I'm trying to gather changing information (just text really) from a web page, or collection of web pages. For example, looking up the most recent weather predictions from weather.com.
After searching the Internet I came across some code (which I don't fully understand) that seems to get the job done but not very efficiently:

I am writing an app that I would like to add a feature to for use for my company.We have a web page here in Tulsa that gives the current police activity or calls in our area. It can be seen here about the middle of the page under current calls. url...It is auto refreshed every 60 seconds. Any way, I would like to be able to access that info without having to load the page and display it on my app.
I have written a program that will gather data from several different COM ports and reformat the data before sending it to a web site. This program is intended to run 24/7, but only send the information at user specified intervals. I have the routines to gahter data, but I only need it to perform this task at the specified time (5 minutes to each hour). At startup the dialog minimizes to the system tray. I would like a balloon message notifiy anyone watching that the data is about to be sent, and allow them to add additional comments if they choose (by clicking on the balloon). The system tray icon has several context menu items that the user may need. Is this the proper use of a background thread? I would also like opinions on the best method for pausing execution until the specified time.
The code below randomly selects two players from "Preferences.txt" which has the names of all current players. (not necessarily all saved profiles) Now I need to find the best way to match 'Doer' and 'Receiver' with their profiles in "Players.txt" and get their profile attributes.
I know how to print a document from a file and a picture(Graphic) from a file but how do I print a current page of a Windows form I have developed. I.E. from my bank I get my statment by printing the page from a Print Page button. I tried codes I know but in my program it prints a blank Page.
I want to gather some data from some tables of an Access Database, I've found some solutions online, but I haven't found ways to fill a datatable, or dataset, and get each single field properly. Is it easier for me to get whole tables then get just the info that i want, or should I make a lot of searches in the access DB getting just what I want each time? Any code snippets for it? The Access Database is in an ACCDB file, with no user or password. I'm currently using VB.NET, but it doesn't matter if you answer in C#. [URL]
I have a simple multithread application that stores updated data from a list of websites. After each thread gathers data, it then store the data into the same text file. I am now thinking of having each thread store the data directly into a arrayList, and after a certain amount of time past, store from the arrayList to the text file. Which situation would enable the application to complete its task faster?
first of all, I'm not 100% sure this is the right forum to post this, as there seems ot be tones and tones of forum branches here, so if I'm not in the right location, i'm creating an IDE for a proamming language and I need a way to monitor the physical memmory usage of a process tree. I have been working on a program in where i can add a deck, and then test it out, for various reasons. (Too much mana, not enough mana, ect.) and i have been wanting to add pictures so i could see what cards are popping up, but have no idea on how to do that. i can use my.resources to add pictures for my own cards, but i have no idea on how to go about giving the cards pictures.

I have a master page which contains everything that inherits it within a form. A page inheriting from it needs to run some javascript to act on a text field on a page. However, I can't seem to reference that text field through the javascript, since the form begins on the master page. The following line will come up bogus: document.form1.txtFindUser.value = blah.responseText; This is because form1 is defined on the master page, while txtFindUser is on the current page.

Does anyone know why a Page_Load would be called twice on a page when requesting an aspx page?I am using .Net 2.0 with the new .net 1.1 compilation model installed. Whenever I request a page, the Page_Load on the aspx page appears to be called twice, so does the Page_Load on and user controls added to that page.
Is it possible to take certain text from a web page in the WebBrowser and paste it into a Rich Text Box in Visual Basic? I'm going to use this url... to generate a bunch of keywords and I want to highlight just the keyword paste it into the Rich Text Box.
The thing is i have a Master page and a Content Page. I have a LoadComplete in Content Page and a PreRender in Master Page. The problem is one of my htmlcontrols on content page i change on the LoadComplete event server side of the content page. I also have some code for disabling controls on the Master Page PreRender event. For some reason all controls on the aspx side go through the Master Page prerender except the ones that i change on the LoadComplete side. How can i make sure the entire content page loads and then the Master Page PreRender event is called, making all the controls go through that event.

I declare 2 tab pages and add them to a tab control. These 2 tab pages have different texts: Products and Support and the text's forecolor is black. Is it possible to change the text's forecolor of the second tab page to blue and keep the text's forecolor of the first page as black? e.g., Products is in black and Support is in Blue.

The page is from the Taiwan Stock Exchange, and I am trying to use VB6 to save the daily record of each stock into the hard disk.
Here is what I would like to achieve:
1. Enter a stock ID into the search box labled "股票代碼". The ID is a four digit integer such as 4111, 6122.
2. After submitting the ID, save the displayed trading record into a text file.
I do not know how to submit a stock ID, nor saving the displayed text. So far I am only able to save the source of the webpage, but that it does not contain the data I am looking for.
