dynamically get the range of cells in Excel using VS 2005 vb.net. This works oRange = oSheet.Range(oSheet.Cells("A1"), ("U281")).Select, but "U281" will not always be the last cell in the range. So how would I dynamically get the last cell with data in it with the same format as U281.
I'm trying to copy a Range from Excel and Paste the information in powerpoint in either the HTML or the default format, however, I am having some difficulties. I am able to get the code to work for pasting the Range as an OLE Object but nothing else. The problem with doing this is that having the embedded excel documents in the powerpoint makes the file extremely large and unstable. I just need to be able to paste the information without the embedded information where it is editable (so, not as a bitmap or picture).
With ppt2Slide Sheets(index2).Activate Range("CP12:CT" & RangeIndex2).Copy
OK I have been gooding for over 8 hours trying to figure this out. Bare with me I do not work with arrays much.I have brought an array in from a range in excel. This works fine. Through debugging i can see the values are brought in correctly.
Issue is I want to see if a string exists within that array (or cells).I have tried lots of things and pretty much mutilated my code but here it is:
My objective is to select specific positions in a moving matrix of a fix range with VBA for Excel 2003. The fix range is about 5 or so columns wide and has a few thousand rows. I select a matrix of 5 to 7 rows and same number of columns. I choose a specific position number in this matrix, write that number in another sheet and move on the next matrix just below where I do the same, and this until the last line of the range.
I've tried to write a loop function but this seems to take a lot of execution time.
I have a working excel vba macro that does what I want from here and I am trying to convert it to VB.NET.
The code from VBA:
Sub bah() ''' Set Range you want to export to file Dim rgExp As Range: Set rgExp = Range("B2:C6") ''' Copy range as picture onto Clipboard
[code]....
I am running into trouble converting the ActiveChart.Paste method. I can't get it to work in VB.NET. It either throws an error or It just leaves an empty box when I do it in VB.NET (if I add .chart before the paste it runs, but doesn't paste any values), but in VBA it fills in the values of interest. I have tried creating a chart object, but that did not seem to work either.
I need to import data from Excel worksheet into the VB.Net program. First, I need to get the data to some array or arraylist and secondly to show the data to user through datagridview or similar. So far, I have this
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim myDataset As New DataSet() Dim strConn As String = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=C:TempTest.xls ;" & "Extended Properties=Excel 8.0;"[code].....
How can I adjust the code to manage that? And how can I import the same range to variables (the range contains approx. 200 rows and 30 columns of data points) and I need the flexibility to add or delete items (rows) from the data in memory later.
I have : Dim cell As Excel.Range = sheet.Range("A2") Console.WriteLine("Cell references to = " + ????? ) What should I replace ????? with to get A2 printed in its place?
Does anyone know how to copy a VB.Net list of structures to an Excel range? It's not hard to do with an array, but I can't get a list of structures to work.xample:
Structure MyStruct Dim MyField1 as String Dim MyField2 as Integer
I've found ways to read from a .txt file into Excel, but (having created and loaded an Excel sheet via vb.net 2008) I want to do the opposite which is to read each cell and row into a .txt file csv format like this: "Surname","Andrew","2","Mr","Hon.Member","PERCUSSION" I guess I need some way of knowing when the last row of data ends. Once in a .txt file I can load data in a variety of ways into several ListBox/s and labels without loading and reading the original Excel file.
This is driving me crazy. I keep getting an exception with the below code trying to usethe Find method. he error is "Unable to cast COM object of type Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.ApplicationClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Application'. This operation failed because theQueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{000208D5-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error: No such interface supported (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004002 (E_NOINTERFACE))".I have confirmed LastRow = 845
Imports System.IO Imports Excel = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel ' open a read-only version of the data file
Why are there no examples that I can find on how to import an excel range into SQL Server, there are plenty of example on how to import the whole spreadsheet but none for the range? I find this wierd.
What I need to do is import an excel named range into a sql table using vb.net. I have been able to import the range from excel to access but not to sql server. I used the many examples that are on the web using OLEDB for the connection part and ODBC for the command. However I continually get the cannot find and installable ISAM. I have excel 2003 and Excel 2007 on the box.
I know this can be done using SQL Server SSIS package, which I have used before, however you have to install certian SQL Server features on the box that is running the application for this to work. I want my application to be able to run on any box that it is installed on without the need for the SQL Server features to be installed.
I want to define a range in Excel, but I do NOT want to use "A" or "D" references for columns. I am making a table, and to set it's range I use: Code: .Range("A1:D4")
However, at the time i write the code I do not know how many columns will be involved, so I don't know if "D" is the end column. For rows this is fine, as i could write this: Code: .Range("A" & i & ":D" & j)
But how do I do this for columns? I really would rather not have to convert my integer number for the end column to text. If I know that the table should go from row 1 to 5 and column 1 to 10, how to I select this range?
I have formulas in certain cells and happens to be part of the Excel range that I pull into a vb.net array and when I write the array back out to the Excel Range, I loose all the formulas in it.Is there an option to retain formulas in a .net array?
So I created a loop that collects data from the user that runs for a time dictated by the user. It then stores all the data in excel and outputs a graph. The problem I am having is that I cant seem to figure out a way to set the range of the graph for the points taken.since it runs on a loop i have i = i + 1.where the the output into the excel file sequentially writes to the next cell [code]which doesnt seem to work like I would have hoped. Also, there is one other thing that my program keeps doing that I cant seem to figure out.One of the outputs to the excel file is decimal number, it shows perfectly in the textbox, but when I export it to excel it rounds it to the nearest whole number.[code]
I have an integer array which contains the different col widths for an range of excel worksheet.when i use Range.ColumnWidth= ColWidths (Colwidths is the int array), it takes lot of time to do all the process (i.e opening excel , formatting range, setting values)But when i use Range.ColumnWidth = 15 then all the process is done in a flash. Why using an integer array takes time? I did even try replacing int array with string array, but same time taking result?
I have the following error for every cell: "the number in this cell is formatted as text or preceded by an apostrophe" To duplicate the error: I have to store this results that come from a Web services as strings array: Sample: (3 by 3 array)
In VB6 I could assign an Excel range directly to a variant array dim vArr as variant vArr = xlSheet.range("A2:A10").value and then work with vArr to pull out the values I needed. This doesn't work in VB 2010. Is there a replacement procedure to allow me to read in a range (perhaps large) all at once and then process the data without needing Excel?
I am currently using Outlook 2007 and Excel 2002 SP3 and VBA for OfficeUsing VBA, I want to copy a range from Excel, open a new email in Outlook and then past the range into the body of the email (rather than as an attachment) as a Bitmap (so that the report on the email looks exactly the same a the range that is copied from).I can do most of the above but putting the bitmap into the body of the email is neigh on impossible..I can get VBA to paste the range into an email but then it loses most of its fomatting and looks horrible. Thats why I'd rather put the bitmap into the body of the email.I'm guessing that there is no easy solution to this..
I am trying to open an exisiting excel sheet and then I want to copy a range of cells in to an array in one shot instead of looping thru cell by cell. And then I want to do some calculations and then move them to database tables.[code]...
I have the following situation: Contents of an Excel sheet have to be displayed in PowerPoint slides. I have put this in a function where the following line copies the contents of the Excel table as a picture:
I have an Excel VBA function that takes a number of optional parameters, including an optional Range: Function DazBeta(A As Range, Z As Range, _ B As Integer, _ Optional Freq As Integer = 1, _ Optional c As Double = 0, _ Optional r As Range, _ Optional Pct As Boolean = True, _ Optional Label As Integer = 1)
I am translating to VB.NET, and it's the optional Range that is giving me grief because VB.NET does allow optional Ranges. Or rather, optional parameters must provide a default value. What is the recommended way to change the VB.NET function signature so that the code is callable from an Excel cell as a UDF? (The VB.NET implements a UDF, the assembly is registered as a COM server, and the Excel spreadsheet is told of this server and type library, allowing the VB.NET code to be called from an Excel spreadsheet cell.) I have other compilation problems, so I have not been able to explore this. I am thinking that accepting an optional Object (default value Nothing) might work and then I could cast the Object to a Range. Alternatively, if there were a default value that could be specified with an optional Range, that would work, too.
Having created a small (Excel Automation) VB Appl. to manipulate and present data from Excel sheets in an organised form, I ran across a problem resulting from creating a named range on a sheet, the code line:
seems to work as expected, my only issue here is that this was written on a System that is US-en, and when trying this on a PC DE-de - we have users with varoius language sets - the code fails with a COMException. The only cure I have found to date, is to write the German language version of this:
How can I write my code / what tools do I need to use, in order that my application will work with any Excel language - and me not having to know all possible equivalents for a particular command or function?
In VBA / VB.NET you can assign Excel range values to an array for faster access / manipulation. Is there a way to efficiently assign other cell properties (e.g., top, left, width, height) to an array? I.e., I'd like to do something like: Dim cellTops As Variant : cellTops = Application.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Top..The code is part of a routine to programmatically check whether an image overlaps cells that are used in a workbook. My current method of iterating over the cells in the UsedRange is slow since it requires repeatedly polling for the top / left / width / height of the cells.I'm going to go ahead an accept Doug's answer as it does indeed work faster than naive iteration. In the end, I found that a non-naive iteration works faster for my purposes of detecting controls that overlap content-filled cells. The steps are basically:
(1) Find the interesting set of rows in the used range by looking at the tops and heights of the first cell in each row (my understanding is that all the cells in the row must have the same top and height, but not left and width)
(2) Iterate over the cells in the interesting rows and perform overlap detection using only the left and right positions of the cells.[code]
