Sep 14, 2009Do anybody know how to input value to array? I know how to input the value by editing the code but I want to let users to enter value by themselves (such as using a input box). Plz help!

File Input (String) To Array
Sep 30, 2008I am trying to write a program that reads values from a datafile and makes the data available in an array for further use in the program. The data consist of a description and then a value (COM_PORT=COM1, for example). My idea is to put the data in an array so that I can just search the array for COM_PORT and I will get COM1 back. Is that a good approach of handling it this way? What methods would I use to put the data (I use FileSystem.ReadAllText, the data is in a string) into an array? Would the split method work?

Feb 12, 2011I am trying to make a program using Visual Basic that will allow the user to add links to web pages (such as www.google.ca) to a list in the program and make it so that they do not dissapear once the program is closed.
So to get into more detail, I have a text box, a listview, and a button. When the user types a link into the text box it needs to be put into an array (called "addlink") and then when the user presses the button, the link is typed into the listview as an object.
Then if the user clicks on that object in the listview, it will open up the browser using the WebBrowser command. How do I set the text in the textbox to an array once the button is clicked?

I got the part where the program can graph data from text file and put it into an array called "varia3". The part I could not get is allowing user to enter data into the textbox. When I run the program, the sec I try to enter a letter or number into the textbox the program ended.

The text file contains columns and then numerous rows for each columns each number is separated with a tab. The text file looks something like this.

I am unable to determine how to index the Char array to accept input letter by letter. if i assign the array a specified length, i am not allowed to set the strID.toCharArray to it. If i choose no index am told the value is less then the array size. I have tried many different ways, including using a counter to increment the array, but i am unable to index the array.

Sep 19, 2009I've to make a program that reads an arithmetical sentence from a textbox, e.g 12.3*34+4*5-3 and then on another textbox identify and display what is the content of the first textbox, for example taking the last ex:
If I have this input:
12.3*34+4*5-3
The output should look like this:

<operator> *
<number> 34
<operator> +

This program should only read this operators like (+,-,*,/).I'm have in mind 2 ways of doing it, one with regex and the other taking the first sentence, put it on an array, then trim it, and somehow get the values of the array and identify if it is a number or a decimal number and if it's an operator and then display it.
The difficult part or the part that i can't conceptualize is how to implement it with regex (it should be easier with a regex format than storing it on a array).I write a bit of code, I used an array to store and then to print the numbers and I used the split function to separate the math operator, but I dunno how to print the operators and the tags.

VS 2010 Difficulty Storing Textbox Input Into Jagged Array?
Jun 14, 2012Recently I started a project with the goal being to have text that was inputted into a textbox stored within a three dimensional jagged array. The idea is that every time a button is pressed, whatever text that is inputted into the textbox is split into separate elements, where each word occupies its own element in the array. So for example, if a poem were entered into the textbox and the button clicked, each word of the poem would be assigned to a discrete element in the vertical dimension, and each line of the poem assigned an element in the horizontal dimension. After the text is stored into the 3D jagged array, the text should be cleared from the textbox and a counter should then ensure that on the next button press, the new text inputted into the textbox is stored in a discrete element of the array. Below is the code I have written so far, but I know that I am far from having anything might accomplish what I have just described.

Im trying to make it so I can input a number for a percentage, multiply that with my current array prices, and display the total in the listbox. Read Individual Lines Of A CSV File Into A String Array, To Then Be Selectively Displayed Via Combobox? Input?
Apr 2, 2010I've got myself a CSV file with the following contents:
1,The Compact,1.8GHz,1024MB,160GB,440
2,The Medium,2.4GHz,1024MB,180GB,500
3,The Workhorse,2.4GHz,2048MB,220GB,650
It's a list of computer systems, basically, that the user can purchase.I need to read this file, line-by-line, into an array. Let's call this array csvline().The first line of the text file would stored in csvline(0). Line two would be stored in csvline(1). And so on. (I've started with zero because that's where VB starts its arrays). A drop-down list would then enable the user to select 1, 2 or 3 (or however many lines/systems are stored in the file). Upon selecting a number - say, 1 - csvline(0) would be displayed inside a textbox (textbox1, let's say). If 2 was selected, csvline(1) would be displayed, and so on.
It's not the formatting I need help with, though; that's the easy part. I just need someone to help teach me how to read a CSV file line-by-line, putting each line into a string array - csvlines(count) - then increment count by one so that the next line is read into another slot.So far, I've been able to paste the numbers of each system into an combobox:

But this only selects individual values. I need to figure out how selecting one of these numbers in the combobox can trigger textbox1 to be appended with just that line (I can handle the formatting, using the string.format stuff). If I try to do this using csvalue = csvtranslator.ReadLine , I get the following error message:
"Error 1 Value of type 'String' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of String'."
If I then put it as an array, ie: csvalue() = csvtranslator.ReadLine , I then get a different error message:"Error 1 Number of indices is less than the number of dimensions of the indexed array."

Feb 16, 2009I'm trying to code an 'increase' button to prompt a user to input a rate by which to increase select prices in an array.It should request the increased rate, then request a number from one to five, representing which price in the array to increase.Then, if 'increase' button is selected again and another number from one to five is chosen, then that element should be increased.It's working, but all the numbers in the array are changed. And, when I hit the increase button again, the array is repopulated below the first price increases instead of only replacing the designated price.
