Setting Focus On Nested Custom Controls?

Jan 10, 2011

I have a nested custom control that I need to set focus on. I have it all internally wired up to automatically set the focus when the form loads, but when it comes up on screen, the designated accept button for the parent form is in focus instead. Even when is disassociate the accept button it still does not set correctly. How can I ensure my desired control gets focus.

Handling Focus With Custom Controls?

Nov 3, 2011

I have a custom control I'm creating. When I click on it, it draws a dotted border and puts some nubs on it for resizing. This all works perfectly. Now I want it so when I click off of it, it deselects. I already have a variable to set up if it's selected or not and subs to draw/clear it. I just have to be able to detect when something else is selected or it gets clicked off of.

What I've Tried

My first and best solution to this was to use the LostFocus event, but, by custom control apparently won't let it fire. After some research, as far as I know, custom controls don't have Focus events because they are custom and could be changed (basically, you have to implement the focus events yourself).

My Question

Does anybody have a solution to either implement the focus events or a way to handle off clicking for custom controls?

C# - Set Focus To A Deeply Nested Control In Windows Forms?

Jul 19, 2011

I have a main form that contains a vertical SplitContainer.Inside the SplitContainer's left panel, I have a TreeView control.Inside the SplitContainer's right panel, I have another SplitContainer (this one horizontal). This container is fixed, with headings above the split and a Panel control below it.I dynamically load my own user controls into the Panel control whenever the tree view changes.

Most of the user controls that are dynamically loaded have a DataGridView that should receive focus when the control is initialized. Sometimes this grid is on the UserControl surface directly; sometimes it's in a GroupBox; etc.What is the best way to programmatically set focus on the DataGridView control, given that it may placed within a variable number of control containers? I've tried the obvious - .Select, .Focus, .ActiveControl, etc. None of these seem to work - the TreeView item that I selected is still highlighted, and even though a record is selected in the DataGridView, it doesn't have focus.

Here's the code where I add the user control within the main form:

Private Sub LoadRightPanel(ByVal section As String, ByVal moduleName As String)
Heading.Text = String.Empty
SuspendLayout()
RightPanel.Controls.Clear()

[code]....

I am having problem setting focus on specific cell in my Datagridview1 . On Form1 when clicking on cell 3 in any row, I am callig a Dialog1. However, when done working with it, and closing the Dialog1, the focus returns to cell 3 in my Datagridview1 . I like to set the focus on the next cell(4) making it the current cell.

I have tryed :

DataGridView1.SelectionMode = DataGridViewSelectionMode.CellSelect
DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.Item(4, e.RowIndex)

DataGridView1.CurrentCell = DataGridView1.CurrentRow.Cells(4)

And few other things, I am always getting this exception: Operation is not valid because it results in a reentrant call to the SetCurrentCellAddressCore function.

Nested ASP.Net Controls Not Defined

Aug 18, 2010

I have a couple of controls that are set to runat="server", but are showing up as "not declared" in the vb code behind. They are not being setup in the designer.vb file at all, even if the design.vb is re-created.

The only thing that I can think might be causing this is that the controls are inside of a custom control. The code looks something like this (it has been modified because of NDA):

<abc:MyCustomControl>
<additionalItems>
<asp:CheckBox id="coolCheckboxOfPower" runat="server" Text="Triple Rainbow!">

[Code]....

So using the example above, if I try to use coolCheckboxOfPower in my vb page, it says it is not declared.

It has been suggested to me that asp controls cannot be nested. Is this true, and if so, how do I get around that?

Custom Paging In Child(Inner) Nested Repeaters?

Iam using nested repeaters with Dataset (not using Datatable) to retrieve information by passing parameters. So far I have bind the two repeaters clearly and everything is working fine.Here the list of messages created by each user datawise(parameter passed) will be displayed, and there could be more than 50 messages created by each user daily, So now I want to do custom paging for each user.But Iam unable to proceed further, as the next, previous, back, first links are placed inside the child repeaters footer template and i coudn't access these links even by findcontrol method.

Painting With .Net 4 And Nested User Controls On Win 7 Machine?

May 22, 2012

I have form, on which a component is placed, which is inherited from Forms.UserControl. This component, called Panel, handles the layouting as visible in the screenshot below.

The screenshot shows 10 Panels. Each Panel contains its own title bar and visible area, in which any UI can be displayed.When the application starts, the application contains only one single Panel. When the user decides to split this Panel into 2 Panels, those new Panels are displayed side-by-side in the area of the old Panel either horizontally or vertically. Inbetween these Panels a splitter is added, so that the user can resize the Panels. The user can do the splitting multiple times, so that you reach a layout as given in the screenshot above with 10 Panels.

Minimizing and the maximizing the application causes a painting issue as displayed in the screenshot below. The red rectangle indicates the area, where the layout is not displayed properly.

Here some additional information:

1. Windows 7 The issue occurs only on Windows 7 machines. On Windows XP the application is running properly.

2. .Net Framework The application was developed for the .Net Framework 1.1. I upgraded it to 4.0. All warnings were fixed, which occured after the upgrade to 4.0.

3. Layouting Technically The Panel works internally with mutiple Forms.Panel, 1 Forms.Splitter etc. objects. If the Panel is not splitted, it displays the title bar and a visible area below, both instances of Panel. If splitted, the Panel replaces the title bar and visible area with 2 instances of Panel again but divided by a Splitter.

Style Nested Panel Controls In Program?

I have a panel sitting in a div, and I want to use that panel as a container to add more panels! Why would I want to add a panel to a panel? Because the panel that I'm adding to the existing panel, is also made to contain objects, but only and image and label.

The existing master container panel is created during design time, and goes by the lovely name of "toolboxpanel". During run time, I have a for/next loop that dynamically creates an image, a label, adds them both to a panel, then adds that panel to the toolboxpanel,[code]...

Setting A 'default' Value To Controls (textbox) (loop Controls)?

I have aspx form with several textboxes.They are populated with values from a table via retrieval of a dataview.If the row count for the dataview is 0, then I'd like to reset the values in all textboxes. How can I loop through all the textboxes and set a default value?I've tried the following, but no sucess.

For Each ctrl As Control In Page.Form.Controls
If TypeOf ctrl Is WebControls.TextBox Then
CType(ctrl, WebControls.TextBox).Text = ""
End If
Next

My first For Loop was using Page.Controls but it returned only 1 count.The textboxes are inside a tabpanel (ajax), so do I have to locate the tabpage and then find all it's controls (for each tabpage)?

C# - Setting External Application Focus?

Dec 17, 2009

In VB.NET, you can set focus to an external application using

AppActivate("Windows Name")

or

AppActivate(processID As Integer)

Now this works fine if you do for example:

Dim intNotePad As Integer = Shell("C:WINNTNotepad.exe",
AppWinStyle.MinimizedNoFocus)
AppActivate(intNotePad)

But when I do:

For Each theprocess As Process In processlist
If InStr(theprocess.ProcessName, "DWG") Then
strProcessList += String.Format("Process: {0} ID: {1}", theprocess.ProcessName, theprocess.Id) + vbCrLf
AppActivate(theprocess.ID)

[code]....

then it doesn't find the window, even if it's open and even if it finds the window using the window title.But I need it by process ID.How can I do that?I need it to set focus on a 3rd party installer in a windows installer setup project.

Setting Focus In A DataGridView's Cell?

Mar 16, 2010

I am trying to set the focus in a datagridview's cell after the user enters some data and tries to tab out of the cell. I can't seem to get the focus in the cell they just edited. I can change the background color, but the focus goes to the next field in the grid. I am trying to do this in the _CellValidating event. Here is my code :

Private Sub dgvFish_CellValidating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellValidatingEventArgs) Handles dgvFish.CellValidating

[Code]....

The function CheckSampleNumber() takes the value of the cell just entered, and checks to see if it has been entered either in the current grid, OR in the database.

Tried frmMain.Select() and frmMain.ToolStripButton0.Select() at end of small form load but it doesn't work. The user has to click the help button twice, once to select it and once to open it. A minor problem but annoying.
