IDE :: Format Order Of Controls Instantiated By Code During Run Time
Feb 3, 2009
I am working on an application that requires buttons and links to be added during run time, it's a bit like a flow chart. The buttons are used to display information similar to a multi line text box, but I also use the click, double click and mouse events for these buttons. The links are drawn as label controls. My problem is that I want to control the format order of these controls with the buttons always being on the top layer and the labels one layer back so that when labels are added they aways pass behind the buttons. If this was done at design time it is very easy to use the menu Format > Order to get overlapping controls displayed the way I want. But, the controls placed on the form at run time do not have a Format or Order property.
I have created a simple custom control - we will call it a "panel with buttons". Here is how I instantiate it:
[Code]....
So what I wind up with are multiple instances of my panel. Each of these panels has a button on it called Button1. My question is - how do I capture this button event in a way that I will know which panel index it came from?
In the custom control there is only the Button1_click event - and when I click on it in any of the multiple panels I manually instantiated the event does occur, but how I can tell which one of my instantiated buttons were clicked...
I am putting together a kind of "build your own report" page that will have up to 20 options for people to select. Each option, selected by checkbox or dropdown (probably) will add on to the SQL data source to pull only the information needed and display it in a gridview. For instance, the initial query is:
Select C.Name, From Clients as C
[code].....
How can I do this, preferably referring to the column using the column name of "My Position" and not a numeric...If this can NOT be done....The other option is to query everything and format it - and then hide columns in the gridview based on items that are not checked. Would this be easier? (Doesn't sound as efficient to me).
When retrieving rows from an SQL Server table I use the following code select mydate, Customer, Details from sales where mydatetime >= '" & format (somedate, "MMM d, yyyy h:mm:ss tt") & "'"This works fine unless the clients computers windows Region setting is 'English (New Zealand)'The default time format in windows Region and Language for New Zealand is [code]On computers with this region setting I get an SQL Error 'Conversion failed when converting date and/or time from character string'..If I manually select the other option for AM symbol, PM symbol in Region and Language i.e AM PM the all works fine again..What format string can I use so that above code always works, even if the Region time format is a.m. / p.m.
Suppose that one has a panel an inside it there are many buttons with Dock=Top. The button would tend to be stacked on top of the panel. How can I get a reference for each button from top to bottom? The button would be created in a random order, so I don't think that using the index of each button in the Controls collection of the Panel would suffix.
There is a varchar column in the database table in this format of military time 1230 or 1750 or 1320 and that field get populated into a gridview in asp. I need to convert that string to standard time. I have tried the DateFormatString and nothing seems to work.
I am trying to make a format string to order a list in richtextbox. I already done this, however not as I like to.
So I want this symbol: <-- symbol And I only have got other symbol that I can't tell you guys which is. The code that I use is:
"{\rtf1\ansi\deff0\deftab720{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss MS Sans Serif;}{\f1\froman\fcharset2 Symbol;}{\f2\froman\fprq2 Times New Roman;}{\f3\fnil\fprq2\fcharset2 Wingdings;}}" & vbCrLf & _
I've got a couple of these NumericUpDown controls I put on a form. Without describing too much about the form I basically want to update some variables each time one of these NumUD controls changes value. So for each NumUD I have a call to a Recalculate subroutine within their "changedValue" event.
There are actually two problems. First, if I initialize the "Value" property to something other than zero in VB2010 at DESIGN TIME it won't even open the form when I hit RUN. It gives me a "No Source Available. No symbols loaded for any call stack frame" error. The error box says "InvalidOperationException" was not handled. So if I try to set the initial value of the Value property to anything but zero of either I get this error.
I dynamically add picture boxes to a vb.net form. However, when I add the new picture box, it is always under/below/behind the picture boxes that I previously created. Is it possible to change it so that the newly created picture box would always be in front of the others?
This is part of the last coding that codeorder helped me with. I didn't include this in the last post because I thought this was something that I was going to be able to do. Unfortunately, it is not working properly. In addition to the controls being removed, the control rows after the removed row should be changed so it's still in sequential order. Private Sub PictureBoxRemove_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim RowRemove As String = CType(sender, PictureBox).Name.Replace("PictureBoxRemove", "")
I've been building controls for many years professionally and personally, but even back in VB6 days I just could not work this out. After all this time I remembered about it again. If I create a usercontrol/containercontrol and add one or more controls to the controls surface, I just cannot figure out how to access the controls at design time.
I am using VS 2005 pro and VB.NET. How do you format the DataGridView.DefaultCellStyle.format property for zip codes and phone numbers. I have a zip code and phone number column(s) that I want to be formatted. I have tried a lot of different things:
Zip code: "99999-0000" or "Phone Number: "(999)000-0000" or "(000)000-0000" and the like So far nothing has worked. I can get my date columns formatted correctly, but not these. Can any one give me some examples that work?
My form contains a datagrid and a checked listbox. The listbox is populated on the form_load event. There's a function called when the datagrid's SelectionChanged event is triggered that modifies the checkmarks in the listbox. It all works fine when I manually click on any item in the datagrid.
However, the very first time the form runs, the checkmarks are not affected, even though the first item in the datagrid appears selected. I discovered that this is because the actual listbox is not yet populated on the form at the time the very first SelectionChanged event is triggered. So when the function tries setting the checkboxes, it doesn't get anywhere, since it doesn't see any items in the listbox.
Somehow the datagrid is getting populated, even before the form_load event is triggered. I need the listbox to be populated before the datagrid is populated, but I have no idea how to control this.
The code generator creates code with references to a component I am using, before it's dependent components (datasets) are initalized. Although I can correct this by editing the form.designer.vb file, everytime I make a change on the form the code is re-generated in the wrong order. Where does VS2008 store information about the order of the components for code generation.
This Runs: ' 'AppointmentBindingSource ' Me.AppointmentBindingSource.DataMember = "appointment"
I have datagridview1 " order by data,Time" its working fine ,Now I am moving a row from DGV2 to DGV1 and how to override the Date,Time Order which is in DGV1 so only that row comes first.
I have a class where it's problematic to relay on the properties being serialized in alphabetical order at design time.In other words, property Z must be serialized before property A.The problem arises because property property Z clears property A whenever it changes - which happens in InitializeComponent.I work around this problem by setting a FirstTime flag, but that seems messy.
I'm trying to replace one character at a time in order to store its index, therefore if the replace is used all characters are changed and I cannot keep the index of all characters.
How can I add controls to a form in code and set the properties of the controls using the With statement? Also I would like to know how to add a container control and then add a control to that container.
I had a weird series of errors involving e.Graphics.DrawString() when painting a panel.I am using a barcode font [Code 128] with a library that converts text to the proper format for Barcode readers. That's fine, however, when I draw it to the panel, that's where things stop being fine:But, here's where things get funky. When I put it into a TextBox instead of drawing it via Graphics.DrawString(), everything is peachy:In fact, the TextBox one looks much better than the Graphics.DrawString() one! Am I doing something wrong?[code]
In ASP.Net Web Forms there are cases that I've come across that create order dependent code. As an obvious code smell I'm looking for solutions to solve this problem.
A pseudo-code example would be: Calling Code :: Page.aspx
protected void Page_Load(...) { var control = LoadControl("ControlX.ascx"); // Ugly since the control's constructor is not used by LoadControl control.SetDependencies(...);
[Code]...
LoadControl has two signatures, the one used above accepts a string for the control classes physical location and correctly creates the child controls. Whereas the second signature accepts the control class as a class type, and any parameters for the constructor, however the child controls are not created as detailed in TRULY Understanding Dynamic Controls.
So how can I eliminate this order dependency in the cleanest way? My first thought is that if I dynamically created the child controls in ControlX, but then that can be cumbersome for larger controls.
I am currently trying to work out the code for ascending order in vb 2010. I have 12 textboxes with values in that i want to use to sort into ascending order but what ive tried so far isnt working.
i seem to be having issues with my simple count down project. The count down work how I want it, there is also a pic of a rocket that move up when the count down button (Button4 - the form was set up in class as a quick example, so there was no need to name the buttons) is pressed. The problem is that the count down "10....1...Blast Off" shows after the rocket has moved up, I want the countdown text to show, then the rocket to move. The countdown is outputted to a ListBox.Here is my code thus far: (I have re-worked is a bit, starting to look messy)
[Code]...
I am not sure if I should be doing it as a function, that was just one of my attempts to get it to output everything in the right order.
i want to do this:when user click save button, the form must be check first..if user did not insert the required data, user are not allow to save form..
the code:
Private Sub AssetMasterBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles AssetMasterBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click 'if group code is null, user are not allow save...
[code]....
what is the code in order to have the same function as e.cancel?e.cancel is used in formclosing event. which is to stop the form from closing
I don't know much about skin. I want to apply common format for text box or labels or grid-view in my project. Is it possible by applying Skin to project. I searched on internet.so what i have to do to complete this task?
I am working on a windows application project on NIST time synchronization, but can't get a proper solution for it. If anyone can send me the code to synchronize time from the global time server in VB.net or C # code
