Interaction With Database (Reading / Writing Tables And Fields)
May 2, 2012
Using Visual Basic 2008 express, I would like to access a database with 2 tables, one table (useraccounts) which has Users and Password and ID, and the other table which has information (linktable). Basically I would like to do a login form which reads from the table useraccounts and be able to create new users which will write into the database.
Another is that I have a form with a number of links which I would like to store in the table 'linktable' and it basically just gets the links from the table and straight to the form where it is used. I have tried using access or the .mdf files that visual basic has but I have been unable to find an answer for either.
I wouldn't mind using either access or the .mdf file for the database, I would just like it to work. Overall I am trying to get:
Login form which reads from database table 'useraccounts' and has a new user feature
Just a form that can read / write to the database once the save button is clicked.
I'm looking for a way to combine a field from multiple tables into a single field in a new table. Because the data populating the tables is coming from an outside source, I would prefer not to change the data in the original files. I have a separate table for each year because this is the way the data is provided. The field layout is not consistent from year to year, but each year there is a field that we'll call "score." I'd like to pull the field "score" from each year's table and have it populate a "score" column in a new table along with the year of the data so that all the years' scores are in the same place. Is there a way to do this using Visual Basic + Access?
I am writing a UserControls that display different database tables in textboxes. At present, I change which table the UC looks at by means of a Property that is in byte format and the Set part of the Property calls a subroutine to fix various functions.
Public Property csrCategory() As Byte Get Return category End Get
[code].....
When, say Line 2, is selected the value 2 is passed to the value in the UC.
I have a table in a database with 3 columns: OfferName, ExperienceAward, and GoldAward
I populate a combobox with the various offer names with the code below:
Dim con As OleDbConnection = New OleDbConnection( _ "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:UsersDouglasDocumentsVisual Studio 2008ProjectsGameBoxRPGGameBoxRPGContacts.accdb;Persist Security Info=False") Dim cmd As OleDbCommand = New _
Im trying to get my program to fill out textboxes with information it reads from a database, and then save the changes to the database. Does anybody know any good tutorials of this which i could look into?
I'm currently doing a project, I have 5 text boxes, and the information I put inside them get's added to a record in my database..In this record, an auto-number is allocated, and I need to display what the auto-number allocated is..
So I'm trying out a concept tool of mine where I need to be able to read and write data from a database real easy. I've set up the form as I like and spread around different text boxes and dropdownboxes to read the data from the database. And I've got it all to work and all, but there's a small bug I don't fully understand why's there. Some textboxes don't update the text from the database.
But it seems as it only occurs if the data in the database is nothing. So the value from the last row is still hanging in the textbox and thus, clicking "Update" actually updates the value from the field from the last row, into the new row. Messing everything up.
I have a data grid view on a form which is currently filled with the following query:
SELECT TopicCode, TopicName, NoOfCourses, Lev FROM tblTopics WHERE TopicCode = @TopicCode1(Where I obviously pass a TopicCode parameter) However, I have added two custom columns to the data grid view, and the values that i want be in here are in a different table than the query i'm using to fill the data grid view.is it possible to "nest" queries? which will allow me to select fields from two different tables?
Example:SELECT TopicCode, TopicName, NoOfCourses, Duration, Lev FROM tblTopics AND SELECT StartDate, EndDate FROM tblSubscriptions WHERE TopicCode = @TopicCode1
I have two forms receipt and payment. Both are having almost same fields.e.g. entryno, date , partyname, amount. Should I create two different tables for receipt and payment or keep data in single table with additional field 'TransactionType'
I am using VB within the Visual Studio 2010 platform.I have created a simple Database with Access.I have connected my database to my VB 2010 project using the Visual Basic BindingNavigator object.I now need to navigate my Database with code from within VB 2010.
1) More specifically I need VB routines that allow me to:
· GoTo first record · GoTo a specific record · MoveDown one record at the time and sense the EOF.
2)I need to add new records at the end of my database as data become available through a change in four text boxes.
3)I need any other VB 2010 statement or routine that might apply to Database navigation and communication from within VB 2010.
My Database consists of four columns: Date, Time, Bid (Double Integer), and Ask (Double Integer), and was created with Access. Is Access the best solution for creating a Database today?
I've been studying design patterns off-and-on now for a project I've recently been working on. I've been fortunate with this last one not to have to work with databases, but will soon have an opportunity.
Im not too sure if this is the correct place for this question, but I couldn't find anywhere else..Heres what i want to do. I have two tables in an Access DB. TableA and TableB. Each Table has only one column called Picture, and that column is filled with the names of pictures (picture1, picture2, picture3, etc)
Thing is, that The pictures in TableA have equivalent pictures in TableB. They are not named the same, but the pictures themselves are the same i.e.: TableA Picture1 = TableB Picture3, TableA Picture2 = TableB Picture5.
What i Would like to create is a form that has two datagrids, or Listboxes populated with the data from each table. One for TableA, One for TableB. When the User selects a picture from one of these controls, The other control must show which picture the selected one corresponds to (if i select TableA Picture1, TableB Picture3 becomes selected showing that they match)
I think that most of the work will be at the actual DB, somehow linking each and every field, maybe a one to one link between fields/cells in the DB, then in VB calling that one record that was clicked on, seeing what relation it has to the other table,
How can I use dynamic fields in LINQ in the PART OF THE where query? I mean that I want to write where x = *dynamic fields* I want to do the select query in all of the tables that are in the dataset, not on one datatable.
ok i have a comma delimited text file with two fileds. I am loading the first field which is strings into a checked list box based on a open file dialog prompt. now when the user clicks a button i want it to be able to increment the second field(which isintegers)of the corresponding string field index by one and save the file. i am very confused on how to even start this.
I have a form that validates a users info, address, phone, etc. I want to have the form submit the data only if all of the fields are valid, but haven't had any luck. Right now the fields are able to validate but the form submits the data to the text file regardless of whether the fields are valid or invalid.
Here is my code Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load End Sub [Code] .....
How to create an if then statement to only submit the form when the data is valid. I was thinking I might have to set up a separate function but I'm not sure how to set it up really.
I have a dataset with 3 tables in it. Header, Detail and Customer. My form contains a Binding Navigator and I can click the "New" button, fill in the data and then when I press "Save" the data is written to my 3 tables BUT, the foreign key fields in the child tables contain NULL Values. The primary field in the Parent Table retains the correct data. So when I try to go back into the database the Parent record is displayed but no Child data because those records couldn't be linked in.
Once I am back in viewing the Parent record and then input data in those fields belonging to the child tables and press "SAVE" then the new records are saved just fine. It only seems to be when trying to create a new Parent record with Child records.
I am using VS2008 and SQLite. I have created a database and several tables and am attempting to populate the tables with data from arrays.
The following code (example) works fine but stops after it inserts 30 to 50 records. I am running the VB code in debug mode and when it stops, I press pause to see where it is. It stops on "SQLcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()" and when I press continue (F5) it will insert another 30 to 50 records.
I do not get an error message. Is this a timeout issue? How do I keep the loop running to the end of the array?
I have one table here with a list of UserIDs, Users, and ClientCodes. Each user can be assigned a client code to view that client's data elsewhere. Right now I have to change it for everyone via SQL Server and actually going into the table manually, but I'm trying to make a simple little program that will let the user change it themselves. All I need is a textbox that pulls the user based on a certain UserID from the table, and a drop down list that will not only show the current ClientCode they're set to, but allow me to change it and save that change to the table in the database.
What's the best way to go about this? I tried using the wizards but I guess that's not the best way to go about it. I have it displaying the correct user and their current ClientCode but that's about it.
I'm currently pulling HTML data from a database and displaying it in a WebBrowser control in my VB.Net application so that it's correctly rendered. The next step is to print it, but I need to be able to send it to a specific printer rather than the default printer. How can I accomplish this?
I have to read in certain fields from one XML file and compare that to another similar XML file to see if something changed. Is it an API, or a method?

I have a table which contains a list of products for a company. They input data about how much stock they have and also the level at which they want to be reminded that they need to order new stock.

I want to list all the true results in a form which the user is then able to navigate through. What would be the best way to go about doing this?
I'm creating a simple forms application where users can enter their details and save the information to a .ini file because I needed this for a simple game profile. I've tried to make it write "Name =" + txtname.Text but it won't work anymore. And as well as that, I don't think It will load the text back from the ini file.
Here's the code I used; Public Class Form1 Dim hFile As Long Dim sFilename As String Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load [Code] .....
Form designer: [URL] Form1.resk: [URL] Form1.vb: [URL]
I need to read a value (and possibly adjust the value) in HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall key on both 32 and 64 bit systems.I've tried accessing 'stuff' by compiling my widget as both a 32 and 64 bit app, but nothing is working. Then I came across some information indicating that this could be done from a 32 bit applicaiton using KEY_WOW64_64KEY [URL] somehow, but I can't figure it out.
1) Check the existing value of HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall{ProductGUID}DisplayVersion handling both architectures.
2) If the value <> "" And <> Our Current Version Then
3) Write the Current Version to the value mentioned in step 1.
I wouldn't think this is that difficult as I've worked with registry before, but the 64 bit stuff is throwing me for a loop.It would be nice if I could compile my app to target AnyCPU then detect where its running on 32 or 64 bit. The app could then look and update in the appropriate location.I currently am set to use .NET 2.0, but could go to 4.0 if there is something in there that makes the above tasks easier.
I have a tab spaced txt file that looks somthing like this;
[Code]...
I'd like to be able to read in the file and have a pop up message ask somthing like this; "Is cash1 for comp1 correct?" If yes ask about the 2nd line and if not ask what the real cash total is and then over write that to the file, then ask about the 2nd line.
i am working on a Yahtzee projeect for college and am struggling with reading and writing to a csv file the code i have to read the file works but only gets the first column and displays it on a line not as a list.
Private Sub HighScoreFrm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
[Code]....
the other criteria i have to work towards and wondering if anyone can help is to limit the amount of records to 10 so need to check what the lowest score is and if the current score is higher over write it,
i want my form to read a textfile and make it like line 1 will put in textbox1.text and line 2 will put it in like textbox2.text and like when the app closes it writes textbox1.text to line 1 and textbox2.text to line 2 in the .cfg file
i found acouple codes, but i havent found one that worked for what i wanted to do
