Setting Font Properties For Controls One At A Time?
Sep 25, 2011
In VB6 I would simply retrieve the user font setting from the .ini file, load into variables and then apply to the appropriate control.
text1.fontbold = userfontbold
text1.fontitalic = userfontitalic
text1.fontunderline = userfontunderline
etc.
I'm struggling to understand how to do this vb.net The following code works, but sets all three at one time
Text1.Font = New Font("Courier", 10, FontStyle.Bold Or FontStyle.Italic Or FontStyle.Underline)Since the user can have many different combinations of settings, I would like to be able to add just one of these properties at a time, but can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I'm making an editor for my app. which allows the user to change properties of the controls including the font.I'm storing the values in a collection but I'm having trouble re-setting the fontstyle from the stored value. I'm storing the font information like so...
FontString = SpeedGroupbox.Font.Name & "|" & SpeedGroupbox.Font.Size & "|" & SpeedGroupbox.Font.Style
EditedControlsCollection.Add(FontString, "SpeedGroupbox.Font")

I am using visual inheritance and was wondering if there is a way to change the properties of inherited controls at design time, preferably in the form designer. If not, then in the designer code. I have my control declared as Public in the base class. I can access it in the child form code, but not in the form designer. Is this just not possible?

I'm trying to use Linq to loop through all fonts in the %windir%Fonts folder and find the one that has a property title of "Arial" (or any Font Family name supplied), but I can't seem to access the font properties (things like "Title", "Font style", "Designed for", etc.).
The following is only giving me the basic file info:
Dim fontDir = Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("windir") & "Fonts"
Dim fontFiles = From file In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(fontDir)
[code].....

I'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)

I have aspx form with several textboxes.They are populated with values from a table via retrieval of a dataview.If the row count for the dataview is 0, then I'd like to reset the values in all textboxes. How can I loop through all the textboxes and set a default value?I've tried the following, but no sucess.
For Each ctrl As Control In Page.Form.Controls
If TypeOf ctrl Is WebControls.TextBox Then
CType(ctrl, WebControls.TextBox).Text = ""
End If
Next
My first For Loop was using Page.Controls but it returned only 1 count.The textboxes are inside a tabpanel (ajax), so do I have to locate the tabpage and then find all it's controls (for each tabpage)?

so I created a new control. When the user changes the font, I don't want the user to change the font past font size 14. If the user changes the font past 14, the font should reset to 14.Here is what I have so far.
Private Sub LoginControl_FontChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.FontChanged
Dim myFont As Font
[code].....
The problem here is that this code makes the font, Arial 12 static, and whenever I change the font size, the font always goes back to Arial 12.

I created a new User Control. I want to set a minimum Font for it. I put the code in the Font_Changed Event. Here it is.
Private Sub LoginControl_FontChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.FontChanged
Dim myFont As Font
[Code].....
It keeps telling me that myFont.Size is ReadOnly. How do I get around that?

When setting a point 10 font size in VB6:
[Code]....
The reported size is 10. Can someone explain the difference here? My hunch is that VB6 is using a .75 step because my system is configured at 96 DPI, and .NET is not using said step, or not reporting its usage, but I'm not sure.

Creating a usecontrol:
The control will have numberous properties available at design and run time.
I am having trouble creating and exposing FONT properties for the child objects.
Example: The control will have a label with a designtime and useradjustable Display font. I wish to
1) be able to set the Font attributes via the properties dialog at design time.
2) set those properties via GUI at runtime.
The problem...
Code:
Private propArtistHeaderFont() As Font
Public Property ArtistHeaderFont() As Font
Get
[Code].....
So clearly I can not pass the FONT properties back and forth via the SET/GET method.

I have set the property properly with no success.
I have tried to set the property in code, using the suggestions in the MSDN and it kept throwing errors.

I have created an instance of a Rich Text Box:
Dim RichText As New RichTextBox()
I was able to write to it using:
RichText.AppendText("Text")
I was able to save the document to a file:
RichText.SaveFile("C:TempRTDoc1.rtf")
What I cannot find is how to set the font, and font size. IntelliSense doesn't help. Everything is "read only", meaning retrieve a current value.

Did vs2008 or vb.net got some of the solution to solve properties setting of the components are same with each other?
Example: like I want to standard the datagridviews' property, each of the datagridviews' property is same with each other. but each time I create the new datagridview. I have to manually set the datagridview 1 by 1.

I've played around with this and have figured most of it on how to set the properties of most controls in the designer. I have 2 check boxes I need to set the values on but do not know how. 2 fields one for each in the db with a char(1) value, can be Y or N. If it a Y in the db how would I set it as checked on the form?
'cboPosition
Me.cboPosition.DataBindings.Add(New System.Windows.Forms.Binding("SelectedValue", Me.FmfieldmanmasterBindingSource1, "position_name", True))
Me.cboPosition.DataBindings.Add(New System.Windows.Forms.Binding("Text", Me.FmfieldmanmasterBindingSource1, "position_name", True))
