I have 2 web pages. In the first webpage I have a text box which takes an user input.The number of controls rendered in the second page is based on the user input in the first page.I am storing the user input from the first page as a session variable [code]Now, I wish to use this session variable in the next page for initializing a global variable and what I tried to do is Dim num_Invitees As Integer = CType (Session("NoOfControls ToGenerate"),Integer)But this gives me a NullReferenceException.Can someone please suggest me what exactly I should be doing in order to use the session variable to initialize a global variable and also why the session variable's value is null while using outside a function but works fine when used inside a function?

I am using ASP.NET. It is possible to create a session variable on page load just for a particular page/url? The problem that I have is: The user comes to page 1 and the session variable becomes A, then he opens page 2 in a new tab and the session variable because B on both page 1 and page 2. So when the user needs the session variable on page 1 it does not work because the variable have changed!

Is it possible to create a variable that is global for each session in ASP.NET? Usually I do this with Session:
Session("my_variable") = 10
But this necessitates casting it every time I want to use it like so:
Dim my_variable as String = CInt(Session("my_variable"))

I want to access a page variable from a user control placed on that page. All the solutions work in C# via casting to the page class. The problem is that this doesn't work in VB. The page class is not selectable from the Intellisense dialog. Manual typing results in the error type not defined. It is strange that C# can do this without a problem. What is the proper solution for this in VB? I had other cases where I needed to access a control on the main page. C# again uses a cast to the page class to access the control. This doesn't work in VB again. So how can I access the page class from a user control in generell?

In my global.asax.vb I have a rule like so:
RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("defaultRoute", "{*value}", "~/default.aspx")
So, if someone enters:[URL]...Even though that page doesn't exist, the application pulls up default.aspx
Now, if this wasn't using a wildcard it would be easy to pull this value in on default.aspx like so:
Dim prospect as String = Page.RouteData.Values("value")
But this doesn't seem to work with wildcards, e.g.:Dim prospect as String = Page.RouteData.Values("*value")
How can I get the page to pick up these variable values? e.g. one time might be janedoe, another johndoe, another goose, another 12345, etc. Whatever it is, I want it to be returned into the string prospect.

when the form loads, there is a table and i use code to set the row count to a variable from a previous page. this works fine. the problem i am having is that i cant get the row height sizes to be evenly spaced, there is 1 huge row then heaps of tiny ones.

I am using Vb.net. I have a counter variable Dim rc as Integer This is a class level variable. loading the page for the 1st time, its value should be 0.But later I manipulate its value in various methods.My page reloads after most methods & the value of rc is re-initialized to 0. how can I avoid this. I need the page to reload but the counter should keep incrementing.

Im writing a program in VB.net that consists of three main steps:STEP 1: Display the source code of a webpage that is streaming a movie on it in textbox1.STEP 2: highlight the URL to that movie in the source code, and then display just the URL in textbox3.STEP 3: Download that movie using HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse to a user defined directoryThe problem is that i dont know how i would go about extracting the URL from the source code effectively. maybe i could try searching the source code for the string ".mp4" or ".avi" or other video extensions, but that would only find the end of the link, how would i highlight the whole link?

The user enters their email to login (no password required, just email to identify, its an internal app so passwords are not required or even wanted by users).
On MainPage.xaml the header should have a "Hello " TexBlock (name: ui_txbUserName). The LogIn page has a method which on submit gets the UserID (for other reasons and saves it) and the User Name.
I want to change the ui_txbUserName when the person logs in and update if he/she logs out of one account into another. I have looked at INotifyPropertyChanged and Dependency Properties and im just not sure how to go about doing this!

How to declare a variable that never change from pageload until i close the page. Simple Case :
* ShowInfo.PageLoad() begins to execute for UserA.
* ShowInfo.Page_Load() begins to execute for UserB
* UserA has variable Dummy = 100.

But the Result: Since UserB's was the last one assigned to (which remember... there is only one version of this in all of memory), the Dummy Variable is assigned for both users but different session. UserB sees Dummy = 20 but UserA sees Dummy = 20 too. I Want that the result is UserA Dummy = 100 & UserB Dummy = 20?

I am currently working with a gridviews in asp.net(vb). I have it where I am able to pass information from gridview1 to gridview2 on the next page. However, what I need to do now is pass a variable from a column in gridview2 to the header of that page. i.e. in Gridview2 we have a column and all results are the same, the column header is StoreName and all the data for column is Sears. I know how to make the entire column invisible, but at the top of the page I need a sentence that looks like this:
Store Information for Sears
I am having trouble with what the code would look like for that line, all the thing I have tried have resulting in using a variable before it is declared. I need this line to be dynamic as the results will not always be for Sears.

In C#, I can declare an array variable like this: object[] Parameters;
And initialize it like this: Parameters = new object[20];
In VB, declaring and initializing an array is easy:
Dim Parameters(19) As Object
Dim Parameters As Object(19) ' Alternative Syntax
How would I initialize an array variable that has already been declared in VB.NET? Parameters = New Object(19) doesn't work.
For example, how would I translate the following to vb.net?

I'm planning to use some session variables on an intranet ASP/VB.NET page, and want to make sure that I'm not missing out on anything important I should know, or that I have my information mixed up. So here's what I (think) I know about session variables.They:are stored on the server, so if I have a lot of users then they'll each be using some more memory which could lead to a slowdown.are inaccessible by the user unless I expose access. hang around/persist across user requests (i.e. each time the user makes a request from the page the data will still be there - until it times out). This also means that I need to make sure that the variable doens't have "left over" data in it.
Is there anything that I've got totally wrong, or anything I'm missing? I'd prefer not to get bitten by a bug down the road because I think I understand what's going on.

If my sessions time out I want to re-direct the page to another URL: Say the home page. On my page I make use of a GridView that uses Session variables. If the session variable time expire(currently at 60min) and the user click on a row in the GridView I want to re-direct him/her to the home page of my site.

Using a session variable in my VB.net site has been figured out just fine. I just need to get my welcome message to stay put on every page. I put the code and text box in my master page to allow the message to stay there, but my label with the user's name disappears when I click on a different page.
The session is still there because I have it set up to display the textbox to enter your code if the session is destroyed or not available for some reason.
my code is not allowing the First_Name and Last_Name of the user's session to show up? The problem is in the Page_Load but I thought I would throw in the whole master.vb file to show everything I have so far.
