Any way I can set parent of the MainMenu control? I don't want to use other controls because there is no windows 7 or vista style as in picture. Other controls have just ugly blue and white color. When I add MainMenu it sets position on top of the form. I want to set MainMenu Parent to one Panel. Other controls have just ugly blue and white color.

Is there a way to do that in design time? I cannot find anything on the property tab. The reason i want to set it on design time is because my project will have a motherload of buttons and it will a pain to code the parent change....

This is being called on button click when the user has finished selecting from the Checkboxlist.
When the parent page is shown again though the textbox is empty.
The scenario of my user control is that a user is to select from a checkbox list which is a list of emails.
When done has been clicked then it is required that the selected emails be forwarded to the parent webpage.
Then the To Textbox in this case will be filled with the emails that the user has selected.
I open a context menu by right clicking it.
It stays open when the cursor leaves it.
I click a main menu item.
The drop down opens at the top left of the screen.
Not under the main menu item I clicked.

The Parent has a Tool Strip and on the tool strip is a button that when clicked loads the child, this works fine.But when I set the child form to maximize its title-bar jumps over the Parent tool strip. Pushing it down a bit. I do what this. I would like the child to be completely contained within the Parent including the Parent forms tool strip.

Why does it not work on the child textbox, but works very well on the non-child one(focus on textBox2 then click on the panel removes the focus from the textBox2)?

The user can either choose from the Main Menu (by clicking an item) or enter the item number in the textbox. For example, if the user clicks DoSomething3 in the Main Menu (or alternatively enters 3 in the textbox), another form will be opened and hide the main form.What would be the best way to implement it?Specifically, I would like to know how I make so that choosing from the menu and entering a number in the textbox fire the same event.

View 1 RepliesThis should be fairly basic but maybe the search terms are too general to find relevant answers.I have an MDI form with a conventional toolbar. When I open a small non child form I want to set focus back to this main form so the user can click the help button on the toolbar if necessary.
Tried frmMain.Select() and frmMain.ToolStripButton0.Select() at end of small form load but it doesn't work. The user has to click the help button twice, once to select it and once to open it. A minor problem but annoying.

View 3 RepliesHow to add a file history to my Main Menu. I open my windows application and select a txt file to open called "File 1". Later I open "File 2" and "File 3". I have now closed the windows application. A day later I open my windows application again. How do I view the recent files selected to my FILE menu? For example, I would expect to see "File 1", "File 2", and "File 3" under recent files. This would allow the user to easily reference the past recent files that were opened. Word and Excel have the feature and I am sure it can be done in VS2005.
View 5 RepliesI have a main form that is set to be an MDI Container (IsMDIContainer - True). I have a number of child forms to that parent. When I first display a child (Maximized and .Dock= DockStyle.Fill) in the MDI Window, all is fine, but if I click the maximize button to bring the child down into the MDI window, then click the maximize button again to dock it again, the size of my menu in the main form doubles. I have that main menu setting "Allow Merge = False."

View 1 RepliesMy app has a main form from which the user can set specific 'setup' information for things such as ports and IP addresses, plus it gives them visibility to a table that is used in conjunction with the TCPListener/responder. The program receives a request for information which it gets from the TCPListener, it gets the requested information and sends back the requested information. It all works great, but I need to move it into the background. When the listener starts, the app is basically locked from any user interface (including the ability to close the form and terminate the process).
What I currently have is:
A class called MyTcpListener with a shared sub 'RequestRespond'
From the main form, there is simply a button labeled "START" for the user. When the user clicks on start I call the listener by:
MyTcpListener.RequestRespond(LocalPort)
I have set the Visibility property of the main window to Hidden and added the following in Window_Loaded:

I am looking for a howto or someone expert in ADO.NET who can explain me how to properly solve the following scenario:I have two datatables in a dataset:
ParentTable (ParentID, Name) for user data ChildTable (ParentID, ActivityID, ...) for schedule data
Tables are linked together at the database level by ParentID which is an Identity column in ParentTable.
Both tables are data bound to a separate DataGridView on the GUI. There supposed to be a "1 parent/N children" relationship between the tables, meaning if I create a new entry in the ParentTable (a new user) I get a clean DataGrid in the child grid to type schedule data for the user. So I setup two DataAdapters for each table to fill their result into a DataSet. I also set up a DataRelation object and assign it to the DataSet to link the two tables by their ParentID columns. Also when I add a row into the ChildTable via DataGrid I use SetParentRow to set the parent row.

I can't find a way to change the opacity of a mdi form within it's parent. I can change the parent form's opacity under properties, but can't change the embedded mdi form's opacity under it's properties. Opacity = 0.5 doesn't change the opacity of the mdi... works fine for the parent form. I was hoping that the embedded mdi forms functions would still be independent of the parent in order for me to change it's opacity.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to make a main menu which accepts user input and then checks inputted password for validity against passwords I hardcoded into an array. Firstly, in the for loop, only the first password index is being checked. I'd like the inputted password to be checked against EACH password inside the ValidPasswords() array.
Second, My for loop isn't doing what I want it to do. I'd like to give the user 3 chances to enter a password... If he/she exceeds 3, it tells them they've tried 3 times and exits the form. Right now, it just loops 3 times and exits without giving the user a chance to try again. If I put a return statement in, it just keeps returning and doesn't loop 3 times.

I am new to VB, I am currently trying to make a basic Lottery application for me and a few friends. I have a couple of questions regarding that. Basically the reqs are:
1) we should be able to input for 2 lotteries (super 7 and pick 3) the amount of money spend individually. IN a separate menu Should be able to input the winning numbers for past draws, in a notepad or access.
2) Should be able to see the most picked 3 numbers in the previous draws for both the lotteries.
Question. Say I have menu entries: Lotteries- Pick 3 and Super 7. This is my main form. If I go pick 3, enter last draw numbers should it open up a new form or can I just repaint and work in the same form?
I want to use the same menu shortcut keys in a MDI child as in the parent...the problem is that the parent seems to receive the Event first and is calling his menu entry. The child (though it does have the focus) does never receive any event whatsoever...I can bypass this behaviour by adding a Textbox to the Menu, and the moment that one has the focus the menu shortcuts are working as expected (child gets it first, after that it's passed through to the parent).

im writing a room booking application, and after i've entered all the details for a booking, which looks like this;

and now the problem is, its not working , its all going through ok and im not getting any run time errors. But the booking details arent being shown in the main menu screen.
I have a project (Written in Visual Basic, using Visual Studio 2005) which has several user controls. I have had no problem setting it up where you click a button and it load a user control, but I cannot get it to remove the control that is currently open. For example The program opens on a starts screen, which has the choices, Control1, Control2, and exit. When you click Control1 button it should open up a screen to display an inventory. It does this just fine, but it does not close the main menu screen.

i have a Janus grid, which has two columns and the rows are organized in a hierarchical order i.e. parent and child rows. One of the columns in the grid is grouped (by dragging the column in the group by box above the grid). I have a cell-changed event that is fired when a cell content is changed. I do this in the cell-changed event:[code]If i change the value, in a parent row, of the grouped column then the child rows are set to Nothing. After the last line in the above snippet, child rows of row are set to Nothing. On the other hand, this problem does not occur if i change the value of the other column (which is not in the group by box). The problem occurs only if i group a column and change its value not otherwise.
