Get System Wide KeyUp Event?

Jul 15, 2011

Currently I am able to see if a key is currently pressed via the GetAsyncKeyState function. Currently I just simply have a timer running in the background that constantly checks if a certain key is pressed in order to run a command. However my issue is if the user holds down the key it will continually run that bit of code over and over per timer tick. Is there a way or another function to detect a keyup or keypress only. This is my current code to detect keys:

Public Declare Function GetAsyncKeyState Lib "user32" (ByVal vKey As Windows.Forms.Keys) As Integer Public ReadOnly Property CurrKey(ByVal key As Windows.Forms.Keys) As Boolean
Get Return CBool(GetAsyncKeyState(key))
End Get
End Property

VS 2008 Call KeyUp Event From MouseUp Event For A Textbox?

Aug 16, 2010

In VB6 we had a code inside textBox_MouseUp to call textBox_KeyUp(-1, 0) and the signature of KeyUp was
Private Sub textBox_KeyUp(ByRef KeyCode As Short, ByRef Shift As Short) Handles textBox.KeyUp

Now when I migrate to .NET I changed the KeyUp event to Private Sub textBox_KeyUp(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles textBox.KeyUp

How can I do this call textBox_KeyUp(-1,0) now from textBox_MouseUp event?

How To Implement A System Wide Text Replacement In Windows Programmatically

Dec 20, 2010

I have a small VB .Net application that, among other things, attempts to substitute system wide typed text by the user(hotstrings concept). To achieve that, I have deployed 'ahk2exe' and 'AutoHotkeySC.bin' with my application and did the following:When a user assignes a new 'hotstring':

Kill 'hotstring' exe script file if running Append new hotstring to the script file (if non exist then create a new one)Convert edited/new script file to exe (using ahk2exe)Run the newly converted script exe(somewhere there I also check if the hotstring has been already assigned)However, I am not totally satisfied with this method for the following two main reasons:

The extra resources deployed with the application. Lag: The time it takes for the system to kill the process and then restart it takes a minimum of 5 seconds on my fast computer and more on other computers. That amount of time is much more than the time it takes the user to assign the hotstring, minimize/close the window and then test his/her new hotstring. When the user does so initially with no success they will think the process failed. So this method is not very good for user experience.I am looking for a different method or implementation. May be using keyboard hooks? Or maybe adding a .dll library that achieves the same. Are there any resources you know about that might help (free or commercial)? What is the best way to achieve my desired goal?

Create A System-wide Independent Universal Counter Object Primarily For Database Keys?

Apr 5, 2010

I would like to create/use a system-wide independent universal 'counter object' that can be called via COM in a thread-safe manner. The counter object will be passed an ID to identify which counter to return, handle the counting, 'persist' the count (occasionally), have reasonable performance (as fast as possible) perhaps capable of 1000 counts per second or better (1mS) and be accessible cross-process/out-of-process. The current count status must be persisted between object restarts/shutdowns.

The counter object is liklely to be a 'singleton' type object implemented in some form of free-threaded dictionary, containing maybe 10 counters (perhaps 50 max). The count needs to be monotonic and consistent, (ie: guaranteed unique sequential values). Each counter should have a few methods, like reset, inc, dec, set, clear, remove. As a luxury, I would like to have a variable-increment (ie: 'step by' value). To support thread-safefty, perhaps some sorm of critical-section or mutex call. It just needs to return a long/4byte signed integer.

I really want something that can be called from anywhere, including VBScript, so I figure COM is my preferred solution. The primary use of this is for database keys. I am unable to use autoinc or guid type keys and have ruled out database-generated counting systems at this point.I've spent days researching this and I have really struggled to find a solution. The best I can find is a free-threaded dictionary object that can be instantiated using COM+ from Motobit - it seems to offer all the 'basics' and I guess I could create some form of wrapper for this.

Now I am using endedit to get the current value of the current row and column, now the problem is if the amount to be encoded is more than one digit it will not accept because of endedit. Get Information About A Processes When An System Process Event Is Raised An Event

May 17, 2012

I am making a function of an application that when a function is called the application will close all processes that are owned by the user and were started after a specific point. My thoughts on this would be to trigger an event in my application every time a process is started and ended, and only if the processes is owned by the user, the event should get information (e.g. the process ID, name, etc) about that process and add or remove that information to/from an array depending on if the process starts or ends. Then when a function is called end all the processes in that array.

Prevent Enter Key Passing Through To The Next Controls Keyup?

May 2, 2012

I am working on an application using a form with textbox controls as a menu. Pressing enter while the textbox has focus invokes another form and hides the menu form. The reason for this is a requirement that the mouse must not function at all in thisapplication. Not my idea but it is my job to make it so.The problem I could use some. When the user presses enter on the textbox on the menu form the keypress event is used to invoke the selected data entry form and the menu form is hidden. When the data entry form opens the cursor is supposedto be in the first field on the form but the first controls keyup event triggers and the enter keypress from the menu form is still active so the cursor moves to the second control on the form. Having the enter key move to the next field like tab does is also a requirement.

In the keypress of the textbox on the menu form e.handled is set to True but that does not prevent the passthrough. I realize there are many ways to force this to work as I intend by putting flags and so on in the data entry form but I have many to deal with and would like to find a solution I can apply on the menu form rather then adding code to every data entry form to compensate for .NET deficiencies.

.net - Wide Should VB Code Get?

Jun 27, 2012

In times past, most people coded on a terminal that was 80 characters wide. In many languages this has become, if not holy then close to it. But now many people have 20"+ monitors (or dual monitors), so screen real estate isn't as prime as it once was.

So my question is this: in Visual Basic code, should code be limited to 80 characters, should there be no limit, or is it really a subjective thing, dependent on where you work and your own preferences?

Prevent Texter / PhraseExpress From Causing Misfired KeyUp Events?

Nov 17, 2011

I have a VB.NET application. When Texter or PhraseExpress is installed and enabled, the program behaves poorly. Debugging has revealed that at times I can press Enter in a field and no event will be fired (i.e. no breakpoints in the event handlers get hit), then I press it again, and they will be fired twice. (Basically these cycle if I keep pressing enter - one time nothing will happen, the next I get two events, the next keypress does nothing, the next triggers two events, etc.)

Since Enter is used in certain places to trigger searches, or to move between fields for fast data entry using the numeric keypad, this effectively breaks the program in these spots. The problem is highly repeatable - disabling Texter or PhraseExpress causes the program behaves perfectly normally. Enabling them again causes it to break. Note that in both text expansion programs, I have assigned NO events to the Enter key. In fact, with Texter (haven't done this particular test with PE yet), it happens even if NO replacements have been defined at all, simply based on whether Texter is enable or disabled.

Display Which For Example Is 300 LEDs Wide By 300 LED's Deep?

I am after some GDI+ help, Basically I have an LED display which for example is 300 LEDs wide by 300 LED's deep, so you could say it has a resolution of 300x300.I am intending to use windows to process images ready to be sent to the display (as the display is dumb and simply displays what it is sent, But I require that the images are animated as well as static sort of like the basic PowerPoint animations (scroll on/off etc).to achieve this I need to write some code that creates frames much like gif's. So to scroll a 300x300 image onto the display I would need 300 separate frames.

So I have written the following code that uses the GDI+ objects to build the frames needed to scroll an image from the right or left.
