I am using Process.GetProcessByName to find how many sessions have a specific program running in it and to get the user's name associated with that process. The Process.SessionId is correct but the Process.StartInfo.UserName property is always empty. Is there another way to get a user's name that is associated with a specific process?
View 1 RepliesI have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

My program is mostly done, but I only just ran into a problem: when I try to get the path (one of the criteria) of a process running under a different user, (MainModule.FileName) I get an exception:

Now, the program doing the checking is running with complete administrator privileges, so I can pretty much wrangle any permission I need. How can I obtain the path of the process? (I can use WMI, by the way, I've already used it for another part of this).

We have a stored procedure that executes in a long time so we decided to enclose it in a thread. Before executing the long stored procedure, the procedure should be locked so that only one user can execute the thread. However, I have noticed that a user can still execute twice. Here is the code. [code] The problem is when I tested the code by opening two browsers then simultaneously process, two records are being inserted into our lock table. The second user should not be able to process because the DoProcess is already locked.

I have tried using pr.StartInfo.UserName but that just returns the username of the person logged onto the machine.
In fact, the process is being written into a library to be pulled in from other applications. However, how do I provide a way for a WinForm to subscribe to the process to update as the process gets executed? I've open this question from both VBA/VB6 and .Net because its part of the gamut for UI development.It's also worth mentioning that these are subroutines and not classes that are running the methods, so event raising appears to be out of the question.[code]

I've seen other posts related to this but have seen no resolutionI've tried many things and have been unsuccessful in starting the process from a Windows Service when a username, password is supplied. orking as it's a requirement of our system to do this and it worked fine until recently and only fails on Vista and Windows 7 (works on XP).

The original code came from AutoItI just rewrote what was necessary for VB.NET and added the structures and throws. If successful the PID of the process started is returned, else an exception is thrown. No imports needed.
View 3 RepliesI have a vb.net 2008 application that is supposed to run at startup. After meeting certain conditions, the PC is supposed to restart. Below is the code that is failing:

myUsername and myDomain are both strings while myPassword is a SecureString. The application works properly when execute manually, but give the following error when executed from startup (either by placing in the startup folder or by adding to the registry):
The directory name is invalid
Also, the program executes properly when the last 3 arguments are left out and the user has the necessary rights.

However, I've decided to change it up a little bit and change the color of rows based on whether the process is owned by the User, if it's a System process, or if is a Service. It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..
I have a program that starts another program after setting the regkeys basically the program continually syncs the calandar of outlook and another application.I set the regkeys than launch the c:sync.exe app. I have tried a simple process.start and launching the process as a thread and they both do the same thing: The other process starts and works as it should but my main program goes "White screen" or "not responding" until the process.start has exited.
I want the process.start to run in the background so if users click in my main app it responds and truly that they can access the context menu of my main app from the taskbar while the process.start is running.

View 9 RepliesI am working on a small VB application that listens for commands sent from an Android app.
One of the functions is to extract an archive. I am familiar with how to listen for the unrar process to finish, so I can display a progressdialog on the phone while the extraction is happening, and clear it as soon as it's done.
BUT ... if there is an error/alert from WinRAR, WaitForExit() never gets called because WinRAR is still sitting there open until I click "OK" on the MsgBox.
For Example ... if you try to extract a file that is not actually an archive... an alert will pop up saying "No Archives Found", and basically everything is halted on the VB app and the Android app, and the Android app just sits on a progressdialog saying "extracting..." until you manually hit "OK" on the computer.
As you can imagine, this is a problem if the whole point of your app is to NOT have to go over to the computer.
So... I am wondering if there is something similar to WaitForExit() that will wait for an error and allow me to close out the alert and let the process end.

I have an issue using Process.MainWindowTitle,Process.MainWindowHandle on some older VB6 applications. After Process.Start I use Process.MainWindowTitle to display in a listbox. The MainWindowTitle returned is not the Window Title but in fact the Project name of the VB6 exe.? I also store the MainWindowHandle to use the ShowWindow and SetForeGroundWindow API's. It would appear that the ShowWindow API does not work, but the SetForegroundWindow does. ie: if the VB6 app is minimized, showwindow does not restore, if it is NOT minimized setforewgroundwindow sets it to the foreground. The exact same code does work correctly for any other .net exe or notepad, only on these vb6 programs I am having a problem.
