I'm a beginner VB.Net programmer using VS 2008.I'm planning a new winform project whose main form should look more or less like this:
[Code]...
The user can either choose from the Main Menu (by clicking an item) or enter the item number in the textbox. For example, if the user clicks DoSomething3 in the Main Menu (or alternatively enters 3 in the textbox), another form will be opened and hide the main form. What would be the best way to implement it?Specifically, I would like to know how I make so that choosing from the menu and entering a number in the textbox fire the same event.
I'm creating a basic window's application where I have a login screen where the user will enter the userid/password etc. Only problem is when I try to run the application, it goes straight to the main menu. What would give the main menu precedance over the login screen?
im writing a room booking application, and after i've entered all the details for a booking, which looks like this;
'Declare Variables Dim sUser As String Dim sRoom As String[code].....
and now the problem is, its not working , its all going through ok and im not getting any run time errors. But the booking details arent being shown in the main menu screen.
I have a project (Written in Visual Basic, using Visual Studio 2005) which has several user controls. I have had no problem setting it up where you click a button and it load a user control, but I cannot get it to remove the control that is currently open. For example The program opens on a starts screen, which has the choices, Control1, Control2, and exit. When you click Control1 button it should open up a screen to display an inventory. It does this just fine, but it does not close the main menu screen.
Here is the code for the initial startup of the project: Public Class Form4 Public Sub Form4Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Dim CtrlMain As New ControlMain() With CtrlMain .Location = New Point(0, 0 [Code] .....
I have made quite a nice and tidy little game. Its based around space invaders and works quite well. however because i have finished my college project almost 2 weeks ahead of the assignments release date, my tutor has asked me to tweak my project and make it better. So far i have added a full main menu to the game and a full splash screen. I would like to add in a section for recorded high scores but have no idea how to attempt this at all.
My app works fine on the development machine and 3 other machines. However, some machines just show the main login box and then fail to show the main screen. There is no error message. I installed VS 2008 express on on of such machines and when i compile the project, the following errors appear:
Type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access.Application' is not defined. Type 'dao.DBEngine' is not defined.
I have been given a VB project by a collegue to import into visualstudio professional to add a setup project to. The project was originally a 2003 projet I don't konw which version, VB express 2003 possibly, then imported into vb express 2008 and now professional 2010.
The problem is every time I rebuild the project without doing anything else the main form changes its size. It shrinks in height by about 40. hit build again and it shrinks again.
what this might be and can it be fixed or will I have to create a brand new project and import the source files with all the risk that that entails.
I have a main form that reference to a dll. Inside the dll is also a form that will add additional menu in the main form that calls it. How can I do that?
i have a main menu and when the program and launched the contents are cleared then a few items are added before loading in all the favorite websites and such. I'm trying to find the code to inset a separator after the items i have defined are inserted.[code]
Im trying to play a mp3 on my main menu for my game however its not playing... ive tried hardcoding the file to the desktop, inserting the file into the solurtion explorer and even declaring it its own sub?I just want the file to play when the form loads up?
I am trying to build a program that has a Dropdown menu (Combobox) where you select between a list of items like
xbox ps2 ps3 wii
then once you select one of the options the program will bring you to a new window (In the same window) with a new box that has a list depending on which word you chose earlier. As an example.
If you chose xbox on the first window it will bring you to a window with a new list like
fighting game 2009 fighting game 2010 fighting game 2011
then if you select fighting game 2011 you would get another window that showed a list that had a list of characters from that game.
Guy One Funny Hat Guy Big Nose Guy Dead Guy Beast Thing Funny Turtle Thing
Then in the new window you get a selection of options for the character you selected.
Special Skills Combo Moves Unlockable Content
Then if you select one of those you get a new window that has the lists. for example.
If you chose Special Skills show the list of special skills like the following.
Uppercut: Down + Y Face Smasher: Back, Forward, B
and maybe beside the list of moves it could display an image of a Screen shot that shows the move (Or not if it is too complicated).
I am working on building a CMS, my client's specific request was that he should be able to modify/edit the nav menu and its contents using the user interface, I am not sure how to do it.
providing links to articles where I can learn? or even examples that I can implement?
Site2you.com has a template that can be edited pretty easily but I am not sure how they did it
How to add a file history to my Main Menu. I open my windows application and select a txt file to open called "File 1". Later I open "File 2" and "File 3". I have now closed the windows application. A day later I open my windows application again. How do I view the recent files selected to my FILE menu? For example, I would expect to see "File 1", "File 2", and "File 3" under recent files. This would allow the user to easily reference the past recent files that were opened. Word and Excel have the feature and I am sure it can be done in VS2005.
I have a main form that is set to be an MDI Container (IsMDIContainer - True). I have a number of child forms to that parent. When I first display a child (Maximized and .Dock= DockStyle.Fill) in the MDI Window, all is fine, but if I click the maximize button to bring the child down into the MDI window, then click the maximize button again to dock it again, the size of my menu in the main form doubles. I have that main menu setting "Allow Merge = False."
Any way I can set parent of the MainMenu control? I don't want to use other controls because there is no windows 7 or vista style as in picture. Other controls have just ugly blue and white color. When I add MainMenu it sets position on top of the form. I want to set MainMenu Parent to one Panel. Other controls have just ugly blue and white color.
I have an application that contains a MDI Form as the main screen. In the text field of the form, I am trying to display the version of the application using the following syntax:[code]Using the above code, it always looks like 1.0.0.0 when in reality I'm on version 1.0.0.6. What am I doing wrong?
I'm trying to make a main menu which accepts user input and then checks inputted password for validity against passwords I hardcoded into an array. Firstly, in the for loop, only the first password index is being checked. I'd like the inputted password to be checked against EACH password inside the ValidPasswords() array.
Second, My for loop isn't doing what I want it to do. I'd like to give the user 3 chances to enter a password... If he/she exceeds 3, it tells them they've tried 3 times and exits the form. Right now, it just loops 3 times and exits without giving the user a chance to try again. If I put a return statement in, it just keeps returning and doesn't loop 3 times.
Public Class frmMain Dim ValidPasswords() = {"1234", "2222", "8918", "9911"} 'Dim ValidPWList As New List(Of String)
I am new to VB, I am currently trying to make a basic Lottery application for me and a few friends. I have a couple of questions regarding that. Basically the reqs are:
1) we should be able to input for 2 lotteries (super 7 and pick 3) the amount of money spend individually. IN a separate menu Should be able to input the winning numbers for past draws, in a notepad or access. 2) Should be able to see the most picked 3 numbers in the previous draws for both the lotteries.
Question. Say I have menu entries: Lotteries- Pick 3 and Super 7. This is my main form. If I go pick 3, enter last draw numbers should it open up a new form or can I just repaint and work in the same form?
Hello.. I'm using a splash screen for the first time in an exercise. I have it set up to display the splash screen before going to the main form. I made changes to the splash screen title and copyright information. When I execute the program, the splash screen comes up but it's not displaying the information I changed. When I view the splash screen the changes are saved. It displays the project name where the application name should be.
I've created a windows form application in vb 2010. I've got all my forms complete and now want to add a Login screen. One the login screen, after the username/password is entered and OK is pressed, I try to open the a connection string. Obviously if the connection fails, the user has entered the incorrect credentials. If the credentials are ok, True is returned and I then open up the Main form that shows the correct items for the logged in user.
I 'm running a multithreaded VB.NET program. After running a particular task in the environment I'm displaying a MessageBox to indicate that the task is complete. Everything works fine, sending data, receiving data, displaying the data, etc. When I display the MessageBox and I click outside the MessageBox, the MessageBox goes behind my Main Screen.
I am wanting to build a menu from multiple xml files in a central location this will be to help with adding crystal reports after application has been deployed to an end user.I am able to get the list of all the xml files in a folder it is just the adding the ReportName to the different menu buttons i have set up.
Dim dirs As String() = Directory.GetFiles(Application.StartupPath & "Reports", "*.xml") Dim dir As String For Each dir In dirs Dim xe As XElement = XElement.Load(dir)Next
I am trying to build a nice-looking menu that allows users to select certain items. When they hover over the items, a nice highlight color fades in and then out when they leave the item. Anyways, it looks very nice, but I don't want to have to use a "page" style. (e.g., page 1 contains 6 items, click "Next" to go to the next page of 6 itesm) I'd like to allow the user to scroll through the items. I'll develop my own GUI for the scrollbar, however I have absolutely no idea where to start on actually fitting all of the items into like a 400x200 box, and allowing the user to scroll up and down through the items. The items are actual controls (e.g. each item contains a picturebox, a couple of labels, a couple of buttons collectively).
I added a new application recently and I find there is no Configuration Manager. I went to Tools-->Settings and checked Expert Settings, but Configuration Manager does not show up in the Build Menu. It only shows Build Project and Publish Project. I also tried to add Configuration Manager to the tool bar - it was added, but it is grayed out.
I'm trying to get the compiler Configuration Manager to show up. By the way, all of my 8 other VB 2010 Express projects have a Configuration Manager option in the build menu. However, none of those 8 projects were started as a new application in VB2010 - they were all conversions of old VB6 applications (first converted with VB2008, and then with VB2010).
current version is 2008 I'm trying to build an application with a simple MENU. When the user clicks on a Menu Item i want the container to show some controls, now when the user clicks another Menu Item, the container needs to change and show other controls, and so on with every menu Item the user clicks, one at a time.
I thought of panels showing and hiding for every menu Item clicking, but that would use a lot of memory as ALL the controls would be created, some of them just not showing. I also though of an MDI application, but i dont want multiple forms (with the menu bar) opening inside one form. I just want the actual container of one form to change.
I publish a VisualBasic 2008 windows application, from the Build menu, but when I install it by running the installation's setup.exe, an unusual popup window showing Windows connected to the Internet pops momentarily, and then the application opens and runs. But the application's .exe is not in Start > Programs, or on the desktop, or anywhere.Publishing and installation worked perfectly a few weeks ago.
I have a button in Main screen, which calls A.exe when you pressed on it. Process.Start("A.exe"). If I exit from Main, how can I make sure A.exe is closed too? Application.Exit in Main doesnt seems to work.
