Database Logic - Differences Between Datasets And Datatables ?

Jan 12, 2009

My understanding of databases (access and sql) is fairly limited, though i have got a couple of programs under my belt using access databases, not yet used SQL. I could however, work around to figure out a way to do what i'm trying. What i don't understand is the need for all of the components, so all i'm after is somebody who can take the time to fully explain these further to me, or point me in the direction of somewhere i can gather a full understanding.

My questions are, for now;

1. Why do we need to take a copy of the database, rather than dealing exactly with the database itself?

2. What differences are there between datasets and datatables, what is better for what and why?

3. What is the purpose of the data adapter?

What Are The Differences Between Using OLEDB And ODP.NET To Connect To An Oracle Database

Aug 27, 2010

I have two small VB.NET applications that connect to the same Oracle database. One uses the OLEDB provider, and the other uses Oracle's ODP.NET. Should I expect to see problems with the OLEDB provider, as it's less 'native' to Oracle?

2. including a pattern that matches two words near each other.

VS 2010 Using Substring To Extract Paragraphs?

Aug 4, 2011

I have the following code which seems to work as intended.

From what i can tell is that Size is not the same as the amount of characters in a particular string, Is Size a size as in Bytes,Kilobytes etc?

Edit: Ive attached a PDF showing the output from this code. Which as you can see shows the wrong output and the sentence's go off of the side of the pdf.

So from what i can see is that tempPage.width (Which is 612) is some how wrong, because 612 characters goes off the side of the PDF Doc.

Public Sub writeParagraph(ByVal text As String, ByVal fontSize As Integer, ByVal align As Char)
Dim newPara As New paragraphLine(text, fontSize, xAxis, newFont)

[Code]....

This was working as intended but then i realised "What if it was possible to generate 1 paragraph at a time and then check the yAxis of the page and if it has been met or exceeded then continue to write the paragraphs on a new page".

Im having a blank brain day lol , I cant seem to work out the correct calculation to extract each paragraph 1 at a time and add it to the arrayList.

Store Paragraphs Of Information, And Then Search For It Based On A Keyword?

Oct 13, 2010

I want to build an application using VB, that is essentially an information system.The operation of this system would be as follows:1. User can select one of several buttons, each button being a different topic.2. When a button is selected, information about that topic appears on the right hand side of the form.3. The system allows information to be added by a user So, for example, if a user clicked on the button named 'Banana', information about the banana would appear on the form, where the user could read this info, scroll down etc.I would also like the user to be able to search a specific word like 'apple' and for information on the apple to appear.How could I implement this? I don't know how I would store paragraphs of information, and then search for it based on a keyword.

Html Source Code Doesn't Show Html But In Firebug Inspect Element Html Is There?

Jan 10, 2012

This may sound really stupid but I have to ask cause I'm not finding this answer anywhere.I have an application where the user will need to sign up for a new user account on the website [URL]..However when I am using Firefox's plug-in Firebug to view html I am getting something totally different than when I just right click on the site and view the page source.

What I am trying to do is to get the captcha from the website and display it in a picturebox on the application so the user can view the captcha, solve the captcha and then the app post is back to the service for a response.

Here is the source that I am getting using Firefox's Firebug to inspect the element:

<td>
<input type="hidden" value="Oo3Jo1I8bgzK68agMqo3s79ZZib2OkbK" name="iden">
<img class="capimage" src="/captcha/Oo3Jo1I8bgzK68agMqo3s79ZZib2OkbK.png" alt="i wonder if these things even work">
</td>

[Code]...

Why would the two be showing me two different versions of the HTML?

And how would you be able to grab that source to view in a picturebox using webclient?

Sending An HTML Email, Where The HTML Comes From An HTML File .Net/ClickOnce Environment?

Jun 20, 2009

Usage: Users create pretty HTML news letters in another app. They post the newsletter to the web, but they also want to set the contents of the HTML news letter file as the body of an email and send it using Application In Question. The users understand to use absolute link and image references when sending an E Newsletter. Environment:

AIQ is a VB.Net app deployed via ClickOnce. It is an intranet app; one can be sure MS Office 2003 and the interop 11 dlls are on the target machines.

Restrictions: MAPI is out. It mangles the HTML. Since it is a ClickOnce deployment, we can't register dlls (I think, correct me if I am wrong). Therefore CDO and COM is out (again, I may be wrong.... I would be happy to be proven so).

Mail-merge HTML From A Database Into MS Word?

Oct 2, 2010

I am using this editor for the users to enter their text in the database interface environment that will both load/save/show them what they are working on in the form and also mail-merge into a Word document waiting for the content. I can do the first step and it works well, but how do I get MS Word to recognize HTML as formatting instead of just merging in tags and text all as text?

The tool has two relevant properties: one to get just the text (no markup, i.e. no HTML) and one to get the full markup with HTML. Both of these are in text format (which I use for easy storage in the Database).

ideas/directions I can think of:

1) use the clipboard. I can copy/paste the content straight from the editor window to Word and it works great! But loading from a database is significantly different, even when using the clipboard programatically. (maybe I don't understand how to use the clipboard tools)

2) maybe there is a library or class/function in Word that can understand the HTML as "mergable" content?
