Get Parent Directory Of Application Directory?
Dec 15, 2009I need to get the location/name of the directory that contains my application. I know I can get location of my app using My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath but I don't know how to get the directory above this. I can of course mess around with String.Split etc.. but I don't think that is necessary.

Mar 22, 2012You wouldn't think so, but it does when the listbox is bound to a datasource (as far as I can see).
I've reduced the behaviour to the code below. The "if" line toggles between loading a list via data binding and loading a list "manually" (both use the same data table). In each case I set the selected index afterwards, and then change the parent form. With manual loading, the selected index is retained, with binding it is lost. I cannot see how this makes any sense - I don't see why changing the host form should alter any property of the list. Is this a bug?

Mar 4, 2010I need to figure out how to index a directory, i know how to get the files in that one folder, but i want to get the sub folders as well then index those. untill there is no more sub folders left and all all the files into a big array. i can do all of that except figure out sub folders. i can get them i just cant figure out how to put it in an array.

Is it possible to locate f within its parent directory (d) as shown in the picture below? I know that you can open its parent directory like the following.
Process.Start("explorer.exe", Path.GetDirectoryName(f))
And that's not exactly what I want. In this case, the Music folder won't be selected. I could search this place for a clue. But there was no hit. It seems that the search function doesn't always work here.
Unable To Retrieve Parent In Active Directory
Jul 26, 2010I successfully retrieve a user (call it userA) from Active Directory that exists in Domain A in the users subdirectory. I then try to remove the user from AD by doing

This fails because when I look at the parent node in a Watch Window in Visual Studio, all of its members say COMInterop.Exception.

Oct 13, 2009We have a directory of thousands of pdf files that need printing. How can I have a vb app print them one after another until they are all printed. All it needs to do is the equivalent of right click on the pdf and click print. I don't need to open or read the file and I don't need to monitor the printing process. Just go through one by one and say print to each file. I can loop through files but what would the commands be to tell it to print them?

All is working, but now I would like to close child page, if user leaves child popup page and goes back to parent page and clicks on something else like page index of Gridview. I CANNOT close popup child page if user goes to another app, or some other location, I only want to close if something on parent page is changed.
I have the PageIndexChange Event set up for other purposes, I would just like to add some functionality, perhaps a script manager to close the child popup page if the Gridview index is changed, java or another way which ever works best.I think I might also need to check if the child page is even open.

Suppose I am running the Sub Test1() and Test2() and would like to print out the value of the Shadows method of the instance of the object I am passing in to TestCall() (see below - it is clearer) using the following restrictions:
Can't change the contents of Class A, B, and C
Can't change Sub Test1() and Sub Test2()
TestCall() can't have an if, select case etc. statement that tries to figure out the type

Jun 24, 2009I have a main form, and some sub forms, and each sub form can have some sub forms. When I have multiple sub forms open, and I try to get data from the parent form, it returns the data from the wrong parent form.For example I have two instances of Mainform.subform running. If I do something like this in a child form of one instance of the subform. It returns data from the other subform.

Aug 25, 2011I have a datagridview, with 3 columns, each containing dropdown filters (in the column header). Of the 3 columns, 2 are working perfectly fine, but whenever I try to filter the 3rd column, it gives me this error: (Also all of the column's have the ColumnType property set to: DataGridViewAutoFilterTextBoxColumn) "Index was out of range. Mar 5, 2009I've got the web browser with tabs in all working fine, but there's one bug, i can add tabs, delete em, etc.. but when i delete a tab then go to create a new tab, it gives me the error: InvalidArgument=Value of '6' is not valid for 'index'. Comparing Array Index To Combo Box Index?
Nov 14, 2010I am coding a program for a movie trivia game that randomly shows a movie quote and the the user selects a movie name from a combo box that matches. I used a array for the movie quotes and a comboBox for the movie names. I have coded a portion of the program but I am stuck on how to compare the array quote being shown to what movie the user selects from the comboBox. I have tried numerous different things but none seem to work right. The way I have it coded now it shows that every movie I pick that it is right even if it is wrong. I am going to show part of the code here and also attach the entire solution for anyone that needs it .

DataGridView Index - Index Was Out Of Range?
Apr 14, 2009I am working in VB 2008 and I have set up a datagridview to display rows of data which can then be selected. When I select the first row I get the error: Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. When I select any other row the program executes as it should. From what I have learned so far is that the DataGridView has an index of -1 and that it counts the header row as part of the index which is the -1.When I select the first row through either DataGridView1_RowHeaderMouseClick or DataGridView1_CellContentClick the index is 0 for the first record. If the index is 0 I think it would fire off, but I have no idea what is happening behind the scenes. I can check the index, so when it is 0 and the code attempts to access the row, that is when I get the message.On an index number of 1 and up the code executes fine.So, is there a way to re-index the DataGridView, or is there a work around/fix for this issue?
