I would like to know if its possible, and if so how, to use VB.NET to automate a keyboard shortcut. In the application i am developing, it receives email as a outlook addin and runs various checks and if those checks are positive it inserts information about the message into the database. But i want to be able to tell it that when the subject = "Keyword" to perform Ctrl+Alt+Up for, essentially a prank. However - I can't find anything on this anywhere, all i find is "Custom Short-cuts In VB.NET" and stuff about the KeyDown, KeyUp and KeyPress events.
View 1 RepliesHow could I create a keyboard shortcuts to call some of the functions on my form? For example, I have a media player that opens media files:
Private Sub Button_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button.Click
OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog()

I have a project, in which a user can click a button- even if he's using different program- that button in the program will simulate a keyboard shortcut and and use it in that current program he's using.

In VB Classic, VBA and also in Visual Studio you can dbl click close to the left hand margin of a block of code and it will select the whole of the current block (sub, function etc). In Visual Studio this clickable area is adjacent to the line numbers on the left.Is there a keyboard shortcut that will do the same job? that is, select the "current block".

In my app, I have an option to install another app (that I don't have any control over).
Once this second app is installed, I want to be able to remove the Start Menu items that it creates - how easy would this be to do?
I know the names of the menu items.
I'm running into this one very specific issue:
- I have a VB.Net 2005 Project for which I've created a Setup Project.
- In my Setup Project, I've added a shortcut on my Start Menu, that points to my Application.
- After deploying it, all works great.
- One of my users chooses to *copy* the shortcut from the Start Menu into their Desktop.
- I then create an upgrade for this Application. Again, the deployment works great. They can start my application from the Start menu.
- They double-click on their icon in the Desktop and they get a popup: Title of the message box: Problem with Shortcut Description of the message box: (X) The parameter is incorrect.
The shortcut's Target, is blank ( which I believe is the problem ).I'd love to be able to specify an actual [TARGETDIR]myApp.exe type of string as the shortcut's target in my Setup Project, but I can't do this.Instead I have to point it via UI, to my Target Application ( which I'm assuming is resolved at install-time ). The problem with this is that it appears that the shortcuts get re-evaluated every time you re-install / upgrade the application. Since my previous version is technically not installed anymore, my shortcut gets invalidaded, even though the target path is still the same and I haven't changed my executable's file name.
I want to make a keyboard shortcut for "Save" How would I do it?
View 5 RepliesI wanted to give my user an option for "Start with Windows". When user check this option it will place a shortcut icon into Startup folder (not in registry). On Windows restart, it will load my app automatically.
View 1 RepliesI need to start and then minimise/normalise an instance of On Screen Keyboard from my app:
PID = Shell("explorer C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe",AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
seems to launch it okay but how can I then "find" it and minimise/normalise its window?Also, would it be better if I launched it differently? I've tried missing out the 'explorer':
PID = Shell("C:WindowsSystem32osk.exe", AppWinStyle.NormalFocus)
but this says "file not found"...
when I publish my app and run the setiup it places the shortcut under a folder in the start menu called Microsoft
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to create a custom start menu shortcut link?
The only possibilities I see in the setup project are shortcuts to folders or primary output.
Update:
What I ended up doing is creating a custom action on commit that dynamically creates the link using Windows Scripting Host. Then on uninstall, removing the link.
I know it's simple to do in C#, but what is the command to jump between If/End If marks in VB.Net like you can jump between braces in C#?
(C#-version of this Question: Go to Matching Brace in Visual Studio?)
I cannot find a way to make a program that I write make a shortcut in the start menu for all users.My final goal is to make an MSI and deploy it in group policy to all users on a computers OU. Is this possible?
View 5 RepliesI'm trying to extract the icon from a shortcut (lnk file), but I end up with the shortcut symbol in the lower-left hand corner of the image. How can I extract a shortcut's icon without this symbol?
Here's the code I'm using:
Dim ico As System.Drawing.Icon = System.Drawing.Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon("C:shortcut.lnk")
I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?
View 2 RepliesI have created a virtual keyboard like the "Windows onscreen keyboard". So, I have used the method sendkeys.But if I click on the button, it doesn't write nothing.
I think I have a problem with the FOCUS.As you can see, the "Windows onscreen keyboard" is always on top.This doesn't happen to my form. How can I do?
I have custom asynchronous WebRequest class that I am testing to find out how fast the request will be cancelled and found some odd results, that starting 6 WebRequests with TPL and cancelling them right away takes 25 sec, but when I used just regular background threads it took only 5 sec.
Update: Running them without cancelling takes with Task.Start 9 sec and Thread.Start 3 sec accordingly.

I'm using Process.Start to start an external command line application and using the StartInfo.Arguments method to send parameters to the application. I imagine I'll need to use a loop... but I can't figure out exactly how yet.I need to send anywhere from 1 - an infinite number of files names to this application. Each file has to be sent one after the other. So once the first one is done, I need to loop back around and past the second one.I can probably use the Directory.GetFiles method to get all of the files, but I don't know how to assign them.

Is there a way to do this? I have been using Process.Start.

I've commented out various things to limit it to specifically this command (example, I can swap mklink out with notepad and it works fine). The command runs fine from a DOS window, but can't be found when I use it this way. I also tried using the SHELL command just to test and I get the same results. No idea why it can't be found, as like I said it executes from the command prompt just fine.
