I'm trying to make a calculator that adds from two text boxes and displays the answer in another box, but It gives an error when someone enters a character. What can I do to display a string error message in the third box if a letter is entered in one of the first two boxes instead of a number?

Create a variation of this program that allows the user to specify any starting whole number and any ending whole number (10,000 or lower) and then adds all the whole numbers in that range. Allow for the possibility that a user may start with a high number and end with a low number. Format the label so that commas are displayed and there are no decimal places showing. I need help with the codes.

View 6 RepliesI am making a program, where the user enters 6 numbers in 6 different text boxes, and it displays the larger of those 6 numbers. But I also want to make it where if the user enters a string value (like S for instance) in the text boxes, it gives an message and says "please enter the numbers again" and the user gets to enter the 6 numbers again. But when I do try to do that, it gives an error message saying conversion from "w/e the user entered" to Double is not valid. If the user just enters the numbers, it works fine. However, I am trying to make it if the user does enter non numeric value, it gives a message window and the user can reenter the numbers again.

This is where I am trying to use IsNumeric to show a message if a user does not enter a string so the user can renter the numbers again, but when the user does enter a string value (say in textbox 1) it gives me an error message saying conversion from "S" to 'double' is not valid.

Then right here this is where I have my series of ifs statements, this part works fine, it displays the largest numbers of the 6 textboxes every time. Error free.

I know there are easier ways to do these with arrays and stuff. But I am not there yet. I am still learning about ifs and stuff.

I am using Visual Studios 2008. I'm trying to make a basic addition calculator. It consists of 2 input text boxes, 1 output box and one button. Below is the code I have which works, however, instead of just displaying the answer, I want it to display the entire arithmetic problem including the answer. For example. Instead of just giving me the answer of "6" in the output text box, I want it to say "3 + 3 = 6".

To pass decimal values to radio buttons so I can calculate an output answer. it is a tip calculator. I am using radio buttons as options to choose what amount to tip, ie. 10, 15, and 20%. I need to figure out how to pass the value to the buttons in code so I can calculate the tip amount.

So much for automation "Sendkeys" do not work, because code execution stalls at the line which opens the dialog boxes. To test it I used the MsgBox and everytime the form opens it triggers the Msgbox 3 times each combobox.
I tried with SelectecIndexChanged and SelectedValueChanged but none of them worked good (I tried both isolated, one at time)
i have a form when it appears it has 5 textboxes and 5 labels and a button. the user enters the information in all 5 textboxes and the button dims each as a string eg dim netno as string netno = textbox1.text
it then hides all boxes and labels and displays a datagridview.when the user presses the add record i want it to place the data in the netno in the column0 field for the new record and then focus on the next column automatically,
I'm trying to make a small database out of text boxes and text files, something where sql would be overkill, not to mention beyond my experience. I want to be able to write the contents of the text boxes to a file.txt (the easy part) then being able to retrieve them back out into individual text boxes. How would I pull this one off?

After adding the new row, m_table is correct. However, DVGCusClient not only adds this row, but also adds two additional blank rows at the bottom. I have no idea where these two blank rows come from. I'm using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition and I was just wondering if someone could help me out with a few things? I'm making a Notepad-type program just to clarify things.1. I have a button which adds text to my RichTextBox1 (excuse the name), but when you click it it adds text to the end of the script. I want to make it so the text is added where your "cursor" (the blinking thing which lets you know where you're typing) is, at the current part of RichTextBox1. At the moment I'm using:

2. I have a Save As button and a Save button. When you click Save As and save the file it works 100%, when you click Save and you haven't saved previously then it works 100%, but after you have saved the file and then click save it doesn't overwrite the file. Here's the code for Save:

I don't know if you can tell what I am trying to do here, so I will try to explain. I what to create for random numbers and place them into for different text boxes. I also would like to do this with combo boxes and their selected indexes. So if the combo box has 10 items in it; the new selected index would be the random number generated above.

This involves the customer giving the employee information such as name, address, postcode etc and the employee inputting that information into text boxes and combo boxes that are in the application.
What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.

Im trying to keep a running total within a text box. The code I am using is
RunningTotal.Text = Txtbox1.Text + RunningTotal.Text
WHen I do this, RunningTotal.text only adds the content from txtbox1 onto the end, so I end up with something like " 1.50, 1.50".
Every time I hit Add, i just get another 1.5o added onto the end of the existing 1.50, 1.50.
