I need to read an xml file, and then build windows folders from it.How can I recursively keep track of the starting point of each node to know how to grab the string properly for the folder name?I have the following xml, and wish to get strings such as the following (to build folders):

I have a directory structure as follows;
ad_folder

at I do not know the number of or the names of the folders, they can be different in different cases, I only have the root path.how I can display folder contents in VB.net and the code worked but couldn't figure out how to create the arrays and display only folders within folders starting with "ad_".
System.IO.DirectoryInfo and System.IO.FileInfo to be used for getting the folders.A literal control can be used to create javascript arrays in ASP.NET. These js arrays can then be used on the client side.

when i run this command i get the error Incorrect syntax near '019'.
ive got a small code which takes a strign given by the user, searches for all folders with in a folder for matches then lists them, which is this:

The results are added to a listbox and all works great, but how do i get it to add partial matches aswell? For example if the search string is 'testing' and theres folders called 'testing on' 'testing testing' etc to show those in the results aswell?
It appears that when IO.Directory.GetFiles tries to read a folder that it doesn't have access to it throws an exception & stops reading. Is there any way to have skip those folders & continue reading the rest of the folders?

Example:

This 'method' is used several places in my code. When I look at the results some parts of the message are missing the vbCrlf it seems.

I need help with file enumeration. I'm trying to create a program that can list files, folders and sub folders locations in a log file for diagnostic purposes. After it searches it can open notepad and display the results. The problem I'm having is that I'm a beginner and not familiar with file enumeration.
View 14 RepliesAfter adding a string to the program from the resources the build always fails, and removing the string and the code to load the string does not solve the problem, as the build still fails. We've been using multiple versions of the program since this started happening with the most updated one, and adding the string is what started the failure in building even though we added other elements (like an exit button) and other forms without it failing. With the one that started with the build failures we've tried it on all types of computers and it does not manage to build on any of them, even one's with a new installation of Visual Basic Express 2010.
The exact line added that apparently makes the build fail is:

I've been trying to reuse my bosses vb.net buildpacket code which he has successful used for Serial programming eg. SerialPort1.Write(buildpacket(useraddress,252,"0006","0") for the function listed below.My challenge.Create equivalent functionality for Socket BeginSend() which requires a byte array.Whether modifying the vb.net below or getting a c# equivalent to work, it has been repeatedly recommended to scrap the string concatenation approach for which I have to use Encoding.BigEndianUnicode.GetBytes() and then getting rid of extra bytes with zero values.

It's playing in the background since the Form is hidden. When I play itin Debug, everything works fine. When I run the app outside Debug, I get this error: [URL] The Music File is there, but strangely, there comes this weird error.
A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?

Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. View 2 RepliesI am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?

The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?
I have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.
Is there a quicker way to check directories? For example I want to check if the folder "A Folders" contains folders from 000A all the way to 999A then lists the folder that are missing? Do you think this is possible?
