IDE :: Debugger F8 Step Into And Other Function Keys Not Working?
Sep 30, 2010
I've reviewed the other posts regarding this subject. I'm using VB from Excel and the function keys are not working. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium with Office Ultimate 2007 Looks like Excel is running VB 6.5So, this used to work for me...I've used the debugger quite a bit. When I try the solutions suggested Tools->Options->Keyboard (after checking check-box to show all settings) when I click on the box just below "Apply the following additional keyboard scheme" the only item in the list is default. There is no selection for VB 6 or anything else for that matter.
I am attempting to list files within a folder on an FTP site. When I run the debugger, I get a clean run the first time with no problems. Subsequent attempts lead to a 550 error: "The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)." However, If I step through the process in debugger, It works fine. I'm thinking this is a timeout issue because there are many files within the folder. Any suggestions?
Private Sub ListFTP(ByVal Directory As String) Dim Req As FtpWebRequest = Nothing Dim Response As FtpWebResponse = Nothing
I have a program that plays a video and uses the step function to move frame by frame backwards and forwards through the video. The forward frame works just fine:
AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.Ctlcontrols.step(1)
However, the backwards step (below) jumps a full second backwards while the forwards step only steps .033 seconds forward (presumably a single frame).
AxWindowsMediaPlayer1.Ctlcontrols.step(-1)
I can't find any documentation about this problem online and in fact I can't find much mention of this function.the documentation does say the -1 command should step back one frame. IWMPControls2::step method Is this a known bug or is there an updated function I should be using?
I am developing a vb.net media application using Windows Media Player which is working fairly well. However, I am having problems where the Function key handler will stop working after doing anything on the media control panel, i.e. mute, move the slider etc. So long as I don't touch the panel everything continues to work. I'm using the function keys to pull up menus for selecting other media and if I do anything with the control panel I can no longer display the menus.
I have installed VS2008 in my machine. I made a small program in the VB. When I start debugging, the system responds by indicating that the program is running but I don't see any output. Is their a possibility that VS2008 debuggers woun't work with Windows XP Home Edition which comes with my laptop.
where the VS debugger refuses to show certain field types including dates. My call stack contains FunctionA which calls FunctionB. FunctionB has about 45 parameters and many of them are dates. When I step into functionA,
1. the debugger refuses to show a date variable when you hold the mouse over it. It just shows {Date} instead of a value
2. If you do quick watch on that same variable, it also just shows {Date} instead of a value
3. If I do ?variablename in the immediate window, I get "System Error &H80131c23&"
When I comment out the call to functionB, the date variables all show correctly in all the above methods. I will stress that the code has not yet reached functionB, just its very existence in code screws up the debugger.I'm thinking this is a memory issue and maybe vs debugger can't cope with a huge function stack frame dataspace.devenv is only using 268Meg of ram on a 2Meg box, with not much else running. Thats reasonable for this size of project.
When I put a break on a line and then press F5 the debugger does break on the line which I put the Break (F9) but Step In (F8) as well as F5 are grayed out, not working, as well as a bunch of other debug tools.
I just recently had to rebuild my development environment from scratch. I've noticed that when I'm in debugging mode and I have a breakpoint set on a Procedure or Function, instead of stepping into that P or F, it just executes it without actually stepping thru the code. What do I need to change in my "Tools" and "Options" area?
I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system. While working on the visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.
I really need to learn much about it, but always stock up,.DOTNET covers the vb.net, C#, C++, ASP.NET, .NET framework is it right?.C++? ASP.NET?What should be my step by step procedure?
Will I start on database? Connection of client and server? Webrowser? Application?...etc etc etc. Will it ok if i start on studying every toolbox item one by one?
I dont have any project or every assignment that needs to be done....All i want is to learn about DOTNET
coming to the topic i want to learn dotnet i am not good at programming. but i want learn it i m very passionate about it.you all know soo much about DOTNET even i want to become like you people.i have a bit knowledge about this but not much..What should be my first step towards this? How should i start with and from where should i start with?
My need is to work with what I have (2005 studio), what I know (Visual Basic) but need a primer. I am a visual learner (so I need to see [1] how the form is created, named and set up). From there I need to see [2] how he code works so that I can implement from there.
I have a wizard where users need to fill out data. You cannot navigate to the second step until first step is completed.
I enforced this behavior by disabling/enabling "Next" button, but I really do not like this solution, since it seems not really elegant or safe here. What is the good approach on building step-by-step processes with enforcing step completion.
I'm trying to understand how this code work step by step but I'm confusing How the code work when executed from first step to last step?example: when I set obj to age = 39 . is the first step is checked if the variable in m_Age or checked in Property Age
vb Dim obj As New Minimal obj.Age = 39 MsgBox("after setting the age to 39, age is " & obj.Age.ToString) vb Public Class MinimalPrivate m_Age As Integer Property Age() As Integer Get Age = m_Age End Get
I have an application which I am trying to implement shortcut keys in. The application contains a main window from which dialog popups can be opened. I am having difficulty implementing the shortcut key functionality on the popup windows. I have the following code in one of the popup windows, and even though the first three key entries are the exact same as on the main window (except for the actual button names), which works, the same code does not work on the popup.
Private Sub frmInduction_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown If e.KeyCode = Keys.Control + Keys.S Or e.KeyCode = Keys.F5 Then btnAccept.PerformClick()
[code]....
I am opening the popup window with the following code- is there any way that the problem could be caused by how I am opening the popup?
Using frm As frmChangeValue = New frmChangeValue frm.ShowDialog() End Using
I wrote this: Private Sub TextBox2_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles TextBox2.KeyDown If e.KeyCode = Keys.Tab Then MsgBox("Tab") End If End Sub Why it doesn't work when I press tab on my keyboard?
I have a Window with Keybindings in InputBindings defined. They work the first time and when i set the focus on any control on the form. But when a Messagbox is shown and I press "OK" they shortcut keys don't work until I set the focus on a control in my window.
I have this code for my shortcut keys Private Sub Form1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown If e.Shift = True And e.KeyCode = Keys.F3 Then 'Do something End If
But I also have a button to send my program to the System tray like so: NotifyIcon1.Visible = True Me.Visible = False How can I get my shortcut key to work while my program is in the system tray? It doesn't work while its a notify icon
I am making a program where there are 2 label boxes and I have scripted both so that they move when a key is pushed. what I am trying to make is a multiplayer game that shares one keyboard. So Player1 has keys num.8 6 5 4 and player2 has keys wsad.
this works partially but if I close the reg key as shown I get an error [code]So my question is how/where do I place the Myreg.close and OldReg.Close commands???
I seem to lost the practice files disk for this book, and I am trying to 're-learn' this book. I am unable to do the lessons without the practice files. If you have the disk and could maybe zip them up and email them to me? I have the other disks still, and am using the Visual Studio Express to do this.
Is this the correct forum for questions regarding code in the Visual Basic 2008 Step By Step? If so I would like to know why there is a declaration for one PictureBox and not the other. If there is a better forum for Michael Halvorson's book, can anyone direct me there?
i would like to ask for little help in here. I developing application for wake on lan and i have group of checkboxes button and i sub with threads. My problem is in button event i would like to run sub only if checkboxes are checked. All works but problem is when i have this rutines in button action then it start threading all the same time. Its very hard to explain. Bassicaly i wanna read this if checkboxes systematicly 1 by 1 from top to down coz right now in my multitexbox(status) they are all mixed and i can't recognize what belong to what.
When I started to work on this new project in vb.net 2010, I put many breakpoints to try to understand the execution order of the project, only to find it in vain. Step into command F11 should work correctly according to Visual Studio 2010: Step Into Property/Function(F11) doesn't work as expected. But I when I pressed F11, I found the code is jumping from one place to another based on breakpoints, not line by line or step by step.To give an example, please see the code below
When I press F11 at line 1, it goes to the property 1. After it returns, when I press F11,it goes to property 3 directly, without accessing the code in line 2 and line 3.I do not understand why the code is NOT executed step by step by using F11. If I put breakpoingts in line 2, then line 2 is executed. So it seems to me that the showed execution order is based on breakpoints! So if I put breakpoints at different places, the showed execution order would be different! Thus, it is impossible for me to really understand the execution order.
I'm trying to understand how this code work step by step but I'm confusing How the code work when excuted from first step to last step? example: when I set obj to age = 39 . is the first step is checked if the variable in m_Age or checked in Property Age

When using the visual studio 2008 debugger with c# i can right-click on a variable and choose "Make Object ID" which allows me to watch that object (via it's ID) regardless of whether it is in the current stack frame or not.
When the debugger is in VB code, (doesnt matter if it's run from a c# unit test or a vb unit test) That option isn't there. Where did VB put this feature? Or does it simply not support it like so many other helpful c# features?
I cannot capture the function keys F1..F12 for my application. I am able to capture regular keys and modifiers such as shift, ctrl, alt, etc. This question recommends KeyPreview = True, however that does not seem to work for my application. What am I doing wrong?
I use IrfanView for screen capture. After activating it (making it ready) it is necessary to use Ctrl & F11 to invoke the actual screen capture selector.how I may achieve a "Floating Key" which would act in the same way as the Ctrl & F11 combination?
I have a MDI form where I have a status bar at the bottom of the form. It has a literal representation of several Function Keys. When I first load the MDI form and press any of the function keys, they all work like they're supposed to. However, if I have a Child form active and then try and press one of the function keys...nothing happens. What do I need to do to overcome that?
