Intercept A Print Job?
Jan 31, 2008I wish to intercept print jobs, read who they are from etc, and then only print them, if the program wants to.

View 1 RepliesI want to be able to intercept a print request and then check whether the current user of the computer has enough credit to print. So once the request is intercepted i want to check the total number of pages requested and check against a database how many pages this user is allocated to print, if the total number to print exceeds the number in the database then cancel the print job and notify the user

I play a midi file using this simple win32 api call:
MidiMsg = "open " & c_midiFile & " type sequencer alias mid1 notify"
ret = mciSendString(MidiMsg, "", 0, Form1.Handle)
MidiMsg = "play mid1"
ret = mciSendString("play mid1", "", 0, Form1.Handle)
Callback message MM_MCINOTIFY has a value of &H3B9 (found it using "spy++")I have to know when this message (MM_MCINOTIFY) is fired and read his parameters. In an old version of code I've written years ago in VB6 i had to use CallWindowProc and SetWindowLong win32 api, but now in VS2005 i cannot get it to work.Still I have to try with unmanaged code or are there any other ways to do this in vb .net?
Is there a way to intercept POST data like HTTPAnalyzer?Can I make a call to send the data, see how it's formatted but actually block the connection if I know where it's coming from?
My goal here is to replicate the sending of an email through an SMTP server.
This is not a programming question but a physics one.I was wondering if anyone has a link that good give me the math for two objects: one moving and the other intercepting. Specifically, I need to determine the vectors of the pursuing object when given the vectors of the object he is trying to pursue.This is classic video game programming and in my instance it's supposed to be a football player running with the ball being chased by a tackler.The code I have now determines where the tackler should go at one particular instant, but does not project where he should be in order to lead the target.What happens is the tackler runs behind the ball carrier - he doesn't cut him off.It's like if a QB throws the ball to where his receiver is instead of in front of him; when the ball arrives the receiver is long gone.
View 2 RepliesI am looking for a way to possibly intercept the point that a file is being accessed on a network share. Specifically before it is determined whether the user has access to the file or not.The goal will be to grant access to that file if the file request is coming from a specific process and that user currently does not have access.
View 1 RepliesI am learning Visual Basic 2008. I have created a form with a datagridview bound to a dataset. I also added a button to the datagridview. When the button is clicked I want to be able to update a couple fields in the grid with new values. How do I intercept the click of that button?

I only need to intercept that message, nothing more.
i've read about hooking (wich is illegal??), but its very difficult, and i do not know the c++ language, but i know vb very well.
When a user clicks on the little red "x" a.k.a. the form close button on the form command bar, what even is activated besides FormClosed()
I know FormClosing() is called, but I cannot really stop the form from closing after my code is run. I want to be able to show a messagebox that asks if the user wants to exit the form or not. Obviously if they click no, I want the form to stay open, how would I do this?
This may seem complicated but it's a somewhat basic concept, just probably a complicated execution, I am trying to create a program that will allow you to basically "IM" between computers on a LAN network. That's the concept, I plan on doing this by generating .bat files, executing them and printing the last few messages sent in a label, the big problem I have is receiving messages, I have no idea whatsoever how to even go about finding out how to take the messages received from the messenger service and print them into the label, any ideas?EDIT: This is in VB.Net 2008
View 5 RepliesFor my webbrowser application I would like to have a separate form to display online pdf files.Does anyone know how I would check to see if a clicked page link points to a pdf file and if so open form3 and load the file into the pdf reader component (pdfread) without causing the webbrowser to navigate to the link, this always seems to open the pdf file in a new instance of internet explorer.
I realise that to load the file into the pdf reader the code would be
pdfread.loadfile(whatever file)Hope I've explained this properly.
Not an "ad" popup, but a prompt or a "yes/no" question.
View 5 RepliesI've adapted the code from this link to use the WinXP on-screen keyboard (osk) for a touch-screen application written in VB.NET v3.5. The osk fills the bottom half of screen etc. and behaves fine except for one little quirk. If the user clicks or taps anywhere on the 'background' area behind/between the virtual keys (within the main osk window), the color of the area changes to that of the keys when any further key subsequently gets focus. The outline of all keys is then lost because they are visually merged into the osk window background. The osk must then be terminated and re-launched to remove the confusing appearance.
This behaviour only occurs when the osk window is set to the child style (i.e. when the menu is hidden), using the SetWindowLong P/Invoke function - e.g.
SetWindowLong(OskProcess.MainWindowHandle, GWL_STYLE, WS_CHILD)
It's as if the entire area behind the keys is being treated as another key when tapped/clicked, whereupon its color is 'restored' after losing focus.Is there any way to intercept and somehow override the focus event of this osk background area?
Is it possible to make a program intercept and stop certain write requests? I need it to stop viruses from tampering with an antivirus database. If you can, how do you do it? If not, is there another way to stop viruses from changing the database?

I'm wondering if it's possible to create a listener type application that would monitor webaddresses that the user attempts to go to. And can then either block or redirect the browser to another website. Purpose: I know this seems to sound a little weird but what I'm attempting to do is a NetNanny type application that can run on the user's PC and the allow, prevent, rewrite (would look for particular keywords and rewrite them "words I wouldn't want my 7yr old seeing or reading), or redirect to other webpages. I would also like to be able to handle both IE and Firefox browser with this one application.

I am trying to make a program that when run changes the <title> attribute of the HTML, on any page requested then loads the page (IE). Is this possible, without making a new browser? If so, how?

I have been able to do the exercise's in the first 2 chapters and half the exercise's in the third chapter of the text book (programming in visual basic 2008, Julia Case Bradley & Anita C. Millspaugh). but this one is making my head want to explode. please point me in the right direction with this.
Heres the problem. The company has instituted a bonus program to give its employees an incentive to sell more. For every dollar the store makes in a four-week period, the employees receive 2 percent of sales. The amount of bonus each employee receives is based upon the percentage of hours he or she worked during the bonus period (a total of 160 hours). The Calculate button will determine the bonus earned by this employee, and the Clear button will clear only the name, hours-worked, and bonus amount fields. A Print button allows the user to print the form. Do not allow missing or bad input data to cancel the program; instead display a message to the user.
Here's my code so far. its giving me the wrong results. i have tried many different ways,(hence the commented code) but I just dont know where im going wrong.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone knows how to do these from a simple text box. i.e. 'TextBox1'.
I'm just learning VB and it's only a simple text editor but I can't find any good sites or posts that help me in understanding how to do it. These are not really covered in any of the 'beginner' books I have acquired either.
My instructor told us how to print documents and how to use databases. What the instructor did not mention is how to print or print a preview of records within a DatabaseDataSet. The book "Programming in Visual Basic 2010" does not explain how to print or do a print preview of Database Source records from within a form. The only thing I was told was to test the print document first before you try to do a print preview. Within a form I used a DataGridView to add, delete, and update the database. So now all I need to do is figure out how to print the updated records from the DataGridView and how to print a preview of the records within the DataGridView. So I hope my question is clear enough to give me assistance on how I can perform these two actions. Thanks this would be a great help, and since the class is online we can get assistance from any sources that we have.
