Yet another adventure in Visual Studio.I have about 500+ drives I want to format using a VB project. The drives are RAW and it's a REAL pain doing all this through windows. Is this even possiable? My test machine has a eSATA extenal port which would make this great if I could have a simple app to just press a button and do a quick format on my test drives
View 7 RepliesI'm returning a database query into a List object and using that list object to fill the X and Y axes of my chart as seen below. (_runData is a "List(of DatabaseTableName)" style Object filled with the results of my query.
Primary_Chart.Series(0).Points.DataBindXY(_runData, "DateTime", _runData, "UPPER_PRESSURE")
My Datetime field is returning as a Serial Number (i.e. 40116.76111) so I want to format the X Axis to display the field more readably. Enter my problem code.

I am using VS 2005 pro and VB.NET. How do you format the DataGridView.DefaultCellStyle.format property for zip codes and phone numbers. I have a zip code and phone number column(s) that I want to be formatted. I have tried a lot of different things:
Zip code: "99999-0000" or "Phone Number: "(999)000-0000" or "(000)000-0000" and the like So far nothing has worked. I can get my date columns formatted correctly, but not these. Can any one give me some examples that work?

All of my regional settings in control panel are set to UK but when I retrieve a date from an SQL database (run from my PC) in my program, it appears in the MM-DD-YYYY format rather than the DD-MM-YYYY format that I expect.
After a bit of troubleshooting I found that this is because of the fact that SQL server always stores its dates in that format - so then when my program reads the data from the database it interprets it as being the US format. How can I convert this to UK format bearing in mind I am working with Date objects not strings?

'If txtRun.Text <> Format("{0:mm:ss}", txtRun.Text) Then
If txtRun.Text <> Format(txtRun.Text, "{0:mm:ss}") Then
Throw New BadTimeException("Please Enter a Correct Time")
End If
Catch BadTimeExceptionParameter As BadTimeException
MessageBox.Show(BadTimeExceptionParameter.Message, "Invalid Time", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
Exit Sub
End Try
Run = Format("{0:mm:ss}", txtRun.Text)
Any way to change the case of a string using the String.Format command. For example, you can do this:
String.Format("{0,50}","My Info")
And it gives it a fixed width string output, I need to allow the user to change the case. All they can pass in is the format "{0,50}" so NO .net functionality, we wrap it up for them. In VB6 you could use a ">" "<" to change the case, surely M$ must have added a way to do this?
I would like to capture a start and end time in format hh:mm.Instantly I thought a datetimepicker would be the most suitable component (see code below)[code]Now I'm unable to find a datetimepicker solution to allow settings of intervals like in the numericupdown control and unable to even set a mindate/maxdate in time format. Does anyone have a solution for these requests? I then thought about using a numericupdown control to capture hh:mm time but I could not find a way of doing this in ONE control rather than two whichwould involve code to ensure only valid hours/min values could be selected i.e. 0 - 23 and 00-59 and other date to string conversion/validation.For such a commonly recorded element I'm surprised to find little in the way of solutions other than third party controls.Does anyone have ideas for a way forward for a control to capture time as hh:mm with interval controls for hours and minutes?
View 4 RepliesI'd like to make a custom control that allows the end user to format the text, similar to an HTML or RichText control. The idea is that it will be static like a label, but allow end user to specify certain tags around words to make them bold, italic, underline, hyperlink, etc, either at design time or runtime. My question more specifically is how to best approach this. My intention is to use GDI+ methods, like DrawString, etc. But my concern is the inefficiency of having to parse the text each Paint cycle to determine which tags are present in order to use the correct font style, etc. I'm not really asking HOW to do this, but more of a hint on which architectural approach to take on this. Maybe there is already some examples of this out there?
