I've got a panel - that's in a group box. All of this - with lots of other textboxes on labels - is in another panel (the big panel).I make the big panel visible and not visible based on selections made by the user. This small panel - that's in the group box. I cannot seem to make it appear.Even if I leave it VISIBLE at design time - the objects in it will not appear. Is there some kind of nesting problem that I'm not aware of!

I'm having an odd problem when making a form visible and not visible and it not continuing to function. Here is what I have happening. I have a main form (frmMain) that is an MDIParent. On this form I have a menu to open a second form (frmCalculate) and populate a listview from Items in the database.
As I click or select items in the listview on frmCalculate the tag is read and data is pulled based on the id stored in that tag and fills in various fields on the form. This works great. However, I also have a context menu attached to the listview that allows me to perform a "what if" scenerio on the items I am calculating. When I select this menu, I hide the frmCalculate and open the frmWhatIf form where I can mess around with values on the item I had hilighted in the listview on frmCalculate. Nothing is pulled from or written back to the database here, all the information is filled in from fields on frmCalculate. It just allows me to look at rising costs and how they will affect my margins.... anyway.
If I then close frmWhatIf, it brings my frmCalculate back by setting its visible propery to true (never closed frmCalculate, just hid it). At this point if I click an item in the listview I get an exception for a null reference. IF however I never hide frmCalculate, I can open and close frmWhatIF without ever having an issue. Why do I lose the functionality to select items just by hiding and unhiding the form? As a test I added two menus to the toolbar on frmMain one called hide and one called show. I then opened frmCalculate with original menu item to populate the listview and selected a few items to test that it was working and then using the hide menu I made the form invisible and the show button to bring it back. This yielded the same exception so without even opening frmWhatIf the problem still occurs.

I have a Windows Form frmMain() holding seven more-or-less unrelated UserControls, ucFlopsy", "ucMopsy", "ucCottontail", etc...I say "more-or-less" because each of the seven UC has three similar public read/write properties:
IsLocked (a boolean indicating if the following two properties are "Locked")
IsLockedID (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedID is an integer)
IsLockedName (if IsLocked=True then IsLockedName is a string)

I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.
How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.

I have two UserControls on a MasterPage. DataEntryUC contains several TextBoxes and DropDownList. NavSaveUC contains navigation buttons. When the user clicks on a navigation button, I will be saving the data entered into DataEntryUC from the NavSaveUC UserControl.
I have a couple of tables in my DB that contain stored procedure names, control names, control types, SqlDbTypes, etc.... that correlate with DataEntryUC.
How do I reference a text box that is on DataEntryUC from NavSaveUC?
I have been working on the following code from NavSaveUC with no luck.
Dim MyControlName = "txtFirstName"
Dim MyControlType = "TextBox"
Dim MyStringValue as String

I have a usercontrol that has a main form and calls another form within the usercontrol to get some data from a database that allows the user to select some items from a CheckedListBox control on the sub form. I want to pass the selected items from the CheckedListBox back to the main form and display the results there. I have a public property called DBList of type List(of String) on the main user control. If I create a reference to the usercontrol form the second form within the usercontrol I get a new instance of a user control. All I want to do is set the property on the usercontrol and close the secondary form. How do I reference the usercontrol from the form within the usercontrol?
Code in UserControl:
Public Property DBItems() As List(Of String)
Get
Return DBItems

I have placed several PictureBox Images of different colored dots(which represent lights) on an image of a Christmas Tree. I can make the lights randomly flash using a randomGenerator and a Select case statement. However, the code is very long. There are 67 lights on this tree and the code is 71 pages long. There has to be an easier way to do this. So far I have tried the following with two images of lights just to see if it would work and it does not work:
Dim picLight(2) As
Boolean
For intX

I just discovered the joys of UserControl's and I was wondering if it is possible to populate the usercontrol with data from a database in the UserControl's Form.Load event instead of the form the userControl is placed on. I feel it would make using the control a lot easier if it just populated itself without anymore code.I tried it with a ListView but it gave me a bunch of errors, so I didn't know if it had to be done a certain way or if it was just one of those things that doesn't work no matter what.

I'm getting desperate here trying to find the problem, and I don't know where to start looking for it.
Here are the symptoms:I've noticed, that when a user logs on in the morning, he is then immediately logged off, then when he logs on again, everything is fine and he can work on the site.
Every once in a while, when the user clicks a link, the page takes a lot of time to load, but it never actually loads, and the user is thrown to the login page. Also, after an Exception has occurred in the website, the user is then thrown to the login page. It's as if the exception clears somehow the session.

I have inherited a ASP.net site, and I've made some changes too to some of the VB code and CSS, and have hosted it on a FTP. It uses an SQL DB to allow users to log in and calls stored procedures. The site complies with no errors, and allows me to log in as a user, and can works perfectly on testing. However, once uploaded to the FTP, it no longer allows me to log in as a user. It hangs for a while, and then returns a message saying that the password is wrong, despite it being correct. It doesn't throw an error message, and I think I've narrowed it down to something to do with the Web.config file, but I'm at a loss as how it's not working, especially with the lack of error messages being thrown.[code]

I was wondering is there a way anyone knows of to "inject" a logger into an application such that it passively monitors the thread and quietly logs processes as they occur without having to do things like: [Code] It would then monitor everything that goes on inside of that method including passed in arguments along with method calls and values passed into those methods, exceptions that occur etc. Has anyone implemented something like this in the past? Could it even be implemented? Is logging in this fashion just a pipe dream?

I have a class for serial communications (call it CSerial), based on a property value (CSerial.LogLevel), I'd like to produce various levels of logging information about data sent and received to the serial port.Given that it's a reusable class, there's no way of telling whether the log data should be sent to the console, a text box, a file, etc. This would be determined by the application using the class, so I can't write all of the different output options into a method in the class.Question:What's the best way to implement this? I have some ideas:1. Create a Log method and then "override" it in my main application to handle the most suitable form of output? Can I "override" a method as part of an instance? Or do I need to create a new class that inherits my original one, override the method there and then create an instance of my new class?

I've been assigned to start a new Logging Project from zero in VB.NET.The final exit of the main project is information organized in paragraphs like this:
[code]...
Every paragraph correspond to a database connection. Every connection is made with an entire diferent database.i need my logging project to save everything the user does, so the logging exit would be like the system exit but with exceptions and other important information like this: Paragraph's title 1 Paragraph's content 1.Paragraph's title 2 User wasn't able to see this information because an exception ocurred: System.WhateverException:couldn't connect to WCF.as you can see the exit is the same but i need to create a detail log because the information is delicate and the DBA needs to now wich user did what and what was the response of the system. Also i need it to be and independant project so i can re-use it in another projects. Seeing the final exit of both the main project and the logging project, what would you recommend me to use for logging in .NET?

We have a current implementation of a log file manager where it's two main purposes are to 1. rename files generated by other programs with a date/time stamp so they create new ones, and 2. delete files older then X amount of days from a specified folder. The program also makes it's own log file which records when these events happen.Do you think the Logging Application Block would be useful in this instance? The old file manager is written in VB 6.0 and an upgrade to VB .Net would not take too long, but is it worth it to try and implement LAP into it?

Timer1.tick
textbox1.text = textbox1.text + loggedips.
Or something similar is fine also. After that I want the logs to be saved into a txt file, (I can do this part)Then the user will enter a new site to be logged. Once that is done that will also be saved into a txt file. Etc....Then finally if any IPS that are the same show up in the text files then the user will get that IP in a textbox.

I just got finished watching a short video on logging using some of the built in concepts in Visual Studio 2005. This seems to do a good job. My question is why do people look for other solutions to logging such as Enterprise Library or Log4Net when there is a simple solution out of the box?
The video I watched primarily used the following for logging.
Code: My.Application.Log.WriteEntry(sb.ToString, type)
