Setting A 'default' Value To Controls (textbox) (loop Controls)?

I have aspx form with several textboxes.They are populated with values from a table via retrieval of a dataview.If the row count for the dataview is 0, then I'd like to reset the values in all textboxes. How can I loop through all the textboxes and set a default value?I've tried the following, but no sucess.
For Each ctrl As Control In Page.Form.Controls
If TypeOf ctrl Is WebControls.TextBox Then
CType(ctrl, WebControls.TextBox).Text = ""
End If
Next
My first For Loop was using Page.Controls but it returned only 1 count.The textboxes are inside a tabpanel (ajax), so do I have to locate the tabpage and then find all it's controls (for each tabpage)?

I am rather irritated at this. I have no clue why looping through controls on a form and in groupboxes leaves out 75% of the controls.
Here's the code I have:

Dim gbControl As Control
Dim gbbox As Control

I want to have setting save all settings to an ini file, and not have to reprogram the saving routine when I add a group box or control. At random times, any number of controls can be disabled, checkboxes can be checked and unchecked, radiobuttons can be checked and unchecked. Regardless of the state of the control, I want the control to show up in the loop. But they don't. Only controls that are enabled and only checkboxes that are checked, every other control state is ignored. That's crap, and is definitely not what is needed by any programmer of any type. We're capable of determining if a control is enabled, hidden, checked, visible, and otherwise.
How do I get the controls to be included in the loop regardless of their state?

I have menu item, in which I have specified ShortCutKeys as "Del". On click of menu item I have called specific method. I have one form on which one textbox is placed. When I hit the "Del" key the same method which gets called on menu item click is fired. I want the default behaviour to be followed by the textbox. how to suppress the event to be fired and to achive the default behaviour of the textbox or other controls present on the form.

There is newer code in a follow up post. I suggest using the code in the later post rather than the code in this one. You can still read this post though. When designing a user interface, one should be conscious of how many individual controls are required to implement the functionality. In some cases an initial design may begin with many buttons or textboxes (for example) but then further review of
the actual required functionality allows for a reduction in the number of unique controls.
But other times, there isn't a better way (which will still make sense to the user of the application) then to have a series of many repeated controls. So in the cases where one can be certain that the best UI implementation for an application will require the use of multiple copies of a given control, then it often becomes necessary to maintain some method of managing all of those controls at various points
throughout the application. Doing so typically requires that one build up some collection of controls which can then be accessed by index in order to work with any given control; but this can lead to a lot of clutter in the code file which handles these control's events. For instance there will be some kind of collection declaration, some recursive routine to find all of the controls of interest, and then any number of event handler methods with long lists of Handles clauses, or additional code loops to wire up the event handling for each control.
Purpose Since most of this functionality could be considered a requirement regardless of the type of control being managed, or its required functionality, it may make sense to wrap all of the control management functionality into a single class. And since our first requirement is a collection of controls, then a base collection class could be the perfect starting point for our control manager. There are a number of existing thread around this topic, with some recent (at the time of this writing) ones being:[URL]..In this, and related, threads I have posted examples of a simple TextBoxManager and ButtonManager control. But again, with so much similar functionality required regardless of the control being managed, it would be technically possible to create a generic ControlManager(Of T As Control) class which can manage any type of control.

So in summary, one can facilitate managing a large number of user interface controls by building a "control manager" class which both encapsulates the list of control instances, and deals with adding and removing defined event handlers for every control it manages. The generic control manager class itself can be inherited and extended into a more specific class on a per-application basis in order to provide more application-specific functionality. Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).

Is there any way to change the default value(s) of controls? How about setting the default value of Textbox.Multiline to True which would make it easier to arrange on the form.

So, I'm adding a label programatically and I'm in need of altering the top margin a little bit to the value 8. I can't do that the obvious way, so what's wrong with my thinking?

This gives me the error "Expression is a value and therefore cannot be the target of an assignment".

How do I set the default font for controls (VB 2008), e.g., labels, text boxes, etc. I see how to set default fonts for objects in the IDE but not how to set the default for controls I add to forms. I hope I don't have to create custom controls as this would be time-consuming.

I have a problem during defining a Sub routine in VB.Net. I am defining a sub routine which is as under
Private Sub ActivateControls(rdbutton as RadioButton, Optional txt as Textbox, Optional txt2 as Textbox)

When I call this sub routine It gives me the Error that Each Optional Parameter must specify a default value. So, Here I can't understand that what can be the default value of a textbox. What default value I can use here to remove this error.

I was just wondering is there a way to change the default name when you add a new control? I like to name my controls btnSomething etc... and if i could change the default names of added buttons from Button1, Button2 etc to btn1, btn2 etc.It will save me time when renaming.(Same applies for toolstripmenuitem buttons)Actually what would be ideal is if when i add a button, i directly go to the input for Text, and when i change that for the first time (like with toolstripmenuitems) the name changes according to the text (e.g. when you add a toolstripmenuitem in a context menu strip, if you set the text to "Reset" the name becomes ResetToolStripMenuItem. I have a panel with 5 labels and 5 listviews in it. By default they are hidden. At runtime I want only the ones shown that are needed. For example, if there are enough players for three tables then three tables should show up. I know how to make the controls visible, but not sure how to control how many are actually displayed. I also think I may have to do seperate loops and seperate the control types?

But I don't know if i posted this at the right place. I am making 40 textboxes inside a panel. And this textboxes I set it to visible=FALSE. Then I have another textbox named txtNoteam in which once the user will enter a number in this txtbox which is less than or equal to 40, those textboxes will be set to true starting from textbox1 to textbox40 depending on the number entered by the user. Example: user enters 3, then textbox 1 to textbox 3 will be set to visible.
I was successful in doing this except one thing, instead of textbox 1 to textbox 3 will be set to visible, it's the textbox 38 to textbox 40 will be set first. This means it will start from the last textbox to the first textbox instead of from textbox1 to the last textbox.
I need your help on what should I do for this to be able to set it to visible from the 1st textbox to the last textbox or is there any other ways of doing this?

I have a nested custom control that I need to set focus on. I have it all internally wired up to automatically set the focus when the form loads, but when it comes up on screen, the designated accept button for the parent form is in focus instead. Even when is disassociate the accept button it still does not set correctly. How can I ensure my desired control gets focus.

In VB6 I would simply retrieve the user font setting from the .ini file, load into variables and then apply to the appropriate control.
text1.fontbold = userfontbold
text1.fontitalic = userfontitalic
text1.fontunderline = userfontunderline
etc.
I'm struggling to understand how to do this vb.net The following code works, but sets all three at one time

When I set a control to "enabled = false", I want the textbox backcolor and forecolor to remain clear and distinct (white and back - respectively). Is there a place in VS 08 where I can define default appearnce for disabled controls? Or is there a beter way to lock control values other than using "enabled", that woulddn't affect apperance?

I can use the below code snippet to clear the text from each textbox on a form.

But if I want to use it to ensure that all radiobuttons in a group of radio buttons are unchecked then it doesn't work i.e.

ctl.checked = false

Next
I'm assuming it is because the checked property is not common to all controls.

I can't use the normal method, my controls (picture boxes) names contain numbers such as 00, 01, 02 etc which corrispond to my multidimenional array.
I'm attempting change the picturebox's values in a for loop via the counter in the loop, for example:
For i = 1 To 4
PictureBox(i).enabled = False 'Picturebox1 will be the first one(counter starts at 1)
Next
I basically need to access each one as I would with an array, I can't type the full names out, can only refer to them via their names + counter number because I don't know what control name I would be dealing with at that time in the loop.

I have a vb.net 2010 form with 22 data bound controls from two tables held in a dataset which is navigated by a bindingnavigator. This successfully adds deletes and updates. However what I need is when adding a new record I need some of the fields to be pre filled out. More specifically I have points balance fields etc which could be any value but will normally be 0 on a new customer so I want to initialize them to 0 when adding new records.

What I am trying to do is dynamically create a bunch of dropdown lists and then I want to loop through them and update the database with those values, but the problem I am facing is that I create the dropdown lists, but then when I go back to loop through them they are no longer in the panel. I don't know why but when I am debugging I have a count of 50 controls in pnlTeacherSelect right up until I press the button that calls prcChoose.

I'm creating 50 picbox in code. they are named Area1_1 to Area 1_50.
They all have different XY position and different size, setup in % of the form width.

Basically what I have are two loops, one inside the other, that will run until the given condition is met. Exactly what I want. My problem is that I want to be able to use the controls, like buttons, while a loop is going on.
I originally did not think of this until I had built this part of my program, what I want to know is if there is a way to use controls while a loop is going on or if their is an alternative.
1)I know timers can be used to meet these goals, but they did not work out as I had hoped and using two timers (1 to represent each loop) I do not believe is efficient.
2)I have considered using recursion, but have found this may not be very efficient either and am not quite sure if this will do what I want.
These loops run as long as the number the user inputted. So it could theoretically run for 100,000+ times. I am not looking for speed, but it would be good if there were a faster method that allowed me to use controls while it loops.
