I am sure this is a simple question to the more advanced, however, to the less advanced I am having a problem. I have to come up with a quick program (that works) for my job (I am a systems admin) that will either look in a database or excel sheet (which ever is easier) and find copy files from one directory to another. I know how to move, copy and delete, however, I need it to look for the specific filename.

I want to copy these files to another remote directory but receiving the error: "The target file "\Z02RSIDMC02SectionBondsG 269 PROCESSFOCUSED BOND REVIEWUploaded Documents est" is a directory, not a file.
I'm that familiar with using .CopyTo and haven't got very far with it.
CODE:
I'm not really sure where to begin for this. I'd like to scan a specified server directory for all files that it contains in the directory. (I will then compare the sizes to files already existing on the user's machine, but that I've got covered.)
If there's any way I could get around using FTP, I'd be very grateful, as this won't be entirely secure.
I did some exploring of the WebClient and WebRequest classes, but failed to conceive of a way to do this.
I would like to use WebRequest to display information on a file in a remote directory, and then if it satisfies the requirements, I would like to download the file using WebClient.DownloadFile. Can someone give me a quick example of how I would implement this routine?
View 2 Replieshow to use directory services for listing the members of the local administrators group on a remote pc in the following format?

Here is the final code that worked for me. This uses WNetAddConnection2 to establish a connection first, before using DirectoryEntry.
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Imports System.Net
Imports System.DirectoryServices
Imports System.IO

So I moved the code to an ASP.Net web app, which is impersonating a service account through the Impersonate section of web.config. The account I am impersonating does not have admin rights on any of the workstations so I put in a username/password into the constructor for the computer entry like so:
Dim deComputer As New DirectoryEntry("WinNT://" + Computername + ",computer", username, password). The username is that of a domain account which has local admin rights on every workstation. If I look at the Username property of the resulting deComputer object I can see that the username matches what I entered. Also if I enter in an invalid password it throws an error, so it is authenticating in some fashion.
However if I now try and add or remove a user from a remote workstation I get a general access denied error. If I add the service account that ASP.Net is using as a local admin on that workstation it will add and remove no problem. So next I tried using the LogonAPI (advapi32.dll ->LogonUser call) to login as the user account that is a local admin on all workstations, impersonated the resulting WindowsIdentitiy and tried running just the original deComputer instantiation. When I do this every property, excepty Path, returns an OLE exception..
I'm using the 2.0 framework to get a list of queues from a remote machine. Sometimes the machine has a firewall and then the user has to wait 80 seconds or so before an exception is thrown stating that the machine is unavailable. Questions: Is there any way that I can set/change the timeout for GetPrivateQueues ByMachine? Is there any other method I can call before running GetPrivateQueuesByMachine to see whether the machine is responding? One that has configurable timeout, Any other solution?

I am trying to come up with a good way to enumerate hard disks on remote workstations, possibly including administrative shares, so I can audit key files on them without having to access them via sneakernet.I have domain administrator rights. Security policy prohibits using WMI which would be a great solution.I can retrieve a list of computers using Active Directory, but I need some way to determine what drives are available on each system. Is such a thing feasible? A fellow developer offered some VB6 code from years ago that used WNetOpenEnum, but I was hoping that since we are at .NET framework 4, maybe there's a more elegant / managed way of working with this. I'm keen to use technologies that are more generally supported, such as standard APIs etc. WMI is a great solution but apparently is blocked by default by Windows Firewall, so its availability is not guaranteed.
View 2 RepliesI've been struggling for hours now to get some working code to list the share permissions of a remote share. I've got WMI code which uses win32_share which lists the shares and path and it works great. I"m now trying to add in a routine to get the share permissions as well.
I've searched just about every site for some sample code and can only find some C# (I think) code.

way to retrieve list/rename hiddne files from the remote host. I need to upload the file to a server and then move it to another directory, but the file after being transfered becomes hidden. If I try to rename it any way I get the dreaded 550 in response. I would hate to move to commad line scripting which at the moment seams to be my only option.

I am looking for a control that gives me a directory listing like treeview with check boxes, i have seen a solution for this from this guy over at [URL] and found it really complex for me to work with at my level.
There are controls within visual studio 2008 that can do this but again my Visual Studio skills are non existant at this time, has anyone else ever seen a control or a simpler solution to this problem...
Can't seem to find a way to do this, google is failing me!
