Windows - Find Out Where In User Code An Internal .Net Exception Originated?

I am currently working on an existing Windows Forms application (VB.net), and am busy reworking the exception handling mechanism.Currently, a lot of methods in the code are just surrounded with try/catch block that catches a generic exception and then calls a utility method that just shows the user a messagebox informing him of the error, and then logging it.So in a lot of cases no corrective action is taken and the exception is just logged. I know this probably isn't the best way but that's they way we're gonna have to do it for the near future.Anyway, I wanted to do this in a more generic way, so I hooked up Application.ThreadException and AppDomain.UnhandledException.
This seems to work well, except for one inconvenience. Whenever an error gets thrown from the .net runtime itself, or a 3rd party control, the stacktrace begins there where the exception is thrown in the framework-methods or 3rd party methods (obviously!)But it would be handier if I had an easy way of finding out exactly where these exceptions cross the boundary into my code. I would like an easy way of determining (in Application.ThreadException) where in my own code an exception originated. am aware this information is contained in the Exception.StackTrace property, but I would like an easy way to get to this specific information seeing as the stacktrace property is one huge string.

In my project, I have a local dataset (XSD) that I am using as local-temporary tables. I am getting a System.InvalidCastException when trying to access the field in one the tables. I believe this is because I my code is (incorrectly) not setting a field's value in a row before trying to access it.My problem is that the exception is breaking in the designer file and not in my code. As a result, I'm having difficulting determining which line of my code reading the field value before it has been set. Is there any way to configure Visual Studio to break in my code instead of in the designer created file?

On a recent project I stumbled across a page of code that looked unfamiliar, but which evidently was the code behind my form design. I'll copy and paste an excerpt to show you what I mean:

I thought this was a useful way to back up my project via email because it's in text form. But now I can't find the same information. I've looked in the Object Browser but couldn't find it anywhere. I think I stumbled on it the first time by right clicking Go to definition, but now that doesn't take me anywhere if I click on say form1. So where will I find this mysterious page that has all the form items information in text, not graphic form? Can't find it anywhere.

I've made a user control and have added some internal labels inside it. In the User control class I'm trying to handle the mouse events so that: When the mouse enters the User-Control the background of the User-Control turns white - using MouseEnter event. When the mouse leaves the User-Control the background of the User-Control turns grey - using MouseLeave event. However as soon as I move the mouse over the internal labels it triggers the MouseLeave event. I don't want it to do that, because the mouse hasn't left the bounds of the User-Control! So, how do I get it to not trigger the MouseLeave event when the mouse is still internal to the User-Control?

I've seen a few people on here saying that you shouldnt use GoTo in VB.NET and to be honest I've tended to agree as I have never needed to use it and there is always another way of doing something without using it. However, I'm just wondering what is so bad about it? I actually noticed that Microsoft seem to use it a fair bit in the internal .NET framework code, which is what makes me wonder why people are so against it.

So heres the deal i am still learning VB (bet you guessed that), now what i am tryiing to do is create a form with a number of text boxes (say 25) where a user can enter their own data. Which they can then save as a file and reload. Now when they reload the file the data needs to be put back in the text boxes where it originated
Which would be the most efficient way to write this?, would i write it ti a csv file or a database or text file, as you can tell i'm a little confused on what areas i need to research.

How to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:

This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.

What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.
I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc

Background : I have built a VB .NET application on the 4.0 Framework, part of the primary functionality is the built in AxWMPLib.AxWindowsMediaPlayer which allows us to pass a file path as a URL to the player and then play it through the built in media player. I get this exception "could not find installable isam" when trying to read from an excel file in vb. I tried google and the most I get refers to a problem with my connection but I don't know how to fix that. Here is my connection string

The error I am encountering occurs at the second con.Open() when I try to connect to a .mdb database file which I created in access, the function correctly tells me I have a password, but then once I enter my password I get the error defined in the title, and I have no idea why.

I have my .net app running on my home machine, and at one point it threw an exception.Problem is, Windows doesn't tell me what the exception is, just says that it stopped responding and closed it.I want to find the exception and stack trace so I can debug it, since I can't to reproduce the problem inside visual studio.The machine is running Windows 7 x64. I found in the event viewer some minor information:
Problem signature:
P1: server info.exe
P2: 1.4.0.0

So based on that I can see there was a null reference. I remember way back when I was on XP, when the application crashed it would show the whole exception stack. Can I find that information somewhere?

I need to open and read a Dbase file in my ASP.NET application. When I try to open the connection, I am getting the exception "Could not find installable ISAM." I am creating a form for work where managers can report when they find a customer's personal information laying around on a desk (we work at a call center where agents answer calls for a wireless cell phone provider, so we take personal information security very seriously). It is possible to catch an exception and throw a new exception which wraps the first exception as an inner exception: [URL] Also, if I call a function and it throws a certain error, but I catch it, will the calling code's catch handler execute? If so, and it is of a higher exception type, is this not wrapping the exception? eg I can throw exception ex of type IndexOutOfRange, log it but rethrow, catch a higher up exception and do something, or I can throw a new exception and wrap an inner exception like:

Somehow the User.Config file was corrupted for an instance of my VB .NET app. When access one of my user level config property (My.Settings.MyProp) I get the a ConfigurationErrorsException with the message "Configuration system failed to initialize." I looked at the User.Config file and found that it is empty, it can be opened but there is no XML text contained within.I would like to programmatically fix the file if an exception is seen. When I attempt to use any of my user level properties, I continue to get the same exception. I've tried calling the Reset() but that yeilds the same exception. I then tried Save() to see if it would write out a default version, but it appears to do nothing (the file is not updated). My.Settings appears to be useless at this point.How can I reinitialize the User.Config file to the default config settings without deleting the old file? I would think that there should be some mechanism for restoring this file back to its default. And how can I update/reinitialize the My.Settings instance so that I can access the properties normally?

I am trying to get a textbox to have a time value of mm:ss. I am trying to make sure that what the user has entered is in the correct format. i.e. If a user enters in 0923 the exception would be thrown. But if 09:23 is entered it would pass through. Below is the code I currently have. I have tried 3 different things and none work. Any help would be appreciated.

I have to get the balance from the web server. Once that is done it will call back into my main app with the result.However, sometime the web server fails for some unknown reason. Could be high volume of traffic or something else. However, I haven't implemented any exception handling in my class. As the app that uses this handles the exception. However, the client has confirmed that when the web server does fail it displays a unhandled exception dialog box. Then they have to click continue to keep using my application. I have created a windows form based application and I want the form to add a user specified amount of user controls (with textboxes) on to a panel. The user can then click some button and the controls on this panel are cleared and new ones are added. The user does something and the process is repeated. Now, I wanted these textboxes to support spell checking and looked all over for a free solution.
WPF textboxes support spell checking where the ones in regular win forms do not. I thought I would be able to use these WPF textboxes by adding them to an ElementHost object which is, in turn, within a panel. This panel would be a user control.
So, in my application, I would be able to add instances of these user controls onto the form and make use of .NET's spell checking goodness. This actually worked but after using the application for a while, found that the application would eventually freeze on me due to out of memory errors. I have pinpointed the memory errors to these WPF controls since this problem does not happen with normal textboxes.
When the window is opened and the number of controls is specified, this is pretty much how the controls are added:

There are a lot of results on the internet when I tried to find a solution and I'm thinking that the problem I am having is due to the fact that the WPF control is not going away even after clearing the panel. Following this conclusion, I have tried different solutions regarding disposing these controls or setting them to nothing but the memory problem keeps occurring.
