How To Access SharePoint And Make Backups Of Files

May 4, 2011

I'm coding an application in VB express 2005 and want to access a sharepoint and make backups of several files I keep there. How to access a folder in a sharepoint, copy some files in it, and then paste these in a different folder inside the same sharepoint? I am working on a windows XP so can't install Sharepoint Services 3.0, as it requires windows server 2003.

Connection String Of Ms Access Database In Sharepoint

Jun 5, 2011

I will be developing a program using visual studio 2008 with ms access 2007 as my database. What I only use is this type of connection string: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:mydatabase.mdb;Jet OLEDB:System Database=system.mdw;" but i was asked if it is possible to put the database in sharepoint and I haven't even tried it before. The case is like this, the program that i will do would be installed on some computer units of different branches of the company then the database should be accessible through sharepoint so that every users can access the most updated database.

Update Records In An Access Table Linked To A SharePoint List From VB?

Jan 23, 2012

I am writing a small program to update data in a SharePoint list. Now where I cannot develop or use applications for SharePoint unless I am on a SharePoint server, I thought I would cheat the system by using Access to link to SharePoint lists, and then use Visual Basic to play with the Access tables. I need additional functionality other than what VBA can provide me, so that is why I am using the VB layer. Is it possible that this is not permitted? Whenever I try to update an item in the table, I receive the message:

"cannot update '(expression)'; field not updatable"

The word 'expression' here is not a filler I added, this is the actual error. If I try to make the edit manually in the table using Access, it works fine (I haven't tried it through Access VBA yet...).

How my code works is this:I have a Dataset added to the project which connects to the Access database. I add one of the tables to the dataset and create a Class object to reference the table adapter (essentially a Data Access Layer). I can read all of the data fine, and when a change is made in SharePoint, my application sees the updates when it refreshes. But when I try to write back to the table I get the error message above.

For
Each r As
DataRow In TableAdapter.GetData.Select("Name LIKE '*" & FileName &
"*'")

[code]....

There are other columns in the table and some of them have default null values. I only want to update these two fields, but it almost seems like this is not possible. I thought I might be somehow opening the Dataset in a Read Only mode, but I can't seem to find that option anywhere.

VS 2008 Connecting To A Sharepoint List Linked Table In Access 2007

Apr 30, 2011

First timer here, I love the site!

Running:

- VS 2008
- Sharepoint 3.0
- Access 2007
- Windows Vista (The machine I'm developing it from)

History: (Do excuse me if I don't reference different methods I've taken so far correctly, I'm still learning!) I am building some search software for a law firm that I work for in Australia. It's all coming along really well, but I seem to have hit a snag getting data out of sharepoint lists and into my project!

I first attempted to add a web reference to sharepoint and after a while was able to pull in all of the data from the lists, fantastic!(OR NOT!). The issue then was when I attempted to load it up into an array using XMLNodes, whilst it loaded up fine and I could see all the data, if there was a null value in one of the columns, it wouldn't pull that null value across, therefore, I couldn't really use the data...

VB Directory Structure For Backups

My technical background has enabled me to learn and code a VB application quickly, but I am not familiar with the "guts" of Microsoft Studio.I want to back up my application in the event of a disc failure, but what needs to be backed up?I see that the directory structure has a in and an obj subdirectory. Do I just need to backup everything below the directory level above these two?

Importing All Files In A Folder (all Excel Files) Into A Single Table In An Access Database

Aug 23, 2011

I am trying to import a bunch of excel 2003 files all with A:H columns and they are under the same headings etc. into a table in access 2003 database. This is a module in access im making. Im using a file search to look for every file that begins with Format (which they all do ) to get at all the files in the folder path. is there a more efficient way to do this? somehow select all files in a folder? and import each to the same table in access? The DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet seeems to take each file path individually so I'm not sure how to get each file name in the folder to import it.

I have this at the moment:

Sub Import()
Dim db As Database
Set db = CurrentDb

VS2010 .NET And Windows 7 Access Denied On Writing To Or Creating Files In Project Files Folder?

May 22, 2012

Ok I know this question has been asked to death but I still have not seen a good answer. I have created an application in VS2010 using VB.NET. In my application I have an error log that is an XML file located in the Public gstLocalErrorLogLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "ErrorLog"that gets written to in the event of an error so I can trouble shoot application easier. My application also downloads files from our FTP site and puts the files in Public gstLocalDownloadLocation As String = Application.StartupPath & "download"So I have files that get read and written to as well and created and deleted all in the Application.StartupPath which is either "c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" or "c:Program Files (x86)(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File)" depending on 32bit or 64bit Windows 7.

After creating the setup I install it on my test machine that have both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.Everything in the application works great till I have to write to, delete or creat a file in those directories above. I know it is an access issue and the UAC. This will get installed on numerous systems so the options I have seen to change file or folder permission on the computers manually is not an option. What has to happen is after I install the application it just works like when you install it on XP. Some post have suggested that you us a user with administrator privilages or group which is all fine and dandy but the user I have used to test the application has all of that.

So what I am asking is how do you create an application with VS2010 in VB.NET that after creating a setup package and installing on Windows 7 will just work with out "Access to the path c:Program Files(Application Directory)(Some Directory)(Some File) is denied." If I have to install this on 100 Windows 7 computers it has to be a concreate no manually doing anything just install and work like when we installed on XP.

SharePoint RoleAssignment Won't Add?

Oct 19, 2011

I am trying to manipulate SPListItem permissions on folders in a document library but I can't seem to add any new permissions, though removing security inheritance works beautifully.I've done my best to create a slimmed down version of the code for testing purposes. The function GetListItem returns the SPListItem we are working with based on the URL. The item.BreakRoleInheritance(False) works great and I've verified properly breaks inheritance and clears out any permissions, I've also tried it with the True flag and verified that all original permissions are copied from the parent.

The code below throws no exceptions and as far as I can tell appears to work fine, until I check the actual permissions on the folder in my document library and see that "Viewers" is not listed.

.net - Sharepoint + VSTO Deployment?

Jul 21, 2009

I've developed a Word template in VSTO. When published it consits of several files including a Setup.exe, several msi files etc.Due to the fact that my company's security policy won't allow me to store dlls and exes on the server I need an alternative way to provide all the necessary stuff to the end user. I thoght it would be enough if I:

1) execute the setup.exe file on each client machine (it says everything got properly installed)

2) upload the xxx.dotm file to sharepoint and register it

3) edit policy settings

but it doesn't. When a user creates a new Document inside sharepoint using "New"->"xxx" the requested document loads without any error message and show the document but Word won't load any extensions / ribbons etc.

Sharepoint Form Layout In VB?

Mar 8, 2009

OKay, I'm from a PHP background, but I've just been tasked with developing some custom Web Parts in SharePoint. I've figured out how to create and deploy a basic "Hello world" web part in VB. Okay so far.

how do I lay out things in a VB web part?

For an example, here's a label and a textbox:

protected overrides sub createchildcontrols()
mybase.createchildcontrols
dim mylabel as new label

[Code].....

How would I, for example, get mylabel and my textbox to appear on different lines, rather than running one after the other as they do now? In PHP I'd just wrap them in some top break them onto differnt lines, but how do I do it here?

.net - Persisting Sharepoint EditorPart Settings

Inheriting from the System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.EditorPart class I have been shown that it is possible to expose a public property in your VisualWebPart that when updated through the EditorPart will be automagically persisted in sharepoint.

The problem I have run into is saving strings and integers works great but when I attempt to persist the value of a collection such as List<String> the object is not saved.

The code looks like this.

Public Class MyCustomEditorPart
Inherits EditorPart
Public Overrides Function ApplyChanges() As Boolean
