I am currently enrolled in the class. My final project for the class will generate random numbers within a range of numbers. For example, if I give the user five text windows to choose whether to input a number OR generate a random number, I will have a button called RANDOMIZE. Unfortunately, I do not know the line(s) of code for the random function.

View 2 RepliesHere's the program. there are five categories say a, b, c, d, e, each in a textbox (color blue). There will be a command button say "choose". If i click the choose button, it will randomly choose one category and that corresponding textbox example "a" will change color(color yellow). Then if I want to click the choose button again, the selected category "a" from the first selection will change to gray, then a new category will be randomly chosen without "a" in the list and again will change to color yellow. and so on. So I can click the choose button five times, exhausting the five categories without repeating the category that was already selected.

I have seen in other posts that some software like java has the integer type BigNumber or BigInteger but i cant find anything like that in visual basic. I'm running into this problem a lot using Visual Basic. I also can't seem to find any of the standard upper level math features in visual basic such as factorials and a few others that i can't remember but couldn't find under the math feature. any suggestions? (Sorry let me rephrase, any suggestions on how to do this stuff without switching to a different programming language.)

In a while loop, I am writing a progressively increasing integer value (between 0 and 100) to the Value attribute of a ProgressBar control, when it disappears from the window in which it resides. I have verified at the time that it disappears that the Min is 0, Max is 100, and Value is a valid integer in range.

I need a small app that randomly shuffles a set of preloaded numbers. The shuffling will be visible on the screen and goes on continuously (looping) until a key is pressed and as soon as that happens it will show the winning number.Am using visual basics 2008 to develop the application but my problem is when i start the app and hit a key it will loop through my numbers on the text file and it will also display the event but if i hit a key to stop it will not stop..I was workin on the app but my problem is how to stop the loop and resume on the with a keypress. below is the app codes.

I am very new to Visual Studio Application Development. I'm mostly a DB guy. I used Visual Studio as a Report Designer, not much of an .Net guy though I can understand it. I am now asked to create a .net application and I'm trying to create a "Hello World" starter app. I opened my Visual Studio, click File-New Project and all I see is Business Intelligence Projects and Other Project Types. My step-by-step guide says choose Visual Basic, Windows Forms Application. But I can't see it as an option.

9 out of 10 times iRandom is 0, the other time it was 1. The code isn't on a timer, it happens when I do something (say clicking a button), so the frequency of the code being called is about 2-3 seconds, I say this because I've had similar issues when generating random numbers really fast in a timer, or with a for loop IIRC.X is a variable that, presently, starts at 3, and will decrease until 0, in which it'll return back to 3. Obviously, if X is 0, iRandom will be 0, but it shouldn't be 0 all the time.I'm declaring the variable globally because I remember, again, having similar issues using local variables, idk whether I should be or not.
I was before knew how to code that it will give me a random number! Also i know it was 2 ways i could make it. A range from like 0 to 100 if i want that. And then it draws a random number from that! And i knew another there i could type in the numbers and it draws a random from there.

The results are much more consistent and evenly distributed if I use the same Random generator.I would have thought the opposite,because creating a new Random generator each time should reduce the number of random repetitions, if a different time slice is used to create the random number.[code]......
