My Text Folder is "C: ext"If I m Past Any Text file in This Folder Then My ComboBox Update its Name I want only textfileDont Scared With My Silly Example.?
I am creating a windows service to save current username and logon time in a CSV file. But when I install the service, the file is just created, not details are written to it, and that file is set to read-only mode. what is the problem in my code?
I've been pondering upon my idea on how to create/update a text file using each item in a listbox as lines, but I fail each time. I've searched this forum as well as my friend, Google. Still nothing.
The usual VB way to handle a computationally heavy task is to put it in a background worker thread, while the main thread keeps handling the UI.Say for whatever reason I needed to do this the other way around: the main thread doing the grunt work and the background one updating the UI.Here's what I have so far. The only problem is, while the UI window (Form1) does get redrawn, you can't interact with it, not even move or resize it (the mouse cursor turns to hourglass and won't click).
Public Class ProgressDisplay Private trd As Thread Public Sub New() trd = New Thread(AddressOf threadtask)
[code]....
The client will call it like this (actually in unmanaged c++ over COM but you get the picture):
Dim prog = new ProgressDisplay() DoLotsOfWork(addressof prog.update) ' DoLotsOfWork method takes a callback argument to keep client informed of progress
I would like to implement update to my applications but not in the automated fashion. I would like the user to check for update, through version control in my database, and if there is a newer version, it will automatically shutdown the user's application and run the update (copy and replace files in the users application folder). After the update, it would restart the application for use. I was thinking in creating a .msi for creating and replacing files, still don't know how to create it! My main concern is to be able to implement a proven and correct .Net method for Updating applications. A best practice for deploying and executing updates to my applications.
I Created the setup for my vb.Net appliaction and installed it on the client systems. The application uses MS Access as the database. So i manually added the file to Setup project under its application directory.
I am trying to create a update application for Windows CE.
It will go out on the net to my site and see if there is any new updates but I am having a problem doing that.
Firstly it is working fine if I create it using a 'Windows Application' but as soon as I Copy + Paste the code to my 'Windows CE' app (smart device, windows CE) it comes up with an error.
I am using .net framework 2.0.0 and vb.net 2008
Here is the code which I am using:
Code: Function DownloadFile(ByVal sURL As String, ByVal pProgress As ProgressBar, ByVal Filename As String, ByVal Prefix As String, ByVal Rename As Boolean) As Boolean Dim wRemote As System.Net.HttpWebRequest
I have a datagridview that was bound using the wizard and all the column created that way. So I haven't done any code to bind the datagridview. It will pull the data from the database and dataset just fine. My problem is when I create a new row it won't update the dataset or database. I have tried different ways that I thought it would work in the code and still haven't found a usable way to do it yet. Or if I need to do all my binding and columns through code give me an idea where to start if I have to go that route. This is my first experiences with Datagridview. I normally use comboboxes and textboxes to write to a dataset and database which all work very well.
I am creating a project which needs to update/create/modify etc the registry. I am able to all the things, the problem in which i am stuck is that after editing Registry changed doesnot take place instantly i have to log off/log in to se changes to take place. I am looking for a way to update the registry without logging off and on.
i want to create a system update..When the user clicks on this button will check if a newer version If so, it will ask if it OK to download and approve it will download the file and open it right when the download is complete?
A suite of apps will be using various tables out of the same sql server database.Regardless of which app is being used, the database structure must stay current. (ie:contain all the tables/fields to run any/all of the apps)So, when the user starts any of the apps, it needs to check the database, for the existence of all the tables and fields it needs, then update if necessary.
how do I set up create Insert, Update and Delete commands for your a DataAdapter?I'm using a DataGridView to allow the user to view, change and delete data rows and would like to be able to save any changes made in the grid back to the database. The application is part of one I'm developing for our local school to write reports to report cards for the children.[code]
I have recently released a free application for some game and now I have added a few features 'the public' requested.
I used Inno Setup to create the installer, which works just fine.
Now however, instead of having the ask the user to uninstall the current version, and then reinstall my new version, I want to be able to give the user an Update install exe which they can simply run and it will update the existing application.
One thing I would like is that the users Settings are not changed. So hence the following questions: 1. Where are the Settings stored? I thought it was in the user's Local Settings <Application Name> directory, but I cannot find my application there... I cannot find it in the All Users or Administrator 'accounts' directories either...
2. Are the Settings stored depending on the Version of your application? (Assembly Version / File Version)?
If 2. is true, then obviously changing the Application Version (which is logical in an Updated executable, no?) would also change the Settings back to default..? Can I avoid that?
Finally, is it enough to simply overwrite the executable? What registry 'work' do I need to do, or can Inno Setup do that for me? I am only using one other file which is the SharpZipLib DLL file.
I have implemented the filestream feature of SQL Server 2008 in a VB.Net application. I can insert files, and then retrieve/view them just fine. However, I have huge problems trying to update a file. Eg. The user selects a file from the grid which I execute via process.start. If that file is a .txt file, the user may choose to edit it. In case that happens, I need to save the changed file back to the database. So far I have failed to do that.
What I do, is take the retrieved file, copy it (cause i got some errors about it being used), and then Process.Start it. After that, via .NET filestream, I convert the file to bytes and try to update the record. SQL Profiler and a manual SELECT on the varbinary(max) column tell me that the file is updated properly, but the very next try to retrieve it I get an unchanged file.
After that I also tried to update the file by changing its File-System Version, but the file still wouldn't seem to update. Does Anyone have a code sample of how I can achieve this operation? Like 500 sites on the internet have examples of how to Insert And Retrieve the file, but not a single example on how to update. This is how my second attempt of trying to update the file via the filesystem looks like. The code for inserting/retrieving is very similar and it works properly. [Code]
I am developing an application that Monitors a specific folder for file changes such as modify deletion, update, etc. The only problem I have is , the application doesn't fire up File events.
I have a csv file that needs to be automatically updated on a daily basis. I am writing a vb.net app to accomplish this. However, Im having issues with the entire process.I need to be able to read in a csv file, manipulate the data and then update the existing file. I have dabbled with using the Excel objects but I need some assistance.
i have a simple application which can create/update/delete/search records using Access database. If i add a record, save it, then close the application and run it again and search for that record, it appears. However, when i write some code to my application, nothing to do with the search function, and i run the application the record is not found. For example i added a button to clear the textfields, and when i ran the application the records i have added earlier were not found.
ive been asked to write a program to deal with supply chains (tracking commodities, personnel, etc). I want to create a program that will allow multiple office to run the same software and update their local databases as well as a central database.how to best send the data/ recieve it, and store it so that all offices can see, edit, and store the data both locally, and over the internet.
I create a project using query sql ( Select, Update,Delete,Insert ) in many various way. example by Select with condition ..etc someone work in programing field. tell me that you are not profession in using vb.net , because you have to use OOP instead all of these Sql query. because if you want to make any update on your program after start to work on the Pc you will open your project on design and change the code. but in OOP you will make update on class and then put it as DLL file in the file of program.
I'm making a game in Gamemaker and i'm using VS2010 to create a launcher for it. The launcher works like the Minecraft launcher:
it has to check a file from my server, then compare it to the local file, and if they aren't the same, the launcher has to re-download the game.exe from the server.
This all has to happen when i click play. To make the game start i use Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory & "\game.exe") i've put the game in the solution explorer.
put 'copy to output directory' to 'copy always'. i appareantly had to do that according to a tutorial to launch game.exe. Now, as i've said, i'm quitte new to VS 2010.
I do one project in visual basic 2010.In visual basic 6 project can be make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file using Package and deployment wizard. But in visual basic 2010 express edition does not have Package and deployment wizard.how to make Package and deployment (setup file or install file) file in visual basic 2010 project?
I am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.
So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.
I am trying to create a log file which I am going to use to populate some controls (DataGridView or Treeview). I am trying to figure out if should use text files or XML files to do so. Effectively the log will highlight multiple phases in a client-side app. The log will be written to at various phases when the project is running. The user will always have the options move on to the next phase or save progress and exit the project. As such, I want the log file to highlight how far the user has progressed throught the various phases AND I want the log to highlight varous information from each phase. Whenever the user starts the project, they will be given the option to load existing log files. So the project will have to read these log files and append them where necessary as the user progresses.
I am not sure what the best way to do this is and below is a rudimentary approach using text files. As you can see, the top of the file would have a summary of all the phases and whether or not the user completed each phase. Next each phase would have a data section highlighting what data was stored along the way. I have used a ":" to denote each section. Then within each section I would obviously need to use a delimeter for all my data. So if Phase1 = True, then I would load all the pertinent data from "Phase1:" into the desired control. Can anyone provide an efficient way of doing this and provide some insight as to whether I should use XML instead. The phases my change during development and I am not sure yet which controls I will be using. Does XML provide more flexibility.
In summary I am looking to create, read/write and append log files and populate controls with the data in varous sections of the log file. Example:
