View 18 RepliesI need to send and receive a large image between programs running on different machines within the same network.
I've looked at using upd however ran into problems with the size of the packets and
(after breaking the image into smaller pieces to get past this problem) the number of packets needing to be processed all at once - and ultimately packet loss.
I've also thought of sending the image by storing it in a common file folder and receiving it by using file watcher as a trigger. However, this just adds further complexities in setup where common folders don't already exist.
Assuming I'm barking up the right tree looking at tcp, can someone point me to/provide an example of how to send an image file using it (vb.net would be ideal). Also, are there practical limits to tcp package sizes?
Just a doubt: if I have large amount of image files for my app, is it ok to store them in the resource file ?
Will those files be saved in a single resource file ? Will that cause any problem to the performance of my app ? When I try to access a image file from the resource using code, will it load that file only into the memory or the entire image contents from the resource file ?
Ok so i have an jpg image of around 8.10mbs at around 13424 x 11344 pixels, i need to load the whole image in to a scrolling picturebox, is they anyway to do this without using so much memory for example like what google maps does n cuts the image down and some how stitches it all back to gether?
View 1 Repliesok so i currently have a large image loading in to a picture box the image is 13424 x 11344 and 8.10mbs and it up around 460,000k of memory i was just wondering if they was a more efficient way of loading this image?
View 4 RepliesThe title asks it all, if i have a form with a picturebox (dock = fill), and it loads a bigger picture than the screen bounds, and i want that form to resize so it fits the screen but having the same ratio as the picture size. How shall i do this?
View 4 RepliesI have a map image and i want to open it look like ACDSEE (very fast)my image is 12756 x 8504 pixel and i try backbuffer but not work for me.
View 3 RepliesI am an experienced programmer but mainly in 4GLs and assembly. Relatively new to VB programming, especially GUI applications. On a form I need to create an area that will be used to display *extremely* large TIFF images. typical image size would be 2000 pixels by 100,000 pixels. Typically I will NOT want to display the entire image at once, so the area will need to have scroll bars and/or other methods to scroll/pan around the image.
I have read about and tinkered with the bitmap and picturebox objects, including some threads about several different ways to implement scrollbars. However, I see that the picturebox size is limited to 32K pixels in both dimensions. I suppose that I might be able to copy various portions of the bitmap to the picturebox depending on scroll position, but that seems potentially quite slow and cumbersome. Can an expert developer who is experienced with these types of issues regarding the following:
1. Can bitmap objects be used effectively with TIFF images of the size I am working with?
2. an approach that should produce reasonable scrolling performance for these extremely large images without excessive coding effort?
3. For an image that exceeds the picturebox size when displayed at 1:1 scale, is the picturebox capable of displaying a reduced size version of such an image without lots of code, and if so, how?
4. Many (most?) graphics display objects count on all of their display data being stored in memory rather than on disk. Would that be true of a TIFF image loaded into a bitmap object and displayed via a picturebox? If so, the amount of RAM required in order to buffer the entire image in memory could be a potential problem for images of this size. Is there an advisable way to have the picturebox or other display object only load portions of the image into memory on an as needed basis, and purge them once they are no longer required? Are there any built in objects/methods/properties or is there any sample code to show how to do this?
I can print out code as I did in vb6, but there does not seem to be an option to print the actual form image.

I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long
After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single
for my project "Shotty" (a screenshot capture, edit and upload utility)I am searching for a way to print the captured image. I don't want to implemet a complete printer setup printing code, so I thought it should be possible to save the image to %temp% and run the explorer integrated image printing on it.

View 8 RepliesIs there a way to print a form without streaming it into an image?
0. specify coordinates of each element and print
1. save the form as a pdf and then print the pdf
For 0, I wouldn't prefer that since it is too messy
For 1, it sounds like a good idea. however I dont want to save the pdf. Is there a way this can be done?
PS: I am using VS 2008 Express edition. I believe I cannot use powerpack.
How i can make print preview to image in picture box before i print?
i wanna do that by vb.net code
As part of this project I'm doing for VB class I'm required to print out an image of the form. Anyways, the form is exactly 1024 x 780 so I have it set to landscape to fit better, but it still hangs off by an inch or so on the top and left margins. Here where I got the code from [URL]. I tried going under .DefaultPrintSettings and using Offset and Margins but changing them did nothing. I should also add that I know my printer can't print on every part of a page and that some of the image will be cut off, but I have been able to print within 1/2 inch of the edge of the paper before and when I print the form image it cuts it of at like 1 1/2 inches.

View 5 RepliesI have an Excel 2007 workbook chock full o' VBA macros that do various things, including one that jumps from chart to chart making PDFs of each using PDFCreator, based on some code I borrowed from Ken Puls (url...).However recently I and some users of the workbook started having problems where the PDFs would be created with either gray image artifacts over the charts,or the whole chart image would have a double of itself skewed slightly. It just happens the problems started after we did a global upgrade to Office 2007, though I had had 2007 installed on my computer for a while and tested and used the workbook extensively without issue up until then. Here is the part of the code that automates the printing:
Sub PDF_print_all()
'Author : Ken Puls (www.excelguru.ca)
'Macro Purpose: Print to PDF file using PDFCreator[code]...
The problem is not consistent either... sometimes it will print to PDF with an oddly shaped block of gray, and sometimes it will only have the whole chart image doubled. The only consistency I could find is that sometimes if an object is selected in a chart beforehand (a text box, chart line, axis numbers, etc) the gray artifact will partly mimic the shape of whatever object had been selected.I wish I could include example images to show exactly what's happening.I know it's not a problem inherent to PDFCreator because if I manually print to it in Excel, the PDF image looks perfect. It's only when I use the automated method that the problem occurs, so I thought maybe it was the code.
I'm making a simple little program. It's going to save the image in the clipboard (from pressing Print Screen) to the folder that the .exe is in. My problem is trying to find out how to save the image file with a user-specified name, such as "Image", then adding numbers to it. So it would be like Image_00001, Image_00002, etc. I would like to make the name be specified using a textbox (pretty easy). I know how to get it to save as different image formats and all, and I know how to get it to save as a hardcoded name in a hardcoded location, but that it isn't what I'm aiming for. If you've ever used the screenshot function of Fraps or MSI Afterburner, then that's basically what I'm trying to make here.
I've already searched these forums and did some Googling, but couldn't find anything that I was looking for. Not even a sample program with something like this. I found something in the CodeBank, but it's all the stuff I've already gotten implemented.

I have been able to do the exercise's in the first 2 chapters and half the exercise's in the third chapter of the text book (programming in visual basic 2008, Julia Case Bradley & Anita C. Millspaugh). but this one is making my head want to explode. please point me in the right direction with this.
Heres the problem. The company has instituted a bonus program to give its employees an incentive to sell more. For every dollar the store makes in a four-week period, the employees receive 2 percent of sales. The amount of bonus each employee receives is based upon the percentage of hours he or she worked during the bonus period (a total of 160 hours). The Calculate button will determine the bonus earned by this employee, and the Clear button will clear only the name, hours-worked, and bonus amount fields. A Print button allows the user to print the form. Do not allow missing or bad input data to cancel the program; instead display a message to the user.
Here's my code so far. its giving me the wrong results. i have tried many different ways,(hence the commented code) but I just dont know where im going wrong.

i have this working in a diffrent project but for some reason it wont work in this one.
i get the error missing parameter, on the last line of my code

Dim paramField As New ParameterField
Dim discreteVal As New ParameterDiscreteValue

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do these from a simple text box. i.e. 'TextBox1'.
I'm just learning VB and it's only a simple text editor but I can't find any good sites or posts that help me in understanding how to do it. These are not really covered in any of the 'beginner' books I have acquired either.
My instructor told us how to print documents and how to use databases. What the instructor did not mention is how to print or print a preview of records within a DatabaseDataSet. The book "Programming in Visual Basic 2010" does not explain how to print or do a print preview of Database Source records from within a form. The only thing I was told was to test the print document first before you try to do a print preview. Within a form I used a DataGridView to add, delete, and update the database. So now all I need to do is figure out how to print the updated records from the DataGridView and how to print a preview of the records within the DataGridView. So I hope my question is clear enough to give me assistance on how I can perform these two actions. Thanks this would be a great help, and since the class is online we can get assistance from any sources that we have.
