I have two problems with my windows form in Visual Basic .NET 2008. If you have worked with sticky notes you will understand me better.Now my problems:
If you look you'll see the background color of number 1 and 2 are diffrent but both belongs to the same control. How is this possible? In right bottom corner, there is something by which a user can resize the form.

View 1 RepliesI want to build a form with fields bound to a datasoruce that the user can scroll through (using the up and down arrows).This would be a detail screen, but I don't really want a visible data gird or list on the screen with it, but as I'm still designing this may be something I would want to try also. The screen would be read-only data with a search textbox that would be used to query the list of data. The user will enter a search term and then browse through the detail screen to locate the exact record they want. I'm somewhat restricted on design because I'm trying to replicate a legacy program and don't want to deviate too far from the original design.For my datasource I've got a List (of MyClass), I just need to figure out the binding and navigation.

Depending on the button pressed at the top in the toolbar panel a different panel at the bottom will be available.This is thought to have different part of the software available on different panel but with the toolbar panel always available at the top.To implement this I thought:
1) one tablelayout with 2 rows. First row contain a panel with the button (toolbar panel) and adding/removing hte correct panel requested on the bottom row.

View 2 RepliesI am currently working on a project for school in which I am trying to implement a multi user login on one of my forms. I have an internal database connected in which one of my tables contains the user-names and passwords. I have a For/each loop to search the table for a matching username/password before allowing access to next form. The problem is even if the username/password is correct, my message box still appears to notify of invalid credentials, but still allows access to other form. The problem only occurs when I implement two For/each loops. With one, code works fine. Can any one see what might be wrong?

I want to implement a password text box that will behave like the one we see in Windows 7 (ie, when there is no user input, then it will display a string 'Enter password', and when the user press any key, this string is cleared). I have a small VB .Net application that, among other things, attempts to substitute system wide typed text by the user(hotstrings concept). To achieve that, I have deployed 'ahk2exe' and 'AutoHotkeySC.bin' with my application and did the following:When a user assignes a new 'hotstring':
Kill 'hotstring' exe script file if running Append new hotstring to the script file (if non exist then create a new one)Convert edited/new script file to exe (using ahk2exe)Run the newly converted script exe(somewhere there I also check if the hotstring has been already assigned)However, I am not totally satisfied with this method for the following two main reasons:
The extra resources deployed with the application. Lag: The time it takes for the system to kill the process and then restart it takes a minimum of 5 seconds on my fast computer and more on other computers. That amount of time is much more than the time it takes the user to assign the hotstring, minimize/close the window and then test his/her new hotstring. When the user does so initially with no success they will think the process failed. So this method is not very good for user experience.I am looking for a different method or implementation. May be using keyboard hooks? Or maybe adding a .dll library that achieves the same. Are there any resources you know about that might help (free or commercial)? What is the best way to achieve my desired goal?

If I press the X button, the application closes fine(Goes from processes) If I were to open the application, and then navigate from the main form to another form using me.hide & form1.show, and press the red X on Form1, the application again, closes fine.

I have the requirement to create an application that has multiple front ends developed using Windows Forms, WPF, ASP and Compact Framework Mobile Forms.I would like to be able to create a series of obejct representing the business logic and have this logic accessible from the various front ends available. My first thought was to use remoting as I'd like to be able to pass the business objects back and forth between client and server but the compact framework doesn't support remoting and also transferring a full framework business object to a compact framework business object doesn't seem possible.My next thought was to use web services but again the passing of business objects seems to be very hard to accomplish. Without doing this I would have to create individual web methods for each business operation.
Finally my next option is to use sockets and write the whole client/server logic within some classes and expose them to the UI/Business layer. My only problem with this is it is not scaleable should the number of clients increase dramatically whereas using remoting or web services I can host the solution via ASP.Net.Does anybody have an ideas on the best way forward for this or even have any input on how they would write an application that required a windows form, wpf, asp website and mobile device GUI all of which want to use the same business logic?
I would like to know if its possible to start up a second windows forms inside the parent form. Ex: A button is pressed and a new form is showed. I would like to keep that new form inside the parent form, and have it not be able to go outside the parent form.

View 1 RepliesI have a problem with scroll in a treeview in a Windows forms application (Framework version 3.5).
The strange thing about the problem is that on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 the scroll works as excepted, but in Windows Server 2003 SP2 the scrolling doesn't work. Enable/disable Visual Styles doesn't seem to make a difference on Server 2003.
Steps to reproduce the error:
1. Add a treeview to a form and add x nr of root items (and 1 sub item to each item).
2. Expand a number of nodes. The non-standard thing here is that we are changing the node integral height because we display a usercontrol with the treenode (See example of the code below).
3. When you scroll afterwards, you cannot scroll to the bottom node. The scrollbar is all the way down, but we are not seeing the last node.

I was playing a game recently and saw that they could use args in the shortcut, and I decided to try to impliment this into my application...so far, I got: (runs this sub on load)

just to see what it returns, but the application crashes. I also tried path.tostring(), but that didn't work. When I did:
