OpenFileDialog And SaveFileDialog?

Mar 6, 2012

My users need to browse to select a file and then save it to a different location. Here's my code I've got so far - it incorporates the OpenFileDialog to open the file and the SaveFileDialog to save the file. When the code goes into the OpenFileDialog portion, it works great....the initial directory is set to "C:" This is where the user will select the file they want to save to another location.

Thumbnail View In OpenFileDialog / SaveFileDialog?

Jan 25, 2008

Having searched long and hard I came up with nothing to solve this problem. It appears that no body could give me any direction on how to default an Open Dialog box to what ever view type I desired. It was after several fruitless hours that I changed my way of thinking and started to look if this had been accomplished in any other language other than VB.that is when I stumbled on some code in C# written by Robert Rohde (German I think the original code can be found at [url]I have rewritten his code to be VB2005 compliant and It works a treat, so for all those (who like me) couldnt find how to complete this very simple yet so difficult to achieve task I present the code put this first section into a class called FileDialogExtender

Trick Lambda Expression In VB

Fitch Cheney's 5 Card Trick?

Apr 2, 2012

My program is a card trick based off Fitch Cheney's 5 card trick. There will be 5 cards. I would like the computer to randomly generate 4 cards to show to the user. The user has to guess what the last card is based off Fitch Cheney's rules. It might be easier to google Fitch Cheney's 5 card trick because it is very complicated to explain. If someone could help me figure out a formula, I would be grateful. Right now, I have organized the cards into an array where card(1,1) = "ace of hearts" and so on. But I would like to get the formula figured out first before I move too far ahead .

Way To Trick Compiler For Base Type Like Integer, Long?

May 10, 2010

I'm trying to find a way to trick the compiler into exposing lines of code where the default "ToString" method of Integers, Longs, Doubles, DateTimes, etc. is being used. These are lines of code that must be reviewd for culture specifics. FxCop does not expose these areas when .ToString is not used explicity in the code.Putting a class in with something like the following freaks it out

Namespace system

Use Of Option Strict And Option Infer

Feb 22, 2011

1. I have read that keeping Option strict on and Option infer off is good practice and will insure your code is tight and properly written. I would like input regarding this, pro's and con's from those who are in the know.

2. Having said that, I have set Option strict on and Option infer off in an existing program I wrote (that was working perfectly mind you) with them off and on respectively. I went through and cleaned up all the errors on the 'need AS' and casting of variables, but one is leaving me a bit put out.[code]

I have also read where using My.Computer.System.Directory.GetFiles() instead of System.IO.Directory.GetFiles() is probably not a good thing, but when I change to this I get no error, but also no dataI am thinking I should stay with the strict on and infer off but am really slogging through getting this code correct.Running Win7 on Dual Quad Core XEON Intel Extreme with 8Gb RAM.

Writing The Save Option - Code Up The Save Menu Option So That It Updates The Current Document?

Option Explicit Off, Option Infer On, "Name Xxxx Is Not Declared"?

Using VS2008, targetting framework 3.5, trying to update some VB4 code. Yes, VB4.I have a bunch of legacy code I'm trying to update, and I had the idea of trying to work through it by executing the old code, working out what was causing each error as I came to it, solving the problem, and then moving on.In order to do this, I have sinned and set Option Strict Off, Option Explicit Off and Option Infer On.Yes, I'm going to hell for this.Problem is, I'm still getthing errors that various things haven't been declared. All of these the items showing errors are in the form: itemName(obj)Is my problem that the compiler thinks that these are method calls for methods which haven't been declared?PS: For anyone wanting to tell me not to use these settings, I already know

Getting SaveFileDialog Error

Apr 14, 2010

This code works on my local machine (Windows 7 Ultimate). When I tried it on WindowsXP,it didn't even open the dialog, instead it gave me an Unhandeled Exception error.

I can't remember the specific details of the error, but I do recall my profesor telling me there could be something wrong with permissions(me being the ONLY user on my machine, and his machine having multiple user accounts).

But what does all that have to do with opening the SaveFileDialog?

Could it be that SaveFileDialog1.AutoUpgradeEnabled = True is causing the problem?

Savefiledialog 1.1 To 2.0 Conversion?

May 25, 2010

I have an .net 1.1 framework application I would like to update to 3.0 framework (or at least 2.0), but I've just run into a real problem. The savefile dialog code which works fine in 1.1 does not work in 2.0 and up. Line for line the code is the same (thereis no difference in line numbers at all). I'm baffled. With the exception of throwing an error for the Quicktime 7 control, VS2008 indicated no errors in converting 1.1I open my 1.1 (VS 2003) version and step through line-by-line. Works as advertised.I open my 2.0 (VS 2008) version and step through line-by-line. Appears to be working, dialog opens fine, I enter a filename, code continues; but when complete, there is no file in the folder.I'm wondering if the problem lies in the block of code for the small XML file I'm writing.

Imports System.IO
Public Class Form1
Private fn As String
