User-Defind Exception / Format TextBox

Oct 1, 2009

I am trying to get a textbox to have a time value of mm:ss. I am trying to make sure that what the user has entered is in the correct format. i.e. If a user enters in 0923 the exception would be thrown. But if 09:23 is entered it would pass through. Below is the code I currently have. I have tried 3 different things and none work. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try
'If txtRun.Text <> Format(txtRun.Text, "{0,mm:ss}") Then
'If txtRun.Text <> Format("{0:mm:ss}", txtRun.Text) Then
If txtRun.Text <> Format(txtRun.Text, "{0:mm:ss}") Then
Throw New BadTimeException("Please Enter a Correct Time")
End If

Catch BadTimeExceptionParameter As BadTimeException
MessageBox.Show(BadTimeExceptionParameter.Message, "Invalid Time", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error)
Exit Sub
End Try

Run = Format("{0:mm:ss}", txtRun.Text)

Exception With String Format?

Apr 11, 2010

I have a routine that exports data to HTML and works 99% of the time but now and again I get an error of Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list on this specific line of the code

savef.WriteLine("<td style=" & Chr(34) & "text-align: left; vertical-align: middle; border: 1px solid; letter-spacing: 0pt; word-spacing: 0pt;" & Chr(34) & "><p>" & sRetMessage & "</span><br /></p></td>", True)

Now sRetMessage is declared and passed as a string and contains approx 5 lines of text with <br /> for each VBNewLine.

What I did notice is on one of the errors I have caught, the last 3 characters on every line are =20 sRetMessage is extracted from a text file and so the contents are out of my control.

why i'm getting this error? If it is the =20 within the string, why should this matter as it has been stored and passed as a string value

Bad Image Format Exception Between 32bit And 64bit Machines

Mar 15, 2012

We have a winforms appliction that has to talk to an AS400. To do this we imported the IBM.Data.DB2.iSeries classes in the Winforms application and have IBM System I Access for Windows on our machines. It must have the System I Access or it will not talk to the AS/400. Everything works fine on my 64bit development machine. It also works fine on the client's 64bit machine. However when we attempt to install it on a 32bit machine we get a Bad Image format exception. We tried making just an x86 installer instead of any cpu but that did not work (same bad image exception).

Catch An Exception And Throw A New Exception Which Wraps The First Exception As An Inner Exception

May 8, 2009

It is possible to catch an exception and throw a new exception which wraps the first exception as an inner exception: [URL] Also, if I call a function and it throws a certain error, but I catch it, will the calling code's catch handler execute? If so, and it is of a higher exception type, is this not wrapping the exception? eg I can throw exception ex of type IndexOutOfRange, log it but rethrow, catch a higher up exception and do something, or I can throw a new exception and wrap an inner exception like:

Empty User.Config File Causes Exception?

Sep 13, 2007

Somehow the User.Config file was corrupted for an instance of my VB .NET app. When access one of my user level config property (My.Settings.MyProp) I get the a ConfigurationErrorsException with the message "Configuration system failed to initialize." I looked at the User.Config file and found that it is empty, it can be opened but there is no XML text contained within.I would like to programmatically fix the file if an exception is seen. When I attempt to use any of my user level properties, I continue to get the same exception. I've tried calling the Reset() but that yeilds the same exception. I then tried Save() to see if it would write out a default version, but it appears to do nothing (the file is not updated). My.Settings appears to be useless at this point. How can I reinitialize the User.Config file to the default config settings without deleting the old file? I would think that there should be some mechanism for restoring this file back to its default. And how can I update/reinitialize the My.Settings instance so that I can access the properties normally?

VS 2008 Exception Handling In User Classes

Apr 27, 2009

I have to get the balance from the web server. Once that is done it will call back into my main app with the result. However, sometime the web server fails for some unknown reason. Could be high volume of traffic or something else. However, I haven't implemented any exception handling in my class. As the app that uses this handles the exception. However, the client has confirmed that when the web server does fail it displays a unhandled exception dialog box. Then they have to click continue to keep using my application. So below I am not sure if I should implement the exception handling in my class.[code]

WPF User Control Is Causing Out Of Memory Exception?

Mar 8, 2010

I have created a windows form based application and I want the form to add a user specified amount of user controls (with textboxes) on to a panel. The user can then click some button and the controls on this panel are cleared and new ones are added. The user does something and the process is repeated. Now, I wanted these textboxes to support spell checking and looked all over for a free solution.

WPF textboxes support spell checking where the ones in regular win forms do not. I thought I would be able to use these WPF textboxes by adding them to an ElementHost object which is, in turn, within a panel. This panel would be a user control.

So, in my application, I would be able to add instances of these user controls onto the form and make use of .NET's spell checking goodness. This actually worked but after using the application for a while, found that the application would eventually freeze on me due to out of memory errors. I have pinpointed the memory errors to these WPF controls since this problem does not happen with normal textboxes.

When the window is opened and the number of controls is specified, this is pretty much how the controls are added:

Dim xOffset As Integer = 0
For i As Integer = 0 To theNumber
Dim myUserControl As New SpecialUserControl()

[Code].....

There are a lot of results on the internet when I tried to find a solution and I'm thinking that the problem I am having is due to the fact that the WPF control is not going away even after clearing the panel. Following this conclusion, I have tried different solutions regarding disposing these controls or setting them to nothing but the memory problem keeps occurring.

Windows - Find Out Where In User Code An Internal .Net Exception Originated?

Feb 27, 2010

I am currently working on an existing Windows Forms application (VB.net), and am busy reworking the exception handling mechanism.Currently, a lot of methods in the code are just surrounded with try/catch block that catches a generic exception and then calls a utility method that just shows the user a messagebox informing him of the error, and then logging it.So in a lot of cases no corrective action is taken and the exception is just logged. I know this probably isn't the best way but that's they way we're gonna have to do it for the near future.Anyway, I wanted to do this in a more generic way, so I hooked up Application.ThreadException and AppDomain.UnhandledException.

This seems to work well, except for one inconvenience. Whenever an error gets thrown from the .net runtime itself, or a 3rd party control, the stacktrace begins there where the exception is thrown in the framework-methods or 3rd party methods (obviously!)But it would be handier if I had an easy way of finding out exactly where these exceptions cross the boundary into my code. I would like an easy way of determining (in Application.ThreadException) where in my own code an exception originated. am aware this information is contained in the Exception.StackTrace property, but I would like an easy way to get to this specific information seeing as the stacktrace property is one huge string.
