Controlling The Order Of Controls Being Populated On A Form In VB 2008?

My form contains a datagrid and a checked listbox. The listbox is populated on the form_load event. There's a function called when the datagrid's SelectionChanged event is triggered that modifies the checkmarks in the listbox. It all works fine when I manually click on any item in the datagrid.
However, the very first time the form runs, the checkmarks are not affected, even though the first item in the datagrid appears selected. I discovered that this is because the actual listbox is not yet populated on the form at the time the very first SelectionChanged event is triggered. So when the function tries setting the checkboxes, it doesn't get anywhere, since it doesn't see any items in the listbox.
Somehow the datagrid is getting populated, even before the form_load event is triggered. I need the listbox to be populated before the datagrid is populated, but I have no idea how to control this.

I'm in the middle of using Visual Basic (Visual Studio 2010) to create dynamically created controls. Essentially what I'm doing is creating a label, a textbox, a label (which will act as a stopwatch), and a button (to control said stopwatch). Each set of controls will be arranged (and named) like this in a row: [Code] I've gotten the bit about creating the elements dynamically as well as creating them within in a panel with a particular number attached to the end of its name on the form that I've created. What I would like to do is wire an event for the button that was dynamically created to control the stopwatch timer that was created through the same event. So in short, I'm asking how do you wire an event to control a particularly dynamic button?

How to properly create custom controls containing populated lists?For example: I need a combobox control which contains a list of products, then I would reuse this control in other project.

and it works but when I run the project each item is duplicated - this is because list is populated twice. First when user add a control to form, second by designer when project is started.I already found a solution to prevent adding items in edit mode, but this is not what I need. I would like to have them existing in edit mode so they could be edited at this point.

I have a form with a datarepeater that contains various controls (i.e. datetimepickers, text boxes, combobox) that are populated via a binding source. I also have other controls on the form that are not part of the data repeater. I would like to force validating all controls after the data is populated. I have successfully forced validating the non-datarepeater controls using Me.ValidateChildren() at the end of my load event. However, it does not fire the validating events for the controls within the data repeater. I have unsuccessfully tried many different attempts to set and move focus within the datarepeater controls trying to get the validating events kicked off. I am not sure where would be the best place (e.g. in drawItem? in ItemCloned?) to place the code and what it should be exactly.
Here was my latest attempt:

However, I have the unusual situation that the data coming into my form is already bad for some of the controls. The purpose of the form is to validate the data coming in to it and from user-input. I am newbie with vb.net.

I have a DataGridView on a form that is being populated from a SQL table dataset by giving criteria from a previous form. I have 6 columns in the dataset, of which the last column should be combo box column containing items "Done" and "Pending". How do I make this bound column to a combo box column and display the value as well as the alternate item too in the combo box?

Suppose that one has a panel an inside it there are many buttons with Dock=Top. The button would tend to be stacked on top of the panel. How can I get a reference for each button from top to bottom? The button would be created in a random order, so I don't think that using the index of each button in the Controls collection of the Panel would suffix.

The end result we're looking for is a slideshow effect where a section of our main form shows a sequence of secondary forms which fade in/out on a timer.We can fade the forms in/out when they're shown individually, but the opacity setting doesn't seem to work when they're shown inside another form. What I've got, for testing, is code that should simply reduce the opacity to 10% after showing the inner form for a half-second, long enough to notice the reduction-except I don't see any change.

The opacity change takes effect without refreshing the form when shown 'stand-alone' but I've tried refreshing both the inner & outer form anyway, with no change.

I dynamically add picture boxes to a vb.net form. However, when I add the new picture box, it is always under/below/behind the picture boxes that I previously created. Is it possible to change it so that the newly created picture box would always be in front of the others?

This is part of the last coding that codeorder helped me with. I didn't include this in the last post because I thought this was something that I was going to be able to do. I have a situation where I need to display a Modal Window from a vb.net module and feed the contents to that modal form from the module.I am showing the form , feeding data to it from a class module and trapping the events in it using a timer control from the module.It works fine with Show() method but it doesn't with ShowDialog().If I used ShowDialog() then I was not able to continue with the code followed by it and not able to update any contents in the modal form.
I am using VS2003 version.Is there any workaround to this?

Is there a way to control the size of a minimized MDI form. When I minimize a child form, it apprears at the bottom with the form buttons (minimize, restore and maximize) and just about 2 or 3 characters of the Title Text. I would like to have more of the title text showing so the user can figure out what window he wants to restore if he has a couple of them minimized. If not that, is there a way to have a "tooltip" popup when I move the mouse over the minimized form.

I am working on an application that requires buttons and links to be added during run time, it's a bit like a flow chart. The buttons are used to display information similar to a multi line text box, but I also use the click, double click and mouse events for these buttons. The links are drawn as label controls. My problem is that I want to control the format order of these controls with the buttons always being on the top layer and the labels one layer back so that when labels are added they aways pass behind the buttons. If this was done at design time it is very easy to use the menu Format > Order to get overlapping controls displayed the way I want. But, the controls placed on the form at run time do not have a Format or Order property.

The code generator creates code with references to a component I am using, before it's dependent components (datasets) are initalized. Although I can correct this by editing the form.designer.vb file, everytime I make a change on the form the code is re-generated in the wrong order. Where does VS2008 store information about the order of the components for code generation.

With many of the programs that I use, I have noticed that the file dialog boxes automatically enter a new folder (if I create a folder thru the dialog box). But my OpenFileDialog boxes don't do that in my programs.When I open the OpenFileDialog and press the New Folder button, the box stays in the current directory and I am forced to click into the new folder. I have researched the OpernFileDialog and I don't understand how to change this behavior. I want to eliminate this extra click to enter the new folder.

I have a form with MenuStrip, ToolStrip & StatusStrip. Placed a panel with a 5000 x 7000px image and scroll bars are on form and scroll the image fine. Problem is that all controls appear to have changed size to size of image and also scroll with it horizontally. When scrolling vertically, the image covers up the menu and tool strips. How I can keep the controls on top so they don't attach to the image in the panel?

I have Winforms application that holds dozens of controls.Now I'm planning another functionality where I have to move some of the controls and put others instead of them.I have to let the users to choose during runtime whether they prefer ver A or Ver B (means the other controls).
I have doubts what's the best practice to replace the controls.Should I hide the controls and replace them by others in runtime? (then the form may look messy during design time)Should I place them in a panel/group box and then replace the panels? (could be problem since I have some controls that should be displayed on both situations)

I need a quick way to control an external application. For example, I want to be able to... let's say... click a button and open up paint and zoom to 200%. This isn't my intention but that's basically the functionality that I need. I figured there must be a simple way to do this. I need to open the application, make choices (not all have keyboard shortcuts) and type in information.I've come across "shell" but that doesn't get me anywhere except opening the application.

i have a winform and i have about 30 labels and 30 picture boxes on it. What i would like to do is fill each label and picturebox with a value and image from a backend database. I could have easily done this in vb6 using control struture , for eg.

I have a form that sits on the user's desktop. It's only purpose is to display specific information about the computer. The layout is basically setup like this:

I want to be able to give the user the option to display whatever data they choose. In doing so, I'd like the form to resize itself based on the how many labels are in the form and for the labels to align vertically.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? For the form, I was thinking I could get the location of the last label and offset it's size by the location, or something similar.
