Retrieve Value Of One Column In A Table?

Apr 27, 2010

Here is my problem:I have 2 tables Accounts and Transaction Logs.in Accounts table, it has column "Amount" which is a base amount of an account.and in Trans Logs table, it also has column "Amount" which is additional (add or minus to the base amount) amount of the account.and I don't know how to retrieve that base amount to edit it, then save it back to the table.That means I need to get a value of the right column by using Acc_No to find. I'm using DataSet, by the way.i think it should go like this:

Dim Amount as Decimal
Amount = *the code to retrieve the base amount*
Amount = Amount + txtAmount.Text
*the code to save the new amount back to Accounts table*

Create Table Button Which When Clicked Creates A Table In Sql Server?

Sep 17, 2009

I am working with a Vb.net 2005 application. On the application I have a Create table button which when clicked creates a table in Sql server with the code shown below;

Code: Private Sub BtnCrtTable_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnCrtTable.Click

[Code]...

This is really a pre-defined table and the data is already specified to be inserted to the table. However, my primarily task is to read a flat file which has the data and consider the first line as the column to be column names.

Therefore, initially I created an open dialogue to browse for the text file and store the path such as E:Datafile est.txt, in a TextBox1 visible at run time. Now the task is to change the above "create table" to read the txt file (column names are on the first line) and then create the table in the database.

Sql Server - Copy An Identity Column Into Another Table?

Jun 27, 2009

I have 2 tables that are related,both have identity columns for primary keys and i am using a vb form to insert data into them,My problem is that i cannot get the child table to get the primary key of the parent table and use this as its foreign key in my database.the data is inserted fine though no foreign key constraint is made.I am wondering if a trigger will do it and if so how. All my inserting of data is done in vb.The user wont insert any keys. all these are identity columns that are auto generated. If a trigger is my way out please illustrate with an example.

Asp.net - Create A LINQ Statement Where The Table Name (FROM) And Column Name Is Variable?

May 11, 2012

In my programming task I've gone down a dark alley and wished I hadn't, but there is no turning back now.

I'm building up a SQL statement where the table name, column name and id value are retrieved from query string parameters i.e. ("SELECT [{0}] FROM [{1}] WHERE [Id] = {2};", c, t, id)

But it isn't as bad as it looks, I'm protected: Only authenticated users (i.e. signed in users) can execute the Page_Load I'm checking that both the table and the column exists beforehand (using GetSchema etc.)I'm checking that the Id is an integer beforehand All my tables have Id columns The database connection is reasonably secure
