataSource and a GridView.
What I want to do is, while the query is executed (i.e. for inserting a data), then after the data has inserted successfully, it should appear a message sounds: "The data deleted successfully". I've solved it by using GridView1_RowDeleted method.
Now the problem is, I want to catch the error while the query is failed to executed. If the query has failed to execute, then it should appear a message: "The data failed to insert."

Mar 25, 2011I have a program in VB.Net that receives mails from Outlook, extracts attachments and inserts the attachments into a table through a query. I would like to put the query/queries in a Try/Catch block, but cannot do so as Outlook exceptions cannot be caught, and it gives me an error, and unless I put a very specific exception, I cannot catch it. Is there a workaround?

Exception is underlined and when I hover on it, it says: "Catch cannot catch type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Exception' because it is not in 'System.Exception' or a class that inherits from 'System.Exception'". This is affecting all my other code which I'd like to put into a Try/Catch block.

I found the code on this forum, I think.The procedure works fine, but I can't use error handling with it.I call the procedure from a button click event. Apr 4, 2010My application needs to be able to be pointed at different SQL Servers and different databases and I would like to provide the end user with a nice method of selecting both the server and database (the app is for use by other IT staff).Ideally, I was thinking of allowing them to browse to the server (with possibly entering credentials or even better, using their Windows credentials as the databases in question should be accessible to the relevant people via their AD account), and then listing the databases on that server allowing them to select one to use.
I would like them to then be able to easily change the server and database whenever necessary.I imagine I would then need to build the connection strings based on what they select but at the moment I have got rather stuck in just trying to create a form with some kind of Server Browser (I've not got as far as a database browser!).Failing some kind of server/database browser options, I would change to some simple text boxes where the user can enter the name of the server and database directly with some kind of connection verification button.
Finally, is it easy to connect to multiple databases on the same SQL Server at the same time? Is it just a case of creating and referencing multiple connection strings?I am using VB 2008 Professional and SQL Server 2005 Standard.

User Data - SQLCE Files - One Database With Multiple User On PC
Mar 3, 2010I'm designing a PC-based app that has a little local database. I'm using VB.NET with SQL Server Compact Edition. The user will only ever have access to one database file, because it's all about storing a user specific data. However I'm thinking of the situation where there could be multiple users that access the PC, each with their own Windows account. So ideally I'd need separate database files for each User.
I'm not sure how to implement this. I was hoping to deploy the 'empty' database as a ClickOnce deployment, but I can't see how I can have a database per user doing this. Also I'm not sure where to store the database files anyway. perhaps in MyDocuments for each user? Or perhaps I need to stick to just one database, but add a 'User' column into every table, so it can hold data for every user. I didn't want to do this though - because I wanted to keep the nice separation between the data offered by physically separate files.

This is to ensure that the user enters the correct city spelling, in order to receive an accurate quote. Currently, there are about 150K cities that are being loaded to the dropdown listbox on page load. It takes about 30-40 seconds for that page to load. My initial thought was to allow the user to select the state first. Then load the city values. But the user has the option of going back and requesting a quote for a different city / state.

Nov 30, 2010I am using VB 2008 Express to connect to an Access 2007 database. I have a combo box that is populated by the database. When I used the Access report VBA, I used the AfterUpdate() event to calculate a sum and place the results in a text box. I need to know how to do the same operation in VB 2008 Express using the SelectedIndexChanged event of the combo box.
The combo box is called "cboYearMonth" and is populated by my database, this is working correctly.
The text box that I want the calculated results to appear in is called "ExactPagesTextbox"

Basically I can't figure out how to get the try/catch to work with text boxes and input from the user and whatnot.I've tried setting the textbox.text property = "" but that has no use, I've been trying to find something on Google about it but I cannot seem to find a single thing about textbox try/catch statements. Is it possible to do it with text boxes?
