The following code selects a line ina richtextbox. It works OK expect from one problem:
When a line is biger than the size of the richtextbox, it wraps it. This create a big problem as I can not select the last line of the richtextbox (when a line is wrapped it becomes two lines). When I set wordwrap to off it works just fine

To read any form's text (except RichTextBox) line by line I've always used this splitting
Dim Lines() as String = Split(TextBox1.Text, vbNewLine)MsgBox(Lines(0))This code just works perfectly.But whenever I try this code on a RichTextBox like this:Dim Lines() as String = Split(RichTextBox1.Text, vbNewLine)MsgBox(Lines(0))The message box appears with the whole lines.I think maybe the RichTextBox1.Text() returns another new line character (means not vbNewLine).
I'm trying to copy only the first 15 characters(Including spaces) of a string from TextBox1 to Textbox2If the Text in TextBox1 is:abc1234 jklmnopqrst/uvxyThen the Text in TextBox2 should read as:

Why must the line continuation character be the last one on the line? Is there a technical reason for this or is this a usual Microsoft "feature"?
In other basic dialects you can add a comment after it, but not in VB.net, so I'm curious as to why Microsoft decided to not allow comments on these lines.
I want to insert a special character into a RichTextBox. The character is in a Medieval Latin font (Andron) which is installed on my machine.
When I open MS Word and select Andron as the font, then go to Insert Symbol, then scroll down till I find the symbol I want, I see that its Unicode value is A752, selecting it inserts it into Word OK.
Now, back to my VB2005 project: I have a RichTextBox on my form, and the Font is set to Andron. I have two buttons on the form. Behind the first button I have this simple
RichTextBox1.Text = RichTextBox1.Text.Insert(RichTextBox1.SelectionSta rt, "a")
Clicking this button simply inserts the letter 'a' at the insertion point, fine.
Behind the second button I have this
RichTextBox1.Text = RichTextBox1.Text.Insert(RichTextBox1.SelectionSta rt, ChrW(&HA752))
However, on clicking this button I get the ubiquitous square symbol, as if it cannot find that character, which is odd (to me) as the correct font is selected for the RTB, and that code is the correct code for the symbol I want.
Edit to add: I can now see that all characters up to Ascii (Decimal) 255 (which equates to Unicode 00FF) all display OK, but any value over that does not.
Let's say I have a textfile which contains paragraphs. Some of the paragraphs start with * or a > character. How do I index the words that start with these characters?
Example:

How can I replace character/word in text (loaded to richboxtext) but only for those which are not on the "block" list ?
Dim str As String = RichTextBox2.Text
RichTextBox3.Text = str.Replace("1"c, "A"c)
But I want add list of words which should be excluded. I thought that I can do something like :
Dim str As String = RichTextBox2.Text
If Regex.IsMatch(RichTextBox2.Text, "shows") Then
Else
RichTextBox3.Text = str.Replace("%"c, " "c)
End If
RichTextBox3.Text = str.Replace("1"c, "A"c)
Dim str2 As String = RichTextBox3.Text
RichTextBox3.Text = str2.Replace("2"c, "B"c)
But it's not working as it will just skip replace of % for whole text and I want just just exclude particular word from list from being replaced...
I am using a Rich TextBox in VB.NET and passing to a StringBuilder. I need to replace the New Line character from the TextBox with either a space or a comma. Problem is the standard codes for new line don't seem to be picking up this New Line character in this case. Is there a specific character used in Rich TextBoxes as the New Line?
View 5 RepliesI am using a WPF richtextbox to create a syntax highlighter for code provided in a textbox. I want to have it automatically adjust the rich textbox as I am typing, using a thread timer I reset the contents of the rich textbox. I am trying to keep the cursor where it is suppose to be. I don't loose any text characters during the parse (except line breaks).
I don't know how to keep the caret position where the user has left it in the text. It defaults to the end of the document. I attempt to store the current caret position in the text and then set it to the document after I make my changes, however the error I receive is "Cannot set CaretPosition to be outside of RichTextBox." So I set the caret position to the bottom of the document.
WPF, VB.net, .net Framework 4.0
Here is the code.
Public Sub FormatText()
If IsNothing(rtfContent.Document) Then
Exit Sub
End If
Me.rtfContent.IsEnabled = False

I know that in C the new line character is used. But what about in Visual Basic?
