Mar 29, 2012

I have 2 web pages. In the first webpage I have a text box which takes an user input. The number of controls rendered in the second page is based on the user input in the first page.I am storing the user input from the first page as a session variable [code]Now, I wish to use this session variable in the next page for initializing a global variable and what I tried to do is Dim num_Invitees As Integer = CType (Session("NoOfControls ToGenerate"),Integer)But this gives me a NullReferenceException. Can someone please suggest me what exactly I should be doing in order to use the session variable to initialize a global variable and also why the session variable's value is null while using outside a function but works fine when used inside a function?

C# - Session Variable For Particular Page / URL

Feb 3, 2011

I am using ASP.NET. It is possible to create a session variable on page load just for a particular page/url? The problem that I have is: The user comes to page 1 and the session variable becomes A, then he opens page 2 in a new tab and the session variable because B on both page 1 and page 2. Access A Page Variable From User Control Placed On That Page From VB?

Dec 27, 2009

I want to access a page variable from a user control placed on that page. All the solutions work in C# via casting to the page class. The problem is that this doesn't work in VB. The page class is not selectable from the Intellisense dialog. Manual typing results in the error type not defined. It is strange that C# can do this without a problem. What is the proper solution for this in VB? I had other cases where I needed to access a control on the main page. C# again uses a cast to the page class to access the control. This doesn't work in VB again. So how can I access the page class from a user control in generell?

Asp.net - Returning Variable Page Route Value To Page (URL Rewriting)?

May 7, 2012

In my global.asax.vb I have a rule like so:

RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("defaultRoute", "{*value}", "~/default.aspx")

So, if someone enters:[URL]...Even though that page doesn't exist, the application pulls up default.aspx

Now, if this wasn't using a wildcard it would be easy to pull this value in on default.aspx like so:

Dim prospect as String = Page.RouteData.Values("value")

But this doesn't seem to work with wildcards, e.g.:Dim prospect as String = Page.RouteData.Values("*value")

How can I get the page to pick up these variable values? e.g. one time might be janedoe, another johndoe, another goose, another 12345, etc. Whatever it is, I want it to be returned into the string prospect.

Asp.net - Using Javascript On An Aspx Page That Uses A Master Page - Which Contains The Page In A Form?

Aug 7, 2009

I have a master page which contains everything that inherits it within a form. A page inheriting from it needs to run some javascript to act on a text field on a page. However, I can't seem to reference that text field through the javascript, since the form begins on the master page. The following line will come up bogus: document.form1.txtFindUser.value = blah.responseText; This is because form1 is defined on the master page, while txtFindUser is on the current page.

ASP.NET Page Change Causes An Object Array In Session To Be Unable To Cast To It's Own Type?

Nov 11, 2009

I am storing an array of a custom serializable class in session on my site. When a page on the site changes, suddenly it renders them invalid, and tells me that it can't cast the type to it's own type. I assume the class version numbers are changing or something?!

I'm not trying to redesign this whole process.

Unable to cast object of type 'ShipmentPackages[]' to type 'ShipmentPackages[]'.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

The problem is one of my htmlcontrols on content page i change on the LoadComplete event server side of the content page. I also have some code for disabling controls on the Master Page PreRender event. How can i make sure the entire content page loads and then the Master Page PreRender event is called, making all the controls go through that event.

Binding Textblock So That One Change Of Variable On One Page Reflects In UI

Dec 27, 2010

I have a MainPage - mainpage.xaml Inside the MainPage I have a frame that hosts other pages. The first page that is auto loaded is the LogIn - LogIn.xaml

The user enters their email to login (no password required, just email to identify, its an internal app so passwords are not required or even wanted by users).

On MainPage.xaml the header should have a "Hello " TexBlock (name: ui_txbUserName). The LogIn page has a method which on submit gets the UserID (for other reasons and saves it) and the User Name.

I want to change the ui_txbUserName when the person logs in and update if he/she logs out of one account into another. I have looked at INotifyPropertyChanged and Dependency Properties and im just not sure how to go about doing this!

Declare A Variable That Never Change From Pageload Until Close The Page?

Sep 15, 2009

How to declare a variable that never change from pageload until i close the page. Simple Case :

* ShowInfo.PageLoad() begins to execute for UserA.
* ShowInfo.Page_Load() begins to execute for UserB
* UserA has variable Dummy = 100.

[code]....

But the Result: Since UserB's was the last one assigned to (which remember... there is only one version of this in all of memory), the Dummy Variable is assigned for both users but different session. UserB sees Dummy = 20 but UserA sees Dummy = 20 too. I Want that the result is UserA Dummy = 100 & UserB Dummy = 20?

Protected Sub editUser(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewEditEventArgs)
'set selected user from gridview.

This works in most cases. However, I am unable to access the "enabled" attribute of these web controls. Why is this, and how might I access that attribute?

Form With A Tab Control That Has 18 Pages - Click On A Tab It Opens The Page And Select A Textbox On That Page

Mar 8, 2009

I have a form with a Tab Control that has 18 pages. When I click on a tab it opens the page and select a textbox on that page (txtTextbox1. Select() ). This works for the first 8 pages but not for the remaining 10 pages. Although on these pages I can mouse click on the textbox, enter info, save then click my Add button that clears the textboxes and has the code (txtTextbox1. Select() ). The textbox is selected just fine. The code for all my pages is the same except for the tab name and the control names. The tab key will move the selection to the next textbox in order on all pages and the Enter key is coded to do the same. The first 8 pages have a total of 256 labels, buttons, list boxes, textboxes and checkboxes on them.

Javascript - Close Child Aspx Page If Gridview Index Is Changed On Parent Page?

Nov 17, 2011

I have a parent page and child page, both aspx. All is working, but now I would like to close child page, if user leaves child popup page and goes back to parent page and clicks on something else like page index of Gridview. I CANNOT close popup child page if user goes to another app, or some other location, I only want to close if something on parent page is changed.

I have the PageIndexChange Event set up for other purposes, I would just like to add some functionality, perhaps a script manager to close the child popup page if the Gridview index is changed, java or another way which ever works best.I think I might also need to check if the child page is even open.

.net - Find Exact ASP.NET Type Of Page From Inside A Master Page?

Jan 6, 2010

I'm trying to retrieve a custom Attribute set on a page's class from inside the MasterPage. Normally to do this I would need to reflect directly on the specific class, but inside the Master page it's always referred to as the Page type (the parent class). How do I determine the specific type of the Page property?

Here's an example of what I'm trying to do:
Dim attrs() As Object = Page.GetType().GetCustomAttributes(GetType(MyCustomAttribute), False)
For Each attr As MyCustomAttribute In attrs
' Do something '
Next

but it only ever returns the attributes attached to the actual Page class.

I'd rather not have to derive a new base type from Page if I can avoid it.

Here is how my class is defined (in the code-behind):<MyCustom()> _Partial Class PageClass Am I defining this in the wrong place?
