Prompting User Input In VB 2010 Two Dimensional Array?
Jun 9, 2011
How do I prompt the user to input elements in a two dimensional array? And how do I then save the output?I've figured out how write and print a program where the program provides the elements (see short version below), but I can't work out how to get the user to input the elements instead.
I am trying to input a text file of figures into a 2-dimensional array. I want to do this so I will then perform percent changes on the respective columns. The text file contains columns and then numerous rows for each columns each number is separated with a tab. The text file looks something like this.
2.2 5.5 3.7 6.3 9.2 9.1
So I need to be able to input the text file, turn it into an array and then find the total percent change. From 2.2-3.7-9.2
I need help in defining an Multi-dimensional array which will update based on the value passed by the user [code] I nesd to pass the value to an array of where I want to add Project, for example If i want to add (Project) under Customer2 table the array gets updated and adds an entry in Customer 2 table which will look like [code]
I have an application that creates files at certain directories, deploys them and then removes them when neccessary. Under Windows Vista and 7, access for my program to carry out such commands are denied because UAC is blocking it.Now i am NOT using Visual Studio, i am using SharpDevelop and my project is a Windows Form. How can i prompt the user with the UAC dialogue so my application can acquire UAC elevation and carry out its tasks?I would also like to point out that everything works perfectly when UAC is either turned off or the user runs my program with Administrator Rights.
I need some help with the input validation of my application. Attached is the code that I have written as well as a screenshot of the front end. I specifically need input validation to verify that the user selected input for cbLengthOfStay is a number between 1-10 as well as input validation to verify the user input for txtMedication, txtSurgicalCharges, txtLabFees and txtRehabilitation is a positive numerical number. Please feel free to critique my attached code. [Code]
In my football sim I am trying to save all the info from a game. There are two defined dimensions to this array. The first is the number of weeks(17 always) and then the number of games per week (Number of teams /2). The plays themselves are unknown in quantity so I decided to use List of to store them. With this type of multi-dimensional array that is also a List of I am having trouble with the Get and Set properties. I have a member variable declared as:
I'm developing an application for our IT Helpdesk to do some common tasks like installs, drive mapping, etc...
However this application needs to be run as administrator. Is there a way to get the application to bring up the RunAs prompt as soon as it runs, so the user doesn't have to do a Shift + Right click > Runas?
I think I need a two dimensional byte array I currently have something like this:
Dim MbyteData(196608) As Byte ' Open the file that is to be loaded into a byte array Dim oFile As System.IO.FileInfo oFile = New System.IO.FileInfo(sFilePath)
[code]....
I now need to load several files at once (say four) so I need four arrays of 196608 bytes and I want to reference them by a number - 0 to 3, assuming the array is zero based. If I use Dim MbyteData(196608, 3) as byte or Dim MbyteData(3, 196608) as byte the syntax seems to be correct but I hit an error ("Number of indices is less than the number of dimensions of the indexed array") when I try to add the extra dimension to the stream read with something like oFileStream.Read(MbyteData(index), 0, MiByteCount).
I have been puzzling over this for about 2 days now but to no avail.All i am trying to do is retrieve all the "<a href = "myLink.php">MyLink</a>"
I can do it via the webbrowser with getElementsByTagName but i just cant for the life of me work out how i split the returned html into either an indexed array or just use inStr or Split function to split this into seperate value, But if i have a csv file with 20 links i dont want to have to load every page into a webbrowser control just to use getElementsByTagName.
Now it all works fine and retrieves the source code from the page. I have only extracted part of the code which is relevant to the retrieving html to try to shorten this post.
I have a string containing many lines. Each line has many values separated by commas. Basically it's in CSV format. The number of lines is variable but the number of columns is always 7.
I can get each line into a one dimensional array using Split(Var, Chr(10)).
I'd like to make it a two dimensional array where the second dimension contains each comma separated value.
I've got
Dim VarArray1() As String = Split(VarText, Chr(10)) Dim VaryArray2(0 To VarArray1.Length - 1, 0 To 6) As String
Is there a quick way to get the contents of VarArray1 into VarArray2. I know I can do the following.
For Counter = 0 to VarArray1.Length - 1 Dim line as string = VarArray1(Counter) Dim Values() as string = Split(line, ",") For Counter2 = 0 to 6 VarArray2(Counter,Counter2) = Values(Counter2) Next Counter2 Next Counter
But is there a quicker way to do it that doesn't require passing through each element of VarArray1 and then passing through each element of Values.
The eventual goal in all of this will be to find the highest value in the 3rd column (the arrays are strings at this point because not all columns are numeric). To do that once I get the values into VarArray2 I suspect I have to pass through each element VarArray2, i.e. VarArray2(Counter,2). Unless I can copy the whole third column into a SortedList?
In my program, I need to have the user input a list of numbers separated by commas. How would I go about storing those numbers? Would I put them into an array? If so, how?
I am trying to make a program using Visual Basic that will allow the user to add links to web pages (such as www.google.ca) to a list in the program and make it so that they do not dissapear once the program is closed.
So to get into more detail, I have a text box, a listview, and a button. When the user types a link into the text box it needs to be put into an array (called "addlink") and then when the user presses the button, the link is typed into the listview as an object.
Then if the user clicks on that object in the listview, it will open up the browser using the WebBrowser command. How do I set the text in the textbox to an array once the button is clicked?

how to pass user entered data (from a textbox) to an array? All the examples I have found show how to populate an array with predefined values. Heres what I've got, its messing and not close to what I want.
Private Sub AddButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles AddButton.Click Dim AddNumInteger As Integer
[Code].....
When the users clicks the add button the value they entered in the NumAdd textbox is sent to an element?
I have 10 constant arrays of data that can be used throughout the program.[code]I also have an array that needs to be populated randomly depending on user input.array_user(8)If the user selects 3 for instance...I need the data in array_user to be populated by the data in array03.I know I can do that with if/then statements...but I'm sure there is a much simpler way to do it.
I'm trying to make a program where user can input data from a textbox into an array and when the user hit the enter key, it compare it to a data grab from a text file. Here is my code so far:
Private Sub TextBox_KeyDown(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox.TextChanged Dim input As String
[Code]....
I got the part where the program can graph data from text file and put it into an array called "varia3". The part I could not get is allowing user to enter data into the textbox. When I run the program, the sec I try to enter a letter or number into the textbox the program ended.
how to do array of textboxes when a user input a number of textbox to be loaded and when the button clicked, the array of textbox that the user enters will appear?
I am having a problem understanding the following error message:
Value of type 1-dimensional array of string cannont be converted to 2-dimensional array of string because the array types have different numbers of dimensions This line seems to be causing the error:
New String((13) - 1) {}
I did a Google search on this but didnt come up with anything useful. I didnt even change the code.I just found this example online and copied/pasted it into a project that Im working on.
All code is listed below!
Calendar.aspx.vb Imports System Imports System.Data
Ok, as you can see I am totaly new with Visual Basic. I have learned all those loops, if&else statements, byval, byref and etc. But now, I want to create this kind of application. I have 3 textboxes. One will contain URL, second username, and last password. There is a listbox also and a button. I want when user add a values inside textboxes , that values go to listbox as one variable and then save those settings for user so when he start up application again there are saved variables inside listbox. I just dont know how to do that.
So I'm developing a Windows Forms Application in Visual Basic 2010. The user searches for data and fetches results, updates fields and some other CRUD operations. I want to provide a user input validation. Usual stuff i.e. some fields need to be always numbers>0, others need to be non-empty in order to avoid Null access on some objects and others just need to be some fixed strings.
I've worked out how to display charts in VB 2010 Express, but now I'm needing the user to input data into a spreadsheet/table that will be used within the program. I know that table is no longer available and neither is the OWC11 set. Is my remaining option then to use DataGridView? I know it is SQL based and I don't have much experience there yet, but I didn't want to commit to it if there is another method that would work just as well. The values that are put in by the user does not need to be preserved.
I have DataTable, and is bound to DataGridView. So, when the user inputs some values in 4 columns, it would calculate the sum and put it in the last 2nd last column.
Here's the code that I'm experimenting:
vb.net Private Sub DataGridView1_RowLeave(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs) Handles DataGridView1.RowLeave Dim i As Integer Dim intTotal As Integer = 0 For i = 5 To DataGridView1.Columns.Count - 3
[Code]...
So, basically it should sum up certain columns when the user enters numbers into it and then display it in the last column.
Recently I started a project with the goal being to have text that was inputted into a textbox stored within a three dimensional jagged array. The idea is that every time a button is pressed, whatever text that is inputted into the textbox is split into separate elements, where each word occupies its own element in the array. So for example, if a poem were entered into the textbox and the button clicked, each word of the poem would be assigned to a discrete element in the vertical dimension, and each line of the poem assigned an element in the horizontal dimension. After the text is stored into the 3D jagged array, the text should be cleared from the textbox and a counter should then ensure that on the next button press, the new text inputted into the textbox is stored in a discrete element of the array. Below is the code I have written so far, but I know that I am far from having anything might accomplish what I have just described.
