I've been following a tutorial on [url]...for creating a service using VB Express 2008. I got the first part working and managed to get the sample to install using InstallUtil, but the second part has you use a form with buttons to install and uninstall the service.
I'm wondering if there are instructions for installing the service from a command line so I could just change to a specific subdirectory and type "myservice /i" to install it or /u to uninstall it.
I cannot run Windows Services , I am getting error message "Cannot start Service from the command line or a debugger. A Windows Services must first be installed (using Installutil.exe) and then started with the ServerExplorer, Windows Services administrative tool or the NET START Command."
I have run the InstalluTil.exe and open the Visual Studio 2005 command prompt and run below command but still not working. InstallUtil " D:\Khwathie\MyNewService\MyServ\MyServ\bin\Debug\MyService.exe".
I have a simple question that I can not figure out.I have a service (service.exe) that is running as SYSTEM.I want to be able to send this service command line arguments. How would I do this? I am not able to just service.exe /arg because the service is running as SYSTEM and I am logged in as an admin. Is there way?
I have beginner skills using VB (am using the Express edition to learn). I would like to know how to set up a conditional statement in a Windows Form (WF) app that would check if a specific command line has been passed by another separate app that launchesthe Windows Form app using command lines, and if not passed, then the Windows Form app would shut down (exit, close). So far, I can use:
For Each s As String In My.Application.CommandLineArgs If s <> "xyz" Then Me.Close()
I've created a windows service and started a deployment project for it. I have the project installer class in the service project and I've added the "Standard output etc.." from the service project as custom actions for the Deployment Project. When I attempt to install it, I get the error "Specified service already exists", which shouldn't happen (even though the service does exist) because the installer should be removing the old service and installing the new one.
I've checked that the versions are different, and that the Product Code is also different, also RemovePreviousVersions is set to true. Can anyone tell me why it isn't uninstalling my old service when I update then install again? .S: MODS: DO NOT MARK MY POST AS ANSWERED, IT IS RUDE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA IF YOU'VE ANSWERED MY QUESTION!Sorry, it gets ignored in my signature.Mods
First let me say that I am not sure whether or not this should go in this section or the API section, and if it needs to be moved I apologize. My issue is fairly straight forward, but for some reason I cannot get it to work.
I am trying to send a command to a command line and then submit the command. I have been trying without success to get this to work in v2008 Express and v2010 Express, Here is the code I am trying to us:
Private Declare Function FindWindow Lib "user32" Alias "FindWindowA" ( _ ByVal lpClassName As String, _ ByVal lpWindowName As String _
I am using a CheckedListBox that is populated with Filenames (full path, i.e. C:TestTest.jpg)When I have the files that I want in the CheckedListBox I wish to click a Start Button which will process the list one at a time using an exe program that runs on the Command Line. There are arguments that need to pass to the command line as well as the file location in order for the program to process.I currently have it working but the issue is the loop finishes quickly and it is left up to the CMD.exe to finish the process. What I would like is for the LOOP to wait until each file completes processing before passing the command for the next file in the CheckedListBox.There some reasons I wish for it to work this way.
1) I would like to have a button that can Pause/Restart the Loop.
2) I would like to have a button that can Stop the Loop so the whole process can end.
3) I would like to have the Loop remove each file one by one from the CheckedListBox after it has been processed.
4) I would like to display a Message once all the files have been processed.
5) And if it were possible I would like to report the status either by text or a progress bar showing where it is at in the process.
6) And the ability to add some error handling if possible.
Since the Loop finishes so quickly as it just passes the command to the command line using the & as a seperator it is the command line that is handling the rest of the process. Because of this there is not control over it in the GUI.The code I am using allows the Command Line text to display in the Form so it won't open up a seperate window to run CMD.exe. This is the desired affect as I would like everything to appear to run from within the Form itself.
I have developed a Windows service. During the installation, I get the following warning/error:Cannot start service from the command line or debugger. A Windows Service must first be installed (using installutil.exe) and then started with the Server Explorer, Windows Service Administrative tools or the NET start command.
I am not trying to start it. I am only installing it (right-click from setup project). The StartType is set to Manual, and the Service Process Installer account is set to User. I do not get prompted for the service login credentials.I am using Visual Studio 2005, VB.Net running on Windows Server 2003 SP2.
I have a service I have written in VB.NET In the past I have always done the installs (internal app), so I have the install set to User, and when I do:
InstallUtil "C:MyService.exe"
It prompts me for the Account and Password, and I am using the local administrator (.administrator)I am setting up an installation script now that the user's can just run to install, and I don't want to give them the administrator password. Is there a silent way to include the user/password in the command line?
I've developed a simple Windows Service basically from following tutorials. However, when I go to add it the list of Services using the "Install Util", I get the following results and have no idea what it means.[code]
I created a VB.NET Service application and I have decided to install it on my computer using installutils.exe. After building the application, I open the SDK framework command line and ran the following command:
installutil KleinDevortService.exe KleinDevortService.exe being the built assembly for the service application. After running this command, I get the following: *********************************************************************************************************************************Microsoft (R) .NET Framework Installation utility Version
I was reading how to install a windows service by using InstallUtil but is there a way to install it within the form and not use the visual studio console?
I have a service installed. I would like to install this service (but with different features) twice on the same server but cant as the second service recognises it as the first. How could i avoid this?
i was wondering where visual studio install package actually installs a service. I have a vbscript that is suppose to start my service with the code below but it can't seem to find the service or can't start it.
Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") Set colService = objWMIService.ExecQuery("Select * from win32_Service where

My other question is, is there a way to throw two VBscripts into a vb service install package and have the scripts installed onto a local folder and then set two GPO's (User Logon and User Logoff) to run the two scripts?
I will be googling this but in case I don't find it easily, here is my question - how do you install a windows service that you've developed on your own PC to a server? Is there an option to produce the package (I thought it was an msi file) which you can run on the server?
I have written a VB.NET windows service application. I installed it in my system using the Installutil.exe. But this is not available in the client's system because the .NET is not installed in that system. Is there any way to install the .NET windows service application without the Installutil ?
I've been busy with work and other bits and bobs and not really had much time for programming... but anyway, I have just written a fairly simple windows service in VB.NET and although I can install it on my PCs/servers using the command line InstallUtil.exe component, this isnt ideal for other people that may need to install it without my assistance.
So basically I just need to know how to get a normal Setup and Deployment VS project to install this service itself... I thought it would be as simple as selecting the service assembly to include in the deployment project and building it, but unfortunately that seems to do naff all. Do I need to use a 'Custom Action' in the setup project (and if so, how/what do I do?)
I need to install a windows service via an .msi for many tablets which is nooooo problem. The problem is, the tablets currently have the service running which was installed by installutil. So when my installer runs, regardless of Remove Previous Version is true, it stops stating the service already exists and to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs. So I wrote a console app which preceeds the primary output as follows:
Sub Main() Try Dim filename As String = "C:Program FilesRSCProjectServiceSetupRSCProjectService.exe" 'Dim filename As String = "C:RSCProjectServiceRSCProjectServiceinDebugRSCProjectService.exe" If System.IO.File.Exists(filename) Then
I am struggling to pass a parameter to a VB.NET application via a Windows scheduled task. It works perfectly in Visual Studio (passing a command line arguement via project properties). If I am calling a VB6 application, then I will supply the following parameters and it works:
Run: c:progra~1TestTest.exe TestParameter Start In: c:progra~1Test However, if I supply the same parameters in VB.NET, the program throws an exception when it tries to create an instance of a class in the Form.Load: System.NullReferenceException cannot create instance of object.
I have also tried the following:Run: c:program filesTestTest.exe TestParameter Start In: "c:program filesTest" This time the status of the scheduled task changes to "cannot start".What is the correct way to specify command line parameters in a scheduled task for a VB.NET program?UPDATE I found the solution on this web page:[URL}.. I am still confused as to why the program would not create an instance of an object when I used the 8 bit paths (i.e. progra~1)
I have a service projecwith a deployment project in a solution. The installation is successful, service runs ok. However each time after installation I will have to use ervices.msc to start up the software or restart the machine, any idea how I can start the services as soon a
I'm working on creating a windows service that will send emails to a customer when they are within a month of having their submission expire. I'm using vb.net in Visual Studios 2008
Because it's a windows service it's very difficult to debug. Trying to narrow down my error I created a "sendDebugEmail" method that sends me an email if it gets to a certain line. The emails never make it past "dr = cmd.ExecuteReader()"
I'm wondering what I am doing wrong. My SQL statement should work fine. I've tested it in my SQL server database.
I've created a dummy_database that I just made in sql server as well. I added an INSERT sql statement for the dummy table i have in there just to see if i could actually access a database. All the table takes in is the line number and time it was sent. When I run my windows service that database updates just fine.[code]...
Im trying to create a windows service with vb.net but when I run: InstallUtil.exe myservice.exe

System. Security. I want to run the following command line program from VB.NET: rotor95.exe -d -k "password" -i "C:FileLocation" -o "C:FileLocation" The reason for this is that I don't want my users to have to drop out to a command line prompt in order to run a tiny program for 3 seconds. Typing in a 50 - 75 character file path twice isn't any fun either.
I tried using tooltask as discussed in the MSDN2 help but it appears to work with switches (/d etc.) but not parameters (-k "password"). I couldn't get the thing to work. See the following for the tooltask example:[URL]..light now I'm just using Shell("rotor95.exe -d -k "password" -i "C:FileLocation" -o "C:FileLocation") which works just fine but I'd like to use the .NET 2.0 super-whammy version of handling this problem if there is a better way to do it.
how to use basic FTP functions straight from the command line tool. and I started using Visual Studio to create "macros" for the command line tool (i.e. writing down specific functions to perform, write them to a txt file and then run Shell() to execute.)But what I want to know is if I can open a command prompt window and then interact with it. Say for example I'm writing an FTP class/object, I'd want to be able to keep a window up for my program to send commands to (And wishfully read data back from it.)Because it seems to me that whenever I use the Shell() command it just opens a prompt window and then closes it after my line of code has been executed. Is there way to interact with a command line window from Visual Studio? And maybe even scrape data from the terminal like with terminal emulator scripts?
I'm trying to make a LAN IM client using the net send command and I was wondering if there is any way to capture the text of the messages received through net send and display them in a label.
I have a console application which reads .txt files. I want to be able to drag a txt file over my app and it would automatically open my app and show the text files contents. I think I have to use command line arguments like this:
Sub Main(ByVal cmdArgs() As String) End Sub Sub ReadFile(FilePath as String) End Sub
But how can I pass the text files path to my ReadFile sub?
