Large Multidimensial Array - Write A Program To Do Markov Chain But States Are Quite Large

Jun 9, 2011

I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long

After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single

Write A Dynamic Linq Expression - Large Program With Many References

Oct 14, 2011

I've build a large program with many references. F.e.:

System.Data.DataSetExtensions
System.Linq.Dynamic

I've to write a Dynamic Linq Expression: [URL]

In my case: Dim query As IEnumerable = ds.Sales.Where(strWhere)

But with System.Data.DataSetExtensions Where is misinterpreted. The compiler expects (Datarow, Integer, Boolean). If I delete System.Data.DataSetExtensions everything is ok with this expression, but I get many other errors, so I need this reference. What can I do that the Where is interpreted correctly?

Comparing Large Array Lists - Matching Strings?

Apr 26, 2011

I have two array list same size, depending on the information gathered by previous functions. The size of the arrays range from 2 - 45 in length, both arrays always have the same length. I am trying to match one string in one array to another string in the second array. When they match then add Item to List.

Here is my
Do Until i = Arraylenght
info = Replace(myAL(s), " ", "")
SortedArrayList(m) = Replace(SortedArrayList(m), " ", "")
SortedLine = Split(SortedArrayList(m), "Price=")
If myAL(s).Contains(SortedLine(1)) Then

This code works up to an array of not more then 4 in lenght, when working larger size array then 4, the minute it get to 5 I get this Error:

Read A Very Large Database Table In Program?

Apr 22, 2011

I'm developing a VB.NET application to obtain data from any data source (using an odbc connection string), and because this i can't use specific .net connectors like MySql.Net connector and i can't previously know if the file/DMBS supports LIMIT parameter. This app will read data from a table in the data source and use the information to make some files. At this point there was no problem with some tables because they are less than 3,000,000 records length, but there is a table that has 5,000,000+ rows length, and when i send the query the connection is lost. I'm working with OdbcDataReader, because i read on MSDN site that this is the best way to read a table one row at time and i just use each record once.[code]...

Create A Program To List A Large Group Of Numbers?

Feb 7, 2011

I am currently trying to create a program to list a large group of numbers for me. My final goal is to have every 2, 3, 4, ..., and 9 digit number containing only "1" "2" and "3". I thought I would go about this by using the following VB.NET program and then copying it into a text editor, and using find & replace to eliminate all other numbers.

Public Class Form1
Dim Start As Integer = 333333333
Dim Counter As Integer = 333333333

[Code].....

it fails due to the massive amount of processing that needs to take place. However, adding the intervals requires a great deal of time for each number to be displayed without any crashes.

Is there some way (in VB.NEt or another language) to get the number list I want in a short (an hour or less) amount of time?

Event Vs Recursion - Program That Has A Large Set Of Classes In It - Each Class Will Need To Add One Or More Strings To One Of Two Lists

Mar 14, 2010

I have a program that has a large set of classes in it. A certain incident (I won't call it an event, yet, as that has a specific meaning that will cause trouble later) needs to a relatively small subset of these classes a question. The subset of classes will need to respond to the question, but for it to be able to do so, the classes may first need to ask a similar question of the same subset, which may prompt yet a further question, though this recursion will never go more than three or four levels down. Since only a small subset of these classes will participate in the questions, while the majority will never participate, and since all of these classes are virtually identical, and I can know at design time whether any given class is part of the subset or not, an event is appropriate. The main class can raise an event, and those classes in the subset can handle the event, while those classes that are not in the subset won't handle the event. Furthermore, any of these classes can raise the event again with different parameters, as needed. Thus far, an event appears to be ideal.

The problem is this: As a result of the event, each class will need to add one or more strings to one of two lists. Event handlers can't return anything, so I can't be using the return values from functions to populate these lists.

Two options appear possible:

1) Include the two lists in the event arguments.

2) Have the two lists be accessible to all classes, and don't pass anything around.

The second part of the problem is that the event is effectively a question being asked of each class, and no action can be taken until each class has responded. If I simply raise an event and let each class respond, can I be certain that all classes that should respond have? An alternative solution would be to have each class expose a method, and call these methods for each class in turn. By doing this, I could get return values, but I would have to call the methods for ALL the classes, not just the subset that actually cares (the classes are all different types, but they all implement a common interface, and are added to a List (of ) that interface, so I can iterate through them all without much difficulty). So, the event seems more efficient, but adding a function to the common interface for the classes is the approach most certain of being a solution.

File I/O And Registry :: AVI Header - Program To Download And Play AVI Files The Files Are Large In Size And Long Time Wise

Dec 11, 2011

I wrote a program to download and play AVI files the files are large in size and long time wise. I have the files playing as they are being downloaded but i can't see how long the file is or seek reliably. i was reading that the AVI headers are in the last 512kb of the AVI file *why would't they put it at the start* lol so my question is is there a way to download the last 512Kb of the file i'm downloading. i have the Bytes Read and Length of the file while its downlaoding i'm just not sure where to go from there, or how to do it atleast. If i had the length in time of the Avi file i could set the trackbar to be able to seek properly. or if someone has an idea how i could get the time of the video by using fps and some math i could prob do it that way too but idk how i would tell how i can find how many kb are in the fps i'm sure it changes so think that way is't going to be reliable. how to get the last 512kb would be the best option not sure if it can be done even.

.net - Dealing With Large Integers?

Apr 19, 2012

So I am making a file crypter so that I can encrypt my VB.NET Application that I am making so that people can't decompile it. I had made this in C# and am transfering it to VB.NET, Everything worked fine in C# but once I had re-written the code in VB.NET i get this error inside of my RC4 Encryption method:

'Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow.'

The error is occuring here:

Dim t As Int64 = (s(i) + s(j)) Mod 256

This is the same code above in c#:

int t = (s[i] + s[j]) % 256;

Is there anyway to make that calculation with it erroring? And why does it work in C# but not VB.NET?

Display Them As Large As The Screen Will Allow?

Mar 10, 2012

I propose to start a project which will take image files from a folder selected by the user, and display them as large as the screen will allow. I shall start with images that will be in the form 'filename.jgp'.I reckon I'll be able to do most of the coding without too much trouble but before I begin I'd like to know that there is a way of discovering the x and y pixel sizes of a .jpg file so that I when expand, or reduce it I will be able to keep the image in the correct aspect ratio.I'd also like to know if there is a way to rotate an image through 90 either clockwise or anticlockwise, (counterclockwise) for those cases where an image is stored sideways due to the difference between taking photographs either in landscape or portrait mode, or even through 180 I guess for if the camera was totally inverted.

Handle A Very Large Database?

Mar 13, 2012

I'm faced with a (fun, actually) data mining problem; I have raw ASCII files from instruments, and I want to move that data (~100 GB) into a database, then be able to run various algorithms determining correlations of time series, etc. I would like to write the mining algorithms in Visual Basic (.net, VS 2010 right now), and be able to do visualizations with VB code I have in hand.On the nature of the data: think of a set of several thousand devices, each recording a measurement at a given interval - so I'm talking time-series vectors.

I spent today re-acquainting myself with VB.NET's interface to (in one case) a Microsoft Access database. What used to be fairly simple - DAO I think it was - involved tables, recordsets, etc (and that would likely be fine). Now I seem to be required to have a weird variety of generally useless objects, e.g. 'adapters', 'datasets', etc. The problem is that I know exactly what I need, and all this extraneous stuff just gets in the way (certainly in coding complexity and opaqueness, and likely in efficiency as well). If any of these mechanisms gave me a kind of virtual access to the entire dataset, and let me control caching parameters, etc.it might be great, but I found nothing along those lines.

Anyway, I tried a number of different approaches, and none seemed at all aimed at what I need to do: efficiently do math on a large dataset. I can't believe I'm the first to have this problem, but I can find no useful wisdom out there. I'd be comfortable with pretty much any underlying database mechanism: MySQL, SQL Server, MS Access, but ideally something generally SQL based (I may eventually have to transition this entire system to draw from a client's SQL database, though that's not an overriding concern now). Other than that I want simplicity and efficiency. I thought my old ODBC techniques would work, and to some extent they do, though modifying tables seemed to have bizarre problems (no errors, but not modifications either).

I do have a fairly aggressive deadline to show some algorithm results, so my focus in the short term is to get something reasonable working *in* the short term - in other words, it's less important to me to pick the 'fastest' relational database than it is to pick a database that lets me focus on coding the algorithms, not working through tedious data access coding. If this db could be any smaller, I'd have tried to do it all 'in memory' at least for proving concepts; I don't want to have to learn an entire jargon and approach just to be able to retrieve data points, and write out new info (e.g., first derivatives of time series).

Perhaps I'll need to bite the bullet and just write something myself, a .dll perhaps just to save and restore large time series vectors. It seems a bit frightening to me that one would have to do this in this age, what with all the database systems out there, but I don't have much time to work through arcane interface logic.

Linq - Using Large Arrays In .NET?

Jan 18, 2010

I want to extract large amounts of data from Excel, manipulate it and put it back. I have found the best way to do this is to extract the data from an Excel Range in to a large array, change the contents on the array and write it back to the Excel Range.I am now rewriting the application using VB.NET 2008/2010 and wish to take advantage of any new features.

Currently I have to loop through the contents of the array to find elements with certain values; also sorting large arrays is cumbersome. I am looking to use the new features, including LINQ to manipulate the data in my array.Does anybody have any advice on the easiest ways to filter / query, sort etc. data in a large array. Also what are the reasonable limits to the size of the array?
