View 11 RepliesIs there a way to print a form without streaming it into an image?
0. specify coordinates of each element and print
1. save the form as a pdf and then print the pdf
For 0, I wouldn't prefer that since it is too messy
For 1, it sounds like a good idea. however I dont want to save the pdf. Is there a way this can be done?
PS: I am using VS 2008 Express edition. I believe I cannot use powerpack.
As part of this project I'm doing for VB class I'm required to print out an image of the form. Anyways, the form is exactly 1024 x 780 so I have it set to landscape to fit better, but it still hangs off by an inch or so on the top and left margins. Here where I got the code from [URL]. I tried going under .DefaultPrintSettings and using Offset and Margins but changing them did nothing. I should also add that I know my printer can't print on every part of a page and that some of the image will be cut off, but I have been able to print within 1/2 inch of the edge of the paper before and when I print the form image it cuts it of at like 1 1/2 inches.

I have been able to do the exercise's in the first 2 chapters and half the exercise's in the third chapter of the text book (programming in visual basic 2008, Julia Case Bradley & Anita C. Millspaugh). but this one is making my head want to explode. please point me in the right direction with this.
Heres the problem. The company has instituted a bonus program to give its employees an incentive to sell more. For every dollar the store makes in a four-week period, the employees receive 2 percent of sales. The amount of bonus each employee receives is based upon the percentage of hours he or she worked during the bonus period (a total of 160 hours). The Calculate button will determine the bonus earned by this employee, and the Clear button will clear only the name, hours-worked, and bonus amount fields. A Print button allows the user to print the form. Do not allow missing or bad input data to cancel the program; instead display a message to the user.
Here's my code so far. its giving me the wrong results. i have tried many different ways,(hence the commented code) but I just dont know where im going wrong.

I have an Excel 2007 workbook chock full o' VBA macros that do various things, including one that jumps from chart to chart making PDFs of each using PDFCreator, based on some code I borrowed from Ken Puls (url...).However recently I and some users of the workbook started having problems where the PDFs would be created with either gray image artifacts over the charts,or the whole chart image would have a double of itself skewed slightly. It just happens the problems started after we did a global upgrade to Office 2007, though I had had 2007 installed on my computer for a while and tested and used the workbook extensively without issue up until then. Here is the part of the code that automates the printing:
Sub PDF_print_all()
'Author : Ken Puls (www.excelguru.ca)
'Macro Purpose: Print to PDF file using PDFCreator[code]...
The problem is not consistent either... sometimes it will print to PDF with an oddly shaped block of gray, and sometimes it will only have the whole chart image doubled. The only consistency I could find is that sometimes if an object is selected in a chart beforehand (a text box, chart line, axis numbers, etc) the gray artifact will partly mimic the shape of whatever object had been selected.I wish I could include example images to show exactly what's happening.I know it's not a problem inherent to PDFCreator because if I manually print to it in Excel, the PDF image looks perfect. It's only when I use the automated method that the problem occurs, so I thought maybe it was the code.

View 4 RepliesI'm making a simple little program. It's going to save the image in the clipboard (from pressing Print Screen) to the folder that the .exe is in. My problem is trying to find out how to save the image file with a user-specified name, such as "Image", then adding numbers to it. So it would be like Image_00001, Image_00002, etc. I would like to make the name be specified using a textbox (pretty easy). I know how to get it to save as different image formats and all, and I know how to get it to save as a hardcoded name in a hardcoded location, but that it isn't what I'm aiming for. If you've ever used the screenshot function of Fraps or MSI Afterburner, then that's basically what I'm trying to make here.
I've already searched these forums and did some Googling, but couldn't find anything that I was looking for. Not even a sample program with something like this. I found something in the CodeBank, but it's all the stuff I've already gotten implemented.

View 7 RepliesI have to write an application that consists of mainly one main form, but several different things I wanna display. Pretty standard I guess. So there is a menu, some controls, and the main stuff below (ranging form graphs, tables, dropdown boxes, print preview, etc). I would like to use it like one would use frames in html, design an object that is limited to a box or panel that I define. The literature I have does not give me a clear idea of how to do this (yet). The most obvious seem to be the use of MDI, open a predefined form with no borders, maximize it before showing and remove all minimize/maximize options. But that does not work so well. The form inside the MDI parent does not fit the size that is given for it when it is loaded. e.g.
[CODE]:......................
So my main question is: Is MDI the way to go here at all or are there better/easyer ways to achieve this? If MDI is the way to go, how do I sucessfully restrict a child form inside another object, without giving the user any opportunity to resize (i noticed that I have minnimize/maximize/close buttons, even if I disable them on the child forms themselves)
I can't remember exactly if this is possible or not but what I am attempting I would think should theoretically be possible. I know it is possible in WPF but the company I am working for doesn't want to make the transition just yet. Basically what I want is to use a background image on a form for the background and I have a docked control on the right and left. I have set the background on both of these docked controls to transparent however it is showing the back color rather than the background image. I tried, rather than setting the background image property, to override the onpaintbackground and onpaint events and use e.graphics.draw(picture, me.clientrectangle) but it still seems to just pick up the backcolor as the true transparent background so I'm wondering if it's possible to get it to show the background image through the control rather than the backcolor of the form?

Once this happens i click the manipulate image button and the image should be altered so that paris-steg.png has a message hidden in it. Then i have to decode that message. At this point im having troubel getting the file name to automatically appear as paris-steg.jpeg, and you will proabbly see why with my code. I need to know how to do this. In this program you should read text from a file one character at a time instead of one line at a time. If <tt>sr</tt> is an IO.StreamReader, then <tt>sr.Read()</tt> will return an integer that is the value of the next character in the file. Use <tt>Read</tt> instead of <tt>ReadLine</tt> in this program. You can check whether a file exists by using the code <tt>IO.File.Exists(filename )</tt> . The function will return a Boolean value (True if the file exists but False if not).
You can check whether a string ends with a specified pattern by using the <tt>EndsWidth(pattern )</tt> function. For example, if <tt>s</tt> is a String, then <tt>s.EndsWidth(".txt")</tt> will return a Boolean value (True if <tt>s</tt> ends with the pattern but False otherwise). In a string, <tt>IndexOf(pattern )</tt> gives the first position where the pattern exists, but <tt>LastIndexOf</tt> gives the very last position where the pattern exists. The code <tt>s = Chr(i)</tt> converts the Integer <tt>i</tt> into a character and assigns the character to the string <tt>s</tt> .

This is how you can take a picture of the form and print it.First thing you have to do is add a PrintDocument component to the form. You can get that from the Toolbox (way down the list). Then you need to add a PrintDialog to the form as well. Also a button that says "Print" is probably a good idea...Code:'We declare this here, cause were going to take the picture befor we show the print dialog'I tried to take the picture in the PrintPage sub but it didnt work, would print the dialogs, etc.'So we take the picture when the user presses the button, then show the dialog.Private Print_Image As Image
'This is used to take the pictureDeclare Auto Function BitBlt Lib "GDI32.DLL" ( _ ByVal hdcDest As IntPtr, _ ByVal nXDest As Integer, _ ByVal nYDest As Integer, _ ByVal nWidth As Integer, _ ByVal nHeight As Integer, _ ByVal hdcSrc As IntPtr, _ ByVal nXSrc As Integer, _ ByVal nYSrc As Integer, _ ByVal dwRop As Int32) As Boolean

Using Visual Studio 2008 pro.
I wanted to create a report based on data from a form but that didn't work on CR because I couldn't transfer the richtextbox contents to the CR along with its formating and pictures. So abandoning that idea, I decided to create a form and print the contents. Once again the RichTectBox is creating major problems for me.
Does anyone know how I can print a form that has: Textboxes AND Richtextboxes (with formated text and pictures) The form will propably have 6or7 txtboxes and 1 rtb but that doesn't really matter if I figure out how to print 1 and 1 on one try.
I have used controls on a form to create a chart on the form. Now I want to print this chart to a printer. I have tried various approaches without much success and have searched the web etc for solutions but nothing gives the answer directly.[code]...
