I need to create a telephone directory with search option(textbox). I use sql db as backend and vb.net for frontend. In this the user must search for a particular name using the textbox and the results have to be displayed in the gridview. how to do this?

View 1 RepliesI have a problem in putting the telephone number using the datagridview. I have build 2 forms which is form1 and form2. In the form1 there are 2 textbox and a 'To' button whereas in the form2, there is a datagridview which display the telephones numbers and a button. When run the application, the user need to get the telephone numbers from the database so that is why when clicked on the 'To' button, it will go to the form2 which is the datagridview. After selecting the telephone numbers and click on the button at the form2, the telephone numbers will be display at the form1 first textbox. But the problem is that, I grab the telephone number which has been display in the form1 first textbox to the second textbox in the form1. I could not get the telephone numbers.

I'm trying to create a search textbox that will bring up titles as I type them. For instance, when I start typing D..all titles that begin with "D" will appear in drop down menu. I found a code that I believe does this but I'm getting error messages. The error message I am getting is: "cmbMovies not declared" and "CONN_STRING not declared". I created a DataSource named cmbMovies and it did not solve the problem. Am I looking at this correctly? Here is the

one of the BIG hurdles in my simple project, making a search engine. I don't know how at all. The search engine need only to search in one Directory with its sub directories and txt files for criteria, and display the results, with option open from the results. any basic code or example maybe?

I need to figure out how to index a directory, i know how to get the files in that one folder, but i want to get the sub folders as well then index those. untill there is no more sub folders left and all all the files into a big array. i can do all of that except figure out sub folders. i can get them i just cant figure out how to put it in an array.

I would like to have an option to pin the window that contains search results. Currently our application has a search for for instance sales order. Then, when the end user opens a sales order, the search screen is closed, and the sales order is opened for view or edit. However, the users is complaining (with good reason) that they want an option to keep the search window open. Thus, something like a push pin/thumbnail that I can test the state before I open the sale order. If it is pinned, then leave the screen open. If not, close the search screen. I've seen a couple of 3rd party controls like this, but we like to stick to built in/native components only.

As noted in my comment to Jon Skeet, this construct, along with the rest of the Object's components, executes 100,000 times in a profiling loop in ~570ms (rough average of 3-5 runs).
Exchanging the above construct out with a smaller Array.IndexOf construct loops 100,000 times in ~630ms (again, 3-5 runs, rough average, the whole Object). The new construct looks like this:

I have been searching for a while now, but I still can't seem to figure this out. I wrote a rather large program, and to make things more efficient I started to create structs to store more info in a variable.All was well replacing my old code with new code, till I reached a certain point and found that blindly using a loop of integers to access the indexes of the array wouldn't work anymore... I need to access a specific struct by the information contained in a single variable within the struct (like a hashtable key), but can't seem to figure out how.
Is it possible for me to go through my array indexes in a fashion like this?:

But I want just the first result, if I have an example text:
then it searches twice "is", I just want the first "is".
I am trying to do a search on a index/row number taken from a dataview i.e. I enter 379437 in the input box which I know has a index/row number of 6. Now when I replace the Rows(index) with a Rows(6) I get the results that I want. When I run the code below the index comes out as 75 which displays the first row from the dataset which is a completely different set of results.
