button 1 = hidden button on usercontrol1
button2 = visible button on form1
form1.button2 should click usercontrol.button1
I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.
How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.
I have a main form that has a dynamically generated treeview and also a panel control. Depending on the selection made within the treeview the panel docks 1 of three diffrent usercontrols which are full sub forms(done for ease of modifing design of sub form rather than layering panels on top of panels).Upon button click withing usercontrol i wish to trigger event within main form.For example delete button wich then triggers to remove current selected node from treeview. code for 1 of three diffrent user controls

The end result we're looking for is a slideshow effect where a section of our main form shows a sequence of secondary forms which fade in/out on a timer.We can fade the forms in/out when they're shown individually, but the opacity setting doesn't seem to work when they're shown inside another form. What I've got, for testing, is code that should simply reduce the opacity to 10% after showing the inner form for a half-second, long enough to notice the reduction-except I don't see any change.

The opacity change takes effect without refreshing the form when shown 'stand-alone' but I've tried refreshing both the inner & outer form anyway, with no change.

View 4 RepliesI have a situation where I need to display a Modal Window from a vb.net module and feed the contents to that modal form from the module.I am showing the form , feeding data to it from a class module and trapping the events in it using a timer control from the module.It works fine with Show() method but it doesn't with ShowDialog().If I used ShowDialog() then I was not able to continue with the code followed by it and not able to update any contents in the modal form.
I am using VS2003 version.Is there any workaround to this?

Is there a way to control the size of a minimized MDI form. When I minimize a child form, it apprears at the bottom with the form buttons (minimize, restore and maximize) and just about 2 or 3 characters of the Title Text. I would like to have more of the title text showing so the user can figure out what window he wants to restore if he has a couple of them minimized. If not that, is there a way to have a "tooltip" popup when I move the mouse over the minimized form.

Typically what I want to do is:
1. load the flash page in a web browser control.
2. Move the cursor to a specific position
3. Click
4. repeat 2 and 3 a couple of times.
My form contains a datagrid and a checked listbox. The listbox is populated on the form_load event. There's a function called when the datagrid's SelectionChanged event is triggered that modifies the checkmarks in the listbox. It all works fine when I manually click on any item in the datagrid.
However, the very first time the form runs, the checkmarks are not affected, even though the first item in the datagrid appears selected. I discovered that this is because the actual listbox is not yet populated on the form at the time the very first SelectionChanged event is triggered. So when the function tries setting the checkboxes, it doesn't get anywhere, since it doesn't see any items in the listbox.
Somehow the datagrid is getting populated, even before the form_load event is triggered. I need the listbox to be populated before the datagrid is populated, but I have no idea how to control this.

I just discovered the joys of UserControl's and I was wondering if it is possible to populate the usercontrol with data from a database in the UserControl's Form.Load event instead of the form the userControl is placed on. I feel it would make using the control a lot easier if it just populated itself without anymore code.I tried it with a ListView but it gave me a bunch of errors, so I didn't know if it had to be done a certain way or if it was just one of those things that doesn't work no matter what.

I have a form that I am managing, works well, but now I am thinking about using a usercontrol embedded in the control form. Is it possible to manage the same form through an usercontrol on the control form? Dont think I phrased that right, say if you had form1 that loads(manages) form2, which I can do, how can I manage form2 with an usercontrol embedded in form1? Is this possible?

View 4 RepliesDescription of problem: I have a simple form with a usercontrol on it. There is a drop down box with a list of departments in it and a button, this is all in the usercontrol. I pick a department then press the button to view the employees in a listview for the department picked. All worked fine until I moved the code for drop down and button into the usercontrol from the form.
The data is taken from oracle database express 10G edition and I am using a cursor package (CP) and I pass parameters from the code to the oracle procedure within the CP. One of these parameters is the selected department from the drop down list (which I have picked) and my code does not seem to be picking up this parameter, it keps saying that the bold bit of code below is nothing:
myCmd.Parameters.Add(New OracleParameter("n_dept", OracleDbType.Varchar2)).Value = usr1.cmbDepartments.SelectedItem
Everything else seems to be fine. Because it is not picking up the selected item then the dr.read (no data by the looks of it) is false and it just falls out without populating any employees for that dept in the listview.
Does anyone care to take a stab at suggesting what might be wrong? Why won't it pick up the selected item in the user control I have just picked it in?
I just downloaded VB.NET Express 2010 and I am trying to make a user control.I start out by makeing a new project then to add a usercontrol I goto Project->Add New Item Then I Add a usercontrol.But I cannot see my usercontrol on the toolbar like you used to in VB6, I even tryed draging the control to the toolbox but it still it will not shows. Can someone help me cos I am sort of new to this .NET stuff.

I have CovButton.bmp added to the project and have it's build set to 'Embedded Resource'.However i can't compile it because i'm getting an error with the line continuation character saying the following "Attribute specifier is not a complete statement. Use a line continuation to apply the attribute to the following statement.".If i remove the space between the > and _ it gives me the error "Line continuation character '_' must be preceded by at least one white space and must be the last character on the line."
I'm trying to create a grid usercontrol.This means that when i press "UP" it goes to the cell above (...so on for all directions) tab goes to the right and enter goes down.Now all these keys (excluding enter) change control focus so i've got a problem using them.How can i lock focus on the control so that these keys won't change it and so that i can use these keys for other things?

For example when you mousedown on the usercontrol i want it to act as if the button is being pressed in, to do this i make the caption move 2 pixels down and to the left. And then reverse this when the usercontrol mouseup is triggered.I think my code is correct but i'm not 100% sure what i'm doing with me.refresh and the usercontrol_paint events.

A form's key events will fire when you press a key. Place a control on that form and it won't happen any more because that control has focus. There are exceptions to this however as you will see if you place just a h or v scrollbar on the form. The key event will fire because the scrollbars can't receive focus as is demonstrated by the following

So I've made my own special scrollbar usercontrol and i can't figure out how to have it leave the key events alone. I'm pretty sure that the problem is that my usercontrol can receive focus at the moment.
I found that the way of doing this is "SetStyle(Windows.Forms.ControlStyles.Selectable, False)". I put that in the new event of my usercontrol and now it looks like this:

I've got an MDI form with child forms that I'd like to refactor to a single form with a tab control containing child controls, in order to move away from MDI clunkiness. When looking at converting the child forms into child controls (or usercontrols), I do see that I'd lose the FormClosing event, which some of the child forms use.
I can override Dispose to handle some of the functionality, but in some cases I'd like to cancel the closing event. Also, I'd like this event to be called before the control is closed even when the form it's on isn't closing, so wiring the control to the form's closing event isn't an option.

I'm using the devexpress xtratab control so the code might look a bit different than the default vb.net tab control.
Now in my MainTab user control file file, I can't for the life of me figure out how to call a control in the form1 where the xtra tab control is placed on. "Me.Parent.Dispose" works for closing the tab when executed via the MainTab control, but that's as far as I can get for communicating with the parent from.
I'm not sure if I have to reference something in the MainTab user control or what in order to communicate with any objects on the default form1.
