IDE :: Set Project Default For Winforms Projects S/ Default Modifier For Controls Added To Winforms Is Private

May 28, 2010

Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).

Change The Default Modifier From Friend To Private In The Windows Forms Designer In VS 2008?

Jul 2, 2010

When I develop a Windows Forms app in Visual Studio using C#, every control that I add to my form is by default marked as private, which is what I want.

When using VB.NET, every control is by default marked as Friend (the equivalent of internal in C#), which is not what I want.

Can I just change this default? It seems like surely it's a setting somewhere.

Overriding Default Property Values In .Net, WinForms?

Jan 9, 2010

I create a class "Planet" that can be inherited. One of the purposes of inheriting is to create a template with different default property values. Eg:

Public Sub New
MyBase.New
MyBase.ForeColor = Red

[code]....

Now, to stop the defaults serializing in the InitializeComponent method, there are 2 ways:If I've implemented the properties using the 'DefaultValue' attribute, and made them overridable, the attribute can be overriden with the new value. The problem with this is, there's no way to just make just the attributes overridable, as opposed to the whole property.I could implement every property with protected Reset'PropertyName' and ShouldSerialize'PropertyName' methods. However, this is a bit of a pain in the arse.Is it, generally, an important consideration to ensure that someone who overrides your base class has the ability to change the default values of a property?

Replace Default Windows Cursor With A Custom Cursor (winforms)?

Feb 16, 2011

This VS010 solution is not providing my intended outcome as a custom override of a 'crosshair' or 'reticle' cursor e.Graphics.DrawPath() is the function that isn't working. This

WORKING solution demonstrates how it's supposed to work. The additonal PictureBox added to a Panel is, for reasons I don't understand, not allowing the 'new' cursor to appear.

Option Strict On

Winforms Menu Item Shortcuts Overriding Default Shortcuts?

Aug 19, 2010

In a VB.NET Winforms application, I have a form that contains both a datagridview and a textbox. I have some menu item entries that have shortcuts of Ctrl + X, Ctrl + C, and Ctrl + V that operate on the datagridview. However, these override the default cut, copy, and paste shortcuts for the textbox. How can I make the menu shortcuts only apply when the datagridview has focus?

Share WinForms And Code Between 2 Projects?

Jun 7, 2010

I have a working Windows Forms app (split into an EXE and a few DLLs). Now I've been asked to look at creating another app (MyAppLite) that has only a very small subset of the functionality. Think of it as similar to MS Word Viewer vs. MS Word.

Everything that I need to build MyAppLite is contained in the main solution - essentially I need to use a couple of the WinForms and whatever bits in the DLLs they call into.

What would be the best way to do this?

I was thinking of creating another Project in my solution for MyAppLite, then adding the necessary source files as links (using Add Existing Item > Add As Link in Solution Explorer).

I definitely wouldn't want to maintain 2 copies of the source code. FYI it's a .NET 2.0 VB app, using VS2008.

C# - Usercontrol Scaling When Added At Runtime In .Net, WinForms?

Apr 2, 2010

[URL]its a free hoster, so you have to wait 10 seconds.First here's the steps to replicate, then I'll explain what the problem is:

(1) Create a System.Windows.Forms.UserControl and add a button to the bottom-right hand corner. Leave the button anchor as default (top-left). Add some more buttons dotted around so that you can see that they scale correctly.

(2) Add the UserControl to a form in the construtor, after the InitializeComponent call.

(3) Run the form.

(4) Increase the form font size some way (eg click a form button).

All the controls within the usercontrol scale perfectly but the usercontrol itself doesn't. It's width and height are increased by way too much. Look at the margin now between the button at the bottom-right hand corner and the usercontrol. To correct the problem, the usercontrol must be added before the InitializeComponent call.If it wasn't possible for me to add the usercontrol before InitializeComponent, is there any way for me to correct the scaling?

Setting A 'default' Value To Controls (textbox) (loop Controls)?

Nov 11, 2009

I have aspx form with several textboxes. They are populated with values from a table via retrieval of a dataview. If the row count for the dataview is 0, then I'd like to reset the values in all textboxes. How can I loop through all the textboxes and set a default value?I've tried the following, but no sucess.

For Each ctrl As Control In Page.Form.Controls
If TypeOf ctrl Is WebControls.TextBox Then
CType(ctrl, WebControls.TextBox).Text = ""
End If
Next

My first For Loop was using Page.Controls but it returned only 1 count. The textboxes are inside a tabpanel (ajax), so do I have to locate the tabpage and then find all it's controls (for each tabpage)?

Sql - Equivalent For Value-property For Controls In Winforms?

Is the an equivalent in winforms for the Value-property, or will I have to identify rows based on the text in the control?

WinForms: Locating The Relative Position Of Two Controls

Jul 9, 2010

I'm writing a VB.Net WinForms application that has multiple data girds on any given form. On one such form, the data grids are loaded into split containers which in turn are located on a tab control. The load method for each data grid is threaded so that an animated "Loading" form can be shown. I would like to position the new loading form (which is smaller than the grid) on top of, and preferably in the center of, the grid that is loading. Whats the easiest way to find the grids location within the main form so that I can adjust the loading forms location?

Have Forms In Sub-namespaces Of A WinForms Project?

Oct 15, 2010

If I create a new class library project in VB.NET, I can create subfolders (a la C#), add WinForm objects to these subfolders, and then specify a namespace:

Namespace Sub1.Sub2
Public Class SomeForm
Public Sub New()
InitializeComponent()

[code]...

This resolves as ProjectRootNamespace.Sub1.Sub2.SomeForm, which is good. However, if I create a new WinForms project in VB.NET, and attempt the same thing, I get this error in the designer:The class SomeForm can be designed, but is not the first class in the file. Visual Studio requires that designers use the first class in the file. Move the class code so that it is the first class in the file and try loading the designer again. Is there a way to have forms in sub-namespaces of a VB.NET WinForms app instead of in the root namespace?

.net - Create Custom DataTable Which Is Bindable To WinForms Controls?

Aug 25, 2011

Our shop primarily use "ADO objects" (I'm referring to DataSet, DataTable, and DataRow) for marshaling around data and manipulating it on forms and in grids. We are experimenting with creating shop-flavored counterparts to the native ADO objects so that we can impose our in-house standards on top of them. Implementing this is straightforward with one exception: I want our objects to be bindable to controls.

I'm aware of IList, IBindingList, BindingSource, etc. and have looked at and experimented with these, but I am falling short when it comes to making a class with no hard property names bindable. The native ADO objects are not strongly typed by default. You have column values that you access via the Item property (e.g. row("Age") or row.Item("Age")). The binding examples I've found online deal with strong-typed objects (e.g. row.Age). Essentially, we want to create custom ADO objects (not inherited from the native ones) that still retain their ability to bind to controls. In a grid I would expect to see columns Name, Age and Occupation from a row where these properties are exposed via row("Name"), row("Age") and row("Occupation"). This must be doable as this is exactly what the native DataTable and DataRow provide.

Save Data From WinForms Controls To A SQL Server Database?

Jun 29, 2010

I do have Visual VB.NET 2008 Express installed, SQL Server 2005 express installed, and I do know how to start a brand new project in VB.NET, and then add the database to the solution explorer, modify the tables/fields, etc. I know how to create a WinForm, add some controls (and name them and whatnot).....

So in MS Access I know how to use VB in the Code-Behind-Form to use the form in an unbound manner, and insert data into the tables via Visual Basic with SQL statements. I am looking to be able to begin the same sort of thing here, because I guess I have to start somewhere?

Winforms :: Why Changing Form Font Resize Some Controls

All my forms inherits from one base form where we handle background paint and set standard properties. Recently, I think of cheching if the app is running on Vista or Later to use Segoe UI font, and I added this. The controls and forms seems to be thinner (in width), so square picturebox became vertical rectangules!

WinForms Text Controls - Keypress Event Handler

Mar 14, 2011

In connection with a windows form's text control the keypress event handler provides a key's identity through the KeyChar property of the event argument. This works fine for all alphanumeric keys and Ctl-a ... Ctl-z, Backspace etc. but does nothing for such keys as Insert, Delete, Home, End, and the navigation keys. I would also want to read Ctl and Alt keys combinations etc. I have done these thing before, too many years ago, but forgotten it all. Tried the reference manual, but have not enough years left to succeed that way.
