I've been trying to do this for a while and so far I haven't been able to. I tried using a for loop, but that just put all my lines in to one textbox.
View 8 RepliesUsing VS/VB 2010 and a windows form that will display 2 rich text boxes. The basic idea is to load rtb_1 with "primary data" and rtb_2 with "corresponding notes" underneath rtb_1. Scenario:
When the user clicks a button_1, rtb_1 is displayed on the form with size(1232, 364) and the main data loaded into it from a file.When the user clicks button_2, the size of rtb_1 is "new size(1232, 200)" and rtb_2 is displayed directly below it with size(1232,168).Does anyone know why the scroll bar works fine for rtb_1 w/out rtb_2 showing... but when the rtb_2 is displayed the rtb_1's scroll bar does not allow me to go to the very bottom of the text?
In a program I'm planning to generate reports which I'll display using the rich text boxBesides rich text, i want to put images into the rtb. I've looked up how to put images into rtbs and the only way that i can find seems to be by pasting them from the clipboardThis method works well with setting bitmaps to the clipboard but i run into a problem when i try to set a metafile to the clipboard (the report contains plots and metafiles are perfect for that kind of thing). So if there could be another way of inserting a metafile into a rtb or maybe a way to write a rtf file with a metafile in it, that would be great.

View 14 RepliesI've been writing a weight program for flooded pressure vessels and I'm having trouble retrieving the data from the text files I've been saving. I know how to write the data to the text file, but retrieving it with OpenFileDialog is not so easy for me.The user has individual text boxes that they input strings or numbers into and when they save the file, each text box input is written to one line in the text file. For example, the first text box is for the username, therefore the first line of text that is saved is the person's name, the second text box is the customer, thus the second line in the text file is the customer name, and so on.
(Actually, the first line of text in the saved file designates whether English units were used or Metric units because when the user retrieves the saved file, English units will open one form and Metric units will open a separate form, so some If...Then statement will need to occur).I need to be able to read the first line, have either my "EnglishForm"form open or my "MetricForm" form open, and then have each subsequent line of text be displayed in their corresponding text boxes. I know I need to use ReadLine or LineInput, but I don't have a clue what to do.Assuming the syntax I've displayed below would just magically work (if only life were that easy), it would look something like this

i need to code a program to help me in my everyday job, i own my own business and this will help me with my sales. its a very simple program, and i cant figure out how to get my multiple textboxes to write to a new .txt file. i can only get it to do 1 line at a time. I have textboxes. named txtDate, txtCarrier, txtLocation, txtDateEmpty, txtDestination, txtQuote, txtPhone, txtFax, txtEmail.I want the "txtDate" textbox to be autofilled with the current date and time of the user input, which is started on the next textbox.the rest of the textboxes are going to be user input. then when the user is done entering data into the multiple textbox's they would click a button "add" or something to that sort.then those text box entries including the "txtDate" would be written to a new .txt file.in this format, Quote"Date - Carrier - Location - DateEmpty - Destination - Quote - Phone - Fax - Email "all on the same line.and when the "add" button is clicked, the multiple textbox fields clear all the data previously entered.and is ready for another user input.

I want to be able to write the contents of the text boxes to a file.txt (the easy part) then being able to retrieve them back out into individual text boxes. How would I pull this one off?

In the sense, a whole paragraph is displayed in one line and the next one in the next line and so on. What I would like to know is how, if there is no text selected inside the rtb, to make it only change the text that is typed after the change. 1) On one of my forms i have a richtextbox but whenever the programs ads something like richtextbox1.text = richtextbox1.text & "New Entry" The box goes back up to the top and you need to re-scroll down to the bottum. Is there anyway i can have it to always go to the bottum when something is changed instead of reverting back to the top. Because things are added almost every 1-2seconds until it gets to the point where you cant scroll down to read what was said before something new is added and it jumps back to the top.
If you dont know what i mean make a timer of 1 second that ads somethign to the textbox and youll see what im talking about.
2)Or better still is there anyway to get the program to recive new lines from the textbox. Basicly I have a textfile which is read by around 4-8 clients. I want each client to know what its read so it can process the textfile but i dont want it to say add something like ' to the start of every line its read and ignore all ' lines because then the other client will ignore it to. So what im looking for is a sub that will process the textfile and put any previous unread lines (previous unread lines that session [i.e since program restarted]) into a string array like newline(1)
